I tried to trick you by saying child star, but it didn't work.:D

sinton66
04-14-2004, 10:55 PM
Heh heh, I used to know quite a bit about JMV. Airwolf was my son's favorite show. Anywhere we were, he'd pitch a fit if he had to miss it.

Sans Couth
04-14-2004, 10:56 PM
Ok here is one that somebody will know, but would be hard to find doing plain research.

What was the name of the place where Frank Zappa "stole the margarine" in one of his songs.

sinton66
04-14-2004, 11:05 PM
Hint on which album? Phi Zappa Crappa, maybe?

Sans Couth
04-14-2004, 11:13 PM
This will make it easy to research, but since you asked. The album was called ( ' ):D

sinton66
04-14-2004, 11:15 PM
I used to listen to a lot of FZ in the old days, but don't remember anything about margarine. Of course if it wasn't at least twenty years ago, I wouldn't know of it.:D

Sans Couth
04-14-2004, 11:18 PM
OK here is another hint.

It is the song right before the song that starts with this verse.

The mystery man came over
And he said "I'm outta sight!"
He said for a nominal service charge
I could reach nirvana tonight
If I was ready, willing and able
To pay him his regular fee
He would drop all the rest of
His pressing affairs and devote
His attention to me.

sinton66
04-14-2004, 11:37 PM
You're right, that did make it too easy. I'll let somebody else try to answer.:D

Old Green
04-16-2004, 07:09 PM
Thought of another. Cincinatti bengals

sinton66
04-16-2004, 07:13 PM
Cincinnati was an expansion team, not one of the original eight. The original eight would have dated back to the years 1960-1962. The AFL grew to ten teams before the merger. Paul Brown was awarded the Cincinnati franchise and the Bengals began play in 1968.

Old Green
04-16-2004, 08:41 PM

SEAL-Kiss From a Rose

sinton66
04-18-2004, 08:34 AM

sinton66
04-18-2004, 08:55 AM
Sticking with the entertainment industry. What movie sold the most tickets to the theaters, and thus became the most seen top-film of all time?

3afan2K3
04-18-2004, 09:18 AM
Titanic

sinton66
04-18-2004, 09:21 AM
no, not Titanic.

Sans Couth
04-18-2004, 09:39 AM
Star Wars?

sinton66
04-18-2004, 09:43 AM
no, not Star Wars.

Sans Couth
04-18-2004, 09:46 AM

04-18-2004, 09:47 AM

Old Tiger
04-18-2004, 10:17 AM
The Passion?

Sans Couth
04-18-2004, 10:54 AM
Lord of the Rings?

sinton66
04-18-2004, 12:19 PM
no, none of those either. Not really a trick, the question simply asks which movie sold the most tickets ever?(One and only hint, nothing was said concerning the price paid for the tickets.) The Passion is still quite new, and as such, might have a chance to unseat the champ.

3afan2K3
04-18-2004, 12:25 PM
E.T.

sinton66
04-18-2004, 12:37 PM
no, not E.T. I'll give the answer at 1:00 pm if no one answers correctly.

3afan2K3
04-18-2004, 12:45 PM
Gone with the wind

sinton66
04-18-2004, 12:55 PM
That is correct.

Titanic has the record for the highest grossing film ever at $601 million.
Star Wars weighs in at $461 million.
The Phantom Menace did $431 million.
E.T. grossed $400 million.
Jurassic Park grossed $330 million.

If all of the tickets sold to see Gone with the Wind were adjusted for inflation and sold at today's prices, GWTW would have grossed $1.2 BILLION.

Titanic has the record for the highest grossing film ever at $601 million.
Star Wars weighs in at $461 million.
The Phantom Menace did $431 million.
E.T. grossed $400 million.
Jurassic Park grossed $330 million.

If all of the tickets sold to see Gone with the Wind were adjusted for inflation and sold at today's prices, GWTW would have grossed $1.2 BILLION. dang 1.2 billion is a crap load of money for a movie

sinton66
04-18-2004, 01:27 PM
It is truly remarkable when you consider GWTW entered the scene in 1939 and had its run during the years of the great depression following the 1939 stock market crash. Of course, the price of the tickets back then was something like a nickel, maybe a quarter. Figuring today's average of $8.00 per ticket, GWTW sold over twice as many tickets as Titanic. (Then too, there weren't that many pleasant distractions during the great depression, so GWTW didn't have much competition.)

In the movie "The color of money"

What now famous actor kept getting beat at nine ball in the first scene with Tom Cruise?

3afan2K3
04-18-2004, 04:43 PM
Paul Newman

Sans Couth
04-18-2004, 04:53 PM
Nope!

For you information, Paul Newman was famous before Tom Cruise was born.

sinton66
04-18-2004, 05:39 PM
Are you talking about the scenes where Newman notices Cruise for the first time? If so, I can see the guy's face but can't think of his name. He's done a LOT of bit parts, but I don't think he's been a feature actor in any that I remember. So, we may or may not be thinking of the same guy.

I was thinking the same thing. I never noticed him before until the other night watching that movie.

John Tortilla or something like that

Sans Couth
04-18-2004, 05:48 PM
Yes,

It is the guy who keeps asking Paul Newman to borrow another 20 bucks, because Tom Cruises character Vinnie, is smoking him. It is the scene right before Paul Newman meets Vinnie. And this actor is getting pretty famous. He has been in several BIG hits.

I will give hints if nobody gets in in 30 minutes.

I had to do about an hour of research to find it, so go ahead Crzy.

Besides Ariel, The Tempest was also the source for two other moons of Uranus, Caliban and Sycorax(the two newest discoveries).

First words:

"That's one small step for [a] man; one giant leap for mankind."

Neil A. Armstrong

Last words:

"OK, let's get this mother out of here."

Eugene Cernan

sinton66
04-21-2004, 07:33 PM
The last words spoken from the surface by Cernan was "Godspeed the crew of Apollo 17". The first words by Neil Armstrong were as Sans Couth posted.

In fact, the entire speech by Cernan was:

"This is Gene and I'm on the surface and as I take man's last step from the surface, back home for some time to come - but we believe not too long into the future - I'd like to just say what I believe history will record. That America's challenge of today has forged man's destiny of tomorrow, and as we leave the Moon at Taurus-Littrow, we leave as we came and god willing as we shall return, with peace and hope for all mankind. Godspeed the crew of Apollo 17."
