Well he plays the "Man with no Name" but Lee Van Cleef sometimes calls him "Manco".

sinton66

No, that's not correct. Close, but no cigar. This is indeed the second of the Sergio Leone trilogy featuring the "Man with no name", but his name is mentioned in the beginning of the movie. In reality, "The Man with no Name" was a marketing invention of United Artists after the fact. Even his character in "A Fistful Of Dollars" actually had a name.

Sans Couth, when I said close, I meant real close.

Sans Couth

I have watched it many times. Maybe you would prefer I spelled it Monco instead of Manco. Or maybe Mancho, or Moncho. Lee Van Cleef is kinda hard to understand when they are dubbing in over the Italian.:D

sinton66
07-05-2004, 05:40 PM
It is indeed spelled "Monco" and pronounced that way too. You are correct, your turn, but , do you know what his name was in "A Fistful of Dollars"?

I believe it was "Joe" in a fistfull of dollars, and he was only called "Blondie" in the good the bad and the ugly.

I would like to defer to Ranger Mom, I am on my way to the weight room.:D

Was it My Three Sons? Fred McMurray was single a long time even though he did get married to Beverly Garland the last few years of the series. Beverly's former husband played one of the Ferris sons in Dawn at Socorro. :)

Hey Phil,

Another excellent guess. I wonder which one it will be?

PhiI C

Hey Big you could have answered some of my questions if you had watched Dawn at Socorro on TCM that I advertised a long time plus if you had watched ESPN recently you would have known the answer to my last question.

Sans Couth

And it seems like the dad on "Flipper" was single too.

Two more guesses.

Phil C
07-06-2004, 04:05 PM
Thank you Sans. I also knew they were in the Poker Hall of Fame but I didn't think you intended for us to be that specific. Anyway I will make this one an easy one. The movie Hoosiers was based on a real life hs state basketball championship game in which a small school defeated a big school in Indiana in 1954. The big school was Muncie. What was the name of the small school?

Ranger Mom
07-06-2004, 05:36 PM
Hickory High School?

PhiI C

Good Guess Ranger Mom but the questions asks for the real name not the reel name! :)

sinton66
07-06-2004, 08:48 PM
The real team the movie is based on is the Milan Indians.

PhiI C
07-06-2004, 09:30 PM
That is right Sinton 66. Milam was the the last if not the only small school Indiana team to win the state championship. All schools participated in one classification whether larger or small. They had the semis earlier on the same day as the state championship. Milam played a slow game to beat Muncie by two points. Unlike the movie which made it look like a big upset it was not the big upset at the time because the year before Milam had made it to the semis before even though no one really expected them to win but it was not the big surprise as the movie made it out. Your question 66.

PhiI C
07-09-2004, 08:13 PM
two - straight flush and four of a kind

PhiI C
07-09-2004, 08:24 PM
Of course I was only considering straight 52 deck draw poker or stud poker. If the jokers were wild then potentially there would be three hands that would beat the full house which would mean one could have five of a kind which would be the top hand.

Sans Couth
07-09-2004, 08:26 PM
Phil you are correct either way. But a real poker player would never use wild cards, so I accept your FIRST answer:D

PhiI C
07-09-2004, 08:30 PM
I agree with you completely on the wild card statement Sans. Let me think for a minute on a question.

PhiI C
07-09-2004, 08:40 PM
Since we are on poker I will ask a related question. The game is draw poker and the bets are complete and only two players are left. Player A has a full house of three queens and two nines. Player B has four sixes and a three. Player A puts down his cards and says full house. Player B puts down his hand and says two pair. Player B starts to rake in the pot but Player A says that he wins because B said he had two pair and since that was announced that is what it is and a full house beats two pair. Player B insists the pot is his. Who is right and why?

BIG BLUE DEFENSIVE END
07-09-2004, 08:44 PM
Because Player B is right because in reality, it is me, and I am never wrong. :D

CHS_Grad '85
07-12-2004, 09:52 AM
I would have to guess that Player A is the winner... if Player B had just turned his cards over & said nothing (or at least called four of a kind) he would have won... but he called 2 pairs... full house wins... as a novice - I had made the same mistake at a poker game 'once' - trust me... Player A wins....

Phil C
07-12-2004, 11:04 AM
This question seems to have been a stumpper which surprised me so I will ask another question after I give you the answer to this one. The answer is that Player B wins. Big was right here but he didn't give the correct reason. I have got my answer from a professional gambler. It doesn't matter what a player announces - THE CARDS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES and there were four sixes which is four of a kind which beats a full house. Remember in poker there is also bluffing. A player could put the cards down and say I have five aces but if you look at the cards and there is only one ace then that is what he has no matter what he says. Remember in poker unless there are local house rules that ALL players have agreed to before play then the CARDS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.
Now for another question on football history. A High Schhol football coach was once hung in effigy during the two years his team won the state championship. Name the coach.

Sans Couth
07-12-2004, 09:08 PM
Joe Golding of Wichita Falls?

PhiI C
07-12-2004, 11:08 PM
That is right Sans. He coached Wichita Falls to the State Championship in 1949. The next year he had four key players hurt and they missed the first four games which the Witchita Falls Coyotes lost. The people were so upset that the coach was hung in effigy. After the first four games the injured players recovered and Wichita Falls won the rest of their games including state. Golding was there for 15 years and they reached the state championship six times and won four of them. It got where if the Coyotes didn't at least reaach the quarterfinals it was considered tragic. His last team in 1961 won it all and then he retired. Ironically the effigy hangers didn't pool their recourses to buy him a cadillac at his retirement. Your turn Sans!

Sans Couth
07-13-2004, 12:20 AM

This requires a little history and involves all classes but name the one hs team and year that won a state championship in football that was the least favored to win. Remember you must name the team and year. Remember if you picked all the playoff teams and picked the least one likely to even advance past the first round much less win it all this team would have been it.

No. Remember this team was not even supposed to win their district. They lost several games including district games but fortunately for them the teams that beat them lost enough games and they won enough to just barely get into the playoffs. Then they were underdogs in every playoff game. When they made the final 8 they would have been chosen the least likely team to win state. But they did.
