Yeah, that was a hit. He still laughs about it, I'm sure. He shook it off and played a heck of a game after that too! He's usually the one putting hits like that all night. Carthage will get some of that too! Their RB will get hit harder than he has all year. ;)

Honestly, we don't know what our weakness is yet. Hasn't been exposed. Not chest thumping, but us homers try to figure it out and just can't. I guess our schedule would be the only real weakness...but our boys haven't played down to competition yet. They have pretty much dominated every team.

That's cool. This is my opinion of the 2010 Dawgs. After those 2 losses I thought we were in serious trouble. The team didn't appear to have the talent needed to compete in the playoffs. They had no speed on defense to the corners to stop the run outside. But after those 2 losses and some great coaches they seemed to get faster. I know that's impossible so they must have started re-acting faster. But remember we had 2 losses around the same time in 2008 and one of those was even to the same team (Nacogdoches). Since then and every year from 2008 until now. Our guys seemingly get better and better every game. The only exception being last year against Graham. I still think we should have won that game by 20 but Graham played beyond themselves or something. I didn't think we would win state last year or this year. I was wrong last year and I hope I am this year!

Shipley is the best athlete, but there are a slew of very athletic players!

FOOTBALL......FOOTBALL......What are you thinking?

Brownwood is a team that does not take what the defense offers. They take what they want, and have not been denied to date. We have debated D-lines and O-lines for 14 games, good or bad, didn't make a difference, we are 14-0. Brownwood Offense is potent and lethal, recognize that! The Defense is average with burst of brilliance. 45 TO's to date, does what it need to do when called upon. Yes the D does yield a few points but averages about 40 minutes of playing time a game, more than good offenses.

In order to stop the Lion offense you are gonna have to gamble (and you know the odds are against you in gambling) on stopping 3-4 receivers every down, plug the holes to stop the running game, and score every time you get the ball, easy said!

Kudos to Carthage for mauling Argyle, but like someone said, this is not Argyle. They were a good team, but would not have slowed the Lions. We have not seen a glaring weakness from this group of teenagers, and I dont expect to see one this week either. Yes, we know the Bullpups are for real, and we will deal with whatever you bring. Should you win the battle of the ages, you will have stopped one of the most prolific offensive weapons of this young cetury, and you will have my respect! Just dont see it happening!

Just watched some more highlights of the Argyle/Carthage game on Ch.8 and the DB's looked to be beat a few times against Argyle! Brown will expose this all night. Shipley, Chastain, Ellis, McShan, Ratliff, Johnson and Perez will have a field day. The O-line for Carthage looks to be good sized as expected. Showed to block well. Nothing out of the ordinary. Brownwood has seen sevaral very similar and even better so far this season. Monahans, Borger, Iwoa Park had O-line's very similar and Stephenville's was bigger.

Carthage is goin to be really good and the anticipated toughest opponent so far. From what I have seen and anaylized, I like what I see!;)

What is the LB's name that plays for Carthage? I talked to someone from Gilmer the other day and he said he is good, real good!

Monahans had a LB that was real good, 6'2" 215 lb's and was a hard hitting hoss. Not so much on BW, but had several good tackles. Awesome TE as well, should be All-State! But he was running around like a chicken with it's head cut off trying to catch the BW receivers! lol

Still 48-24 BW. Carthage will likely get 7 on their first drive and another 7 on their 3 drive early in he first half. Then a late TD and FG in the 4th. It's likely to be 28-14 at the half. We shall see.

If there is a team not named Denton Ryan that can stop Brownwood its Carthage (at least in 3A)....Carthage has the athletes, the players up front and discipline to make life difficult for Brownwood...

Carthage I imagine will try and put Pope on Shipley to see if he can slow him down some...Pope's long, lean and athletic and is the kind of kid who I think stay with Jaxon...he'll play big time college football...

What a game this is going to be. Every state champion faces adversity some where along the road. Brownwood will face it this week but come out on top. Both defenses can take away a few things both offenses like to do. I think it comes down to who can adjust to what is being taken away by the other defense. Carthage can mash with the best of them. Brownwood can when they need to. I think in the end, Brownwood will be able to beat the safety a couple of times on a deep route and win this game by a hair. No matter what though, this game is gonna be worth the price of admission!

First off, WE are a darn fast team...yeah I said it....you will see.
Secoond, many of our starters are current 2-year letterman, that played in the real district of doom 3 years ago. '08 Waco, Midway and Cove were ALL bigger and faster than Carthage.
Third, Shipley was in the same district as Southlake before coming to BWD...I'm sure he knows how to gameplan for speed.....plus Jaxon was newcomer of the Year in that District as a Soph.
Fourth, Merket, our OC, dealt with and BEAT real speed from 3 LaMarque state finalists on his was to earning 4 SCs in the process.

Stephenville was and still will be the best team Brownwood has faced. ;) Bigger, stronger, just as fast. Better QB and RB's. Defense, way better than Carthage's.

All you folks who are not from Brownwood, especially the ones from teams we have already faced this year, who are in here supporting Brownwood, Thank You!

I am really impressed by your sportsmanship and it's a really classy move to throw your support in with us. I honestly can't say I'd do the same thing and that makes it more impressive to me. Brownwood as a whole appreciates you throwing in with us and I know the other guys on here do too even if they're not saying it.

I think these West Texas Football fans are tired of hearing these East Texas "High and Mighties" spout their trash. This game coming up will let them know where they stand in the scheme of things for 2010.

Not me---the only reasons Brownwood beat the Bulls was because of the refs, we were missing half of our offense and defensive units (that was actually pretty true on defense :D), all of our players were tired from the trip, G2 sat on our side, we got nobody born in East Texas, and Rocket put 29 pages of bulletin board material up in the Lions lockerroom. :D

Seriously folks--I don't know if there is a defense in 3A, and maybe a lot of 4A, that could hold the Lions to less than 30-40 points. If there is a 3A defense that could possibly do it, my bet would be on Carthage because of their athleticism, speed, and size. Should be a rare treat for us all come Friday night. I'm really looking forward to this game. Like I said in an earlier post, I think this will be a repeat of Trinity-Coppell last week.

The X-Factor is our OC...he equalizes all defenses evenly. And he has 4 Rings in 4A. :D

I tend to agree TXB....there are always a few in every bunch, but the TRUE Carthage posters have been pretty cool....except for one.

As for the bandwagoners....like the one from Tatum (that has been extremely quiet for some reason:thinking: ), that henderson kid (88) and of course the Gainesville Legend Keith7, those guys are giving the ET stereotypes a lot of credibility.

I see it being 28 - 14 at half, Brownwood tends to be great at making the needed defensive adjustment during the halftime a$$ Chewing. I see alot more of the run game at second half to chew the clock down, bwood will score two more TD's and hold carthage to no more than one td. just saying though.

Funny thing, we pulled into Grandy's and when we were walking up, I mentioned to my husband that I didn't realize that Grandy's had a play court. All the sudden I realized, we were at Burger King.
The way that road runs is confusing....we had to go around Burger King and Grandy's was catty cornered from it. We felt stupid!!
