IN the for what it is worth department, they have stepped up. They were inconsistent for a while but have played well down the stretch. I think we can win this one. But whoever wins will have to play extremely well with little or no miscues.

I didn't know Bridgeport was the only team to score a TD in the second quarter on us in this year playoffs. That's impressive. FOUR shutouts in the second half is really impressive also. I was surprised to see that Celina's QB has that many rushing yards too, that'll be something to keep an eye on. Their offensive breakdown is a little biased I think, they never even mentioned that Celina has 2 beasts in their backfield as well.

Celina has been looking better the past 6-7 weeks, that is true. But it is against cupcakes, LH proved early, and proved again last week we can win the tough ones against great opponents this year. So far Celina hasn't done that in 2008.

Yes rita that would be true. Charley had some issues and is just now rounding out into shape. I don't know for sure how good he is but he looked better last week. Charley at 90 percent is a darn good back. And Troy is just great. Last week was offensive player of the week at the DMN. 176 yards rushing 5 td's 3 running 1 catching and 1 throwing.

Not a bad breakdown? "Quarterback" and "Other Offense" for these two offenses.

I guess they did not want to take the time to discuss the Line, Wideouts, Tight Ends, or Backfield (other than QB) in depth.

It is great that they at least did what they did because the DMN had a report on the Prosper Eagles today. But hey, they are playing for state Saturday. Go 9-AAA.

They did not want to post anything that the LH faithful would have to worry about so they did not mention anything about our two running backs. Only about the QB and two WR's after LH stopped BP in the second half of last weeks game. Keeps that fresh in the minds of the faithful and their spirits high for the peprally tomorrow. It would be kinda a downer if no one cheered at their peprally tomorrow

Agree wholeheartedly. TV will send a crew and show 5-8 plays from 5A and then 2-3 from 3A. It is still close. DMN has two pages (or more) for 5A and then 1 page for 3A and below, in mid season. Now it is a paragraph or two for all, some stats and move on.

Troy McCartney, Celina
What he did: McCartney rushed for three touchdowns, threw a touchdown pass and had a touchdown catch in a 52-21 playoff win over Texarkana Pleasant Grove.

Troy McCartney The stats: McCartney rushed 15 times for 172 yards and scored on runs of 23, 15 and 30 yards. He was 1-for-2 passing for 27 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 20 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown.

Who is he? A 5-10, 190-pound senior running back

He said it: "I've always been put in positions where, just wherever I'm needed, I can go."

Coach said it: "He's a very special player. I think he understands how much we need him to be good. He gets excited about playing. He does a great job throwing, catching and running. He can do it all." – Butch Ford.

Did you know? McCartney, a three-year starter, also handles the punting duties for Celina. ... He's thrown three touchdown passes this season. ... McCartney plays shortstop on the baseball team. ... McCartney's favorite movie is 61* about Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle. ... His favorite class is Spanish III. "I feel like it's going to open up more opportunities for me," said McCartney, who wants to major in business in college.

On Max Preps if you look at their analysis, there is but a couplple points sepperate the two on ratings. On strenght of schedule it equates to Celina.

Liberty Hill is just below Muleshoe who squeeked by Pilot Point.

It shows also LH gets a lead in the first and it trickles downward to nothing much in the 4th Quarter.

But it only shows one fumble all year, now I know thats wrong..lol since you average putting it on the ground 3 times a game.

Should prove very interesting to see how many times you put it on the ground when you truly get hit. Was three last trip:)

I gotta analyze till Saturday.

Celina did lose three games to very worthy opponents this year. But we also beat 8 teams with winning records this year something LH has only done to 5 teams it appears. But granted I could be wrong.

But if I am, I got one more. Celina has not lost to a team with a losing record this year and we have a won 3 games against those teams that do have a losing record. BUT, the PPE Panthers have diluted their record this year with SIX, mind you SIX, wins against teams that do have a losing record this year. To push this just a little farther, the PPE Panthers have "beaten" (or do you prefer "eaten") THREE additional teams with 5-5 records this year.

Just for the record I think we should list LH's record this year as 5-6-3. No, scratch that Panther fans, that looks too much like ice football. Just go back to the point up above.

If we do lose(which I don't think we will) and things work out, we may end up haing lost to 3 state champs this year... to put things in perspective

That means we played a quality schedule...how many potential 2008 state championship teams have y'all played...since some of you like to talk...strength of schedule so much?

Just as I suspected. All talk.

To be the best, as they say, you gotta play the best.

LH's opponents records this year, from week one to now if you round is 5-5. While Celina's opponents during the same time period is 7-4. And that does not take into account a 12-1 BP team that we scrimmaged and beat 4-2 in pre-season.

Some don't like roundin too much so here they are with only two decimals: (don't go ask the kids just read)
LH 5.36-5.14 Celina 6.79-3.79
Dang, I think that looks even better.

Sorry Tuff, uless you got something to put up here other than opinion, its all talk. ;)

Your numbers mean nothing. The only numbers I really half way believe are the Massey Ratings. Take a look at those. Especially the defensive rankings. Defense does win championships. And since you are into numbers so much, Massey predicts LH 30-28.

Nice. I guess they forgot about that, but, we did...not lose...to some pretty crappy teams. They have to find comfort somewhere.

And one of them is looking on the bright side...atleast 3 out of their 4 losses could come at the hands of a state champ.

Just heard from a friend that LH has made this thread available to Santa Claus along with a letter signed by the whole town saying that "all they want for Christmas is to beat Celina". It is my understanding that Santa Clause said that there were bad boys and girls in bot towns and he would have to make some comparisons to choose his response.

According to my source, a short dude with a pointy green hat and big ears, Santa is leaning toward granting the LH wish because LHPantherMOM has been so quiet and has not become angry on this thread and he knows from listening to her family that she can be a real tornado when riled. He figures she is making up and equalizing the slate for all of the other posters that sometimes gat a little overbearing. By the way, he said that Santa thinks Celina could get their wish in spite of his beliefs, because anyone that lives that clost to Oklahoma is probably in Good standing with devil.

Now were gettin somewhere.

And the average win-loss record of LH opponents for the year is 5-5. If the best offense has a D that cant stop you or the best defense has an O that cant score, the team will stalemate itself.

This is best explained when you look at it this way:

LH beat Brownwood, the #139 ranked defense, 3-7 record.
LH beat Bridgeport, the #40 ranked offense and LH only stopped'em for a half, no D in the first half.
LH beat Sweetwater, the #55 ranked offense, 10-3.
LH beat Wylie, the #31 ranked offense, 11-3.

You know something? Who gives a crap? We BEAT all those teams. It doesn't matter what their record was. It doesn't matter what their offense or defense was ranked or what color their uniforms were or whether or not they ran or passed or mixed it up. Oh, and to save you some time because I know it's coming. We ALMOST lost to Burnet and had some other very close games. But again, we WON.

When schedules are made every 2 years, our coaches get the best teams they can within a reasonable distance. Going into the 2008 season, did you honestly think that Brownwood would end up 3-7? And that's OUR fault? (Okay, one was :D ) And just in case you missed it, let me say it again. WE WON.

If that numbers logic is to be believed, then LH beat all those teams and Celina lost three games. One of those losses was to a 2A team I believe. What you have done this year based only on the numbers is very misleading. It all depends on who you play and when. A winning record for an opponent in one area may not be nearly as impressive as a winning recoed in another.

Let's just accept the fact that both teams this week are playing very well in the playoffs and both have the playoff experience to know what they have to do. Both coaching staffs are top notch. Both have some outstanding athletes and both have the ability to be dominating at times.

I expect this to be a dogfight (or cat fight, since it is panthers and boncats) al night. Neither team has the talent that could be considered far above the other. I bet that there will be plenty of hard hitting and smashmouth running in this game and the team that doesent make turnovers will have the edge.

schedules do not determine champions---celina has proved that

however, LH's schedule has been tougher, at least by my reckoning

not that much tougher if you average them all together, but part of that is slightly lower district rating due to prosper's success Liberty Hill played more upper-level teams

celina played less, and fared worse

of course, celina would have won all of those games if they were playing like they are now

we'll find out soon enough

You are right there. They say a close game and that is what most every Celina poster has been saying. Don't think I've even made a prediction yet. I have thrown out lots of numbers because it is fun to crank out the numbers that support an argument. We know LH will be tough. How many LH t-shirts do you have? Just curious. By the way why is it that those on this board think Region 2 is the weak one? Last time I checked 2 of the remaining 6 teams were from Region 2 and 9 3a is cleary the toughest of them all. Now for LHPM why does the perceived weak schedule argument only apply to Celina year after year? I know you don't give a crap when the shoe is on the other foot. Liberty Hill will be playing the game with 11 players on the field on every play. Celina will be playing with 11 players on the field every play. LH will have about 85 other kids on the sidelines in uniform. Celina will have about 70 other kids on the sidelines in uniform. I guess that if numbers really mean anything, LH wins the game by 15 points since they will have that many more players. Same logic as I've been reading all day.

Hell, maybe Celina will suit up the JH Bobcats and get enough to beat LH.

I guess that if numbers really mean anything, LH wins the game by 15 points since they will have that many more players. Same logic as I've been reading all day.

Hell, maybe Celina will suit up the JH Bobcats and get enough to beat LH.

Since you are answering for him and based on your previous rants to my numbers, YOU don't like reading about the records of your opponents. I did not pick your opponents nor did you. It is what it is! Their records are what they are! Why are you getting so bent out of shape as I plainly stated you beat those teams. If it embarasses you that is what it is, ... go talk with Pick6.

Bobcat, you have now stepped into the realm of being insulting to an individual. I answered a post of what something meant and get blasted by you. Well, based on the logic I've read on this entire thread, it is apparently a case to be forgiven because it is mind over matter---the accuser has no mind so it don't matter.

Nailed it (except for boncats). Great post.

Round 1: Van Alstyne...Ranked 70th...Defense ranked 105th.

Round 3: Kennedale...Ranked 32nd...Defense ranked 136th.

Food for thought. I have seen a lot of numbers bandied about from Massey but I think one has been overlooked.

Kennedale has the number 7 offense while LH has the number 8.

We did stuff Kennedale. Less than 100 yards O against the first team D with 0 points. And Kennedale is very similar in O to LH.

I'm going to try a couple of serious football game questions:
(Honest answers at this stage do not mean that you are pointing out your team's weaknesses or failing to support it in any way.)

1. LH fans: What do you think is Celina's biggest threat to beat you? What are you most concerned about?

2. Celina fans: Same question about LH.

If Celina can play error free for 4 full qtrs. They will make it close. They also must make 1st downs. If they have a couple 3 and outs they will be in trouble. LH is known for clock eating drives.

I think Celina's biggest threat to LH is the QB. He seems to be the one main ingredient on offense that has been healthy all year, and that puts alot of solid expereince in his game management. Since our defense is so quick, I'm afraid the containment may get overlooked at times.

On a side note, I think our QB is who Celina should be most worried about as well....

Come on, if the coaches haven't got so much of a clue that they need to come to this board for information to form their gameplan, then they need to get another job. That's squirrely, yeah I said it. It's a joke. I can't believe any coaches would put 2cents into any bulletin board comments.

I could say ole so and so is hurt or he's magically healed. I could say were running spread this week or putting a 27 look in with a super sarcastically named stunt package. And for the most part you would be correct. But if you could really explain how things work some coaches actually might get a clue. As for this game, who knows. But I have not seen a practice nor will I get to so I can openly claim secret knowledge that nobody else has. I did get there late yesterday. Talked to Kent waldrep for a couple and david. Talked to coach worrell. My kid is in his pe class and Jared likes him. Had a bunch of fun just watching the guys. They were pumped and having fun.

YOu will find that this mostly only applies to the games that will be so close that any margin is looked for and acheived. And coaches do read this believe me as do players.

This is going to be one heck of a football game. I am certain the boys from both teams will be more that ready. I wish them all safe travels and a good clean injury free game. All the banter has been great now its about time for the show. The coaches, fans, and especially the players for both teams should be commended for these fine programs. It really is too bad someone has to lose. I will be pulling for the Bobcats and believe the have the mettle to win this despite being the underdog. Good luck Panthers and regardless the outcome we are sure to meet again.

I'm sure they read it. I just wouldn't see how anyone could trust what was here enough to build strategy into it. Awwww, crap!!!!! I think our coaches have been game-planning based on every post on this thread!  I just hope there's time for them to repair the damage caused by the poor preparations! I tried to tell them that we're just a bunch of orange and purple homers, but they didn't pay attention. ;)

Man, there's no one "sneaking" behind me. I'm always on the move now. Be careful, you may not be safe either...unless you're one of them.

Besides, I have it on the highest authority that little green men from mars are going to assist us on the field so that we can't lose.

Game Conditions

Looks like it will be 60 degrees at game time... not bad.
However the forecast calls for a windy day and night. 20-25 mile an hour winds at game time..

Could play havoc with a passing game:thinking:

That won't be that bad. We can throw in that weather. A little tougher into the wind but 20-25 is just a gentle west texas breeze. Last year at shotwell that was 30-35 and seth threw a pass into the wind to troy that was perfect.

Not a bad wind and it will be pretty much downfield upfield and not crossing. BTW it looks like it will hit 63 and will not cool off as they are predicing the temp to not drop at all before 10pm. Warm south wind. Nice football weather.

I know!!!! I spent a few minutes today bawling, as I read the shout-outs...ours had a special one from Ms. Cole's 4th Grade class, one from Mississippi, and more...along with so many others for all the Panthers.

I know I'm not ready for it to be over, but I'm sure there are bigger and better things in the sequel...as for this book...we have two more chapters to write...right?

WHO YA ROOTIN' FOR???????????????

First Cat its not about the end of the book. its about the memories that where made in the begaining and the middle, those that yall will have to share for the rest of your time. so set aside "that" feeling and sit back and enjoy the ride. ( been there, done that)

I have given this game lots of thought...but less reading of posts as compared to the BP game (can you blame me?). My prediction is a LH win, by 14 points, but it will be a close game till the end. I think LH's defense will be the difference.

However...

If there is a team that CAN beat LH this year, its Celina...so I could be totally wrong!

I always knew you were a smart guy:D

I think each team scores 10 less than you're predicting, but I agree with the margin of victory:thumbsup:
