This should be a great game!

What a matchup between two great teams with great fans. Regardless of what's said on here, we (or at least I) have nothing but respect for the LH team and fans. I am looking forward to this game and meeting a few of you guys.
My take on the game is a low scoring affair, similar to the 06 game, hopefully with a different outcome for the Bobcats. The Bobcat D has been impressive in the last four games. We will need to play lights out with no turnovers to win this game. LH brings a fine tuned offensive and defensive unit to play on Saturday, we will as well. Good luck to both teams and fans.

Bridgeport bulls. Great season.
How did BP almost win?

Celina is respectable, formidable, and beatable as has been proven already three times this year.
Those of our players that I have spoken with over the last two days are as fired up as I have ever seen them.
Panthers 42
Bobcats 28
Liberty Hill Will finish this year just like we started it...Champions...but for now, we'll focus on the task at hand.

You may win but I do not see 42 points on this defense as they are playing since Prosper. The first team defense has not given up 42 in all of the playoff games combined.

My biggest question mark is that young Celina Defensive line? Are they going to be able to stop the best Offensive line LH has ever had?
That's the real question, IMO that's where this one will be decided.
If Celina is slowing us down, but cannot get us off the field than we will be able to keep our defense fresh and their offense out of rhythm, most likely forcing them to throw the ball a little more than they want to.

Here is my first impression of this match up. These are two teams that are used to playing this time of year and know what it takes to win. Which means both teams will have to play all out for 4 quarters. If one team lets up the other team will pounce.
I think this will be a very physical game. Celina has great RB’s but stopping the run is one of LH’s strengths. If Celina hopes to put points on the board they are going to have to do it through the air.
I think LH will score at least 35 points. I know Celina people will say they held us to 22 points last time, but fumbles hurt us and we dropped a wide open TD pass right before the half. We cannot afford those kinds of mistakes.
LH defense is quick and physical. I think the coaches did an excellent job of making adjustments at ½ time in the BP game and boys did a good job of executing. If LH can defend the pass the way they did against BP in the second half I think we can hold them to 4 TD or less.
Should be a great game among two great teams. I can’t wait. It’s early in the week so I may change opinion as the week goes on.

I feel the same way. Respect for an opponent such as LH goes a long way this time of year. I will stick to my prediction of a close game down to the wire. Turnovers will be crucial, as well as, stops on 4th down. Which way will that little oblong pigskin bounce?

Exactly. Through the air is the way...BP tried it, but didnt adjust defensively to allow more attempts on offense. Great adjustments by the LH coaching staff...not so great for BP.

I guess that's kinda like sayin my spoon is not quite as pointed as my knife and not as sharp as my knife but its still just as hard so it'll do the job. As your "receivers" are twice as good, I guess you got "2" receivers this year???

I'm still likin your thoughts on the game. Both D's will slow the O's down but not stop them. I do think you've got it backwards though. Celina's O can pass when it wants to AND when it needs to. The O has scored in the 40's by half just about every playoff game then lets the second team play (my boy has gotten lots of playing time this playoff season) so not as much scoring in second half but lots of time burned off clock. I think the game will come down to LH's D against Celina's O and our little bitty, banged up, replacement, offensive line.

Well considering outside of Wimberley in '04 and '05, no team has shut us down like Celina did. That might be why? And they are only the winningest high school program all time in Texas. I'm with Come On, while this game doesn't scare me one bit, I would much rather be playing someone else if I was a betting man because this one could go either way. I still like our chances alot, because their defense is a little young and ours is pretty salty against the run. But never the less, if anyone knows how to win and win some more, it's Celina.

Is that sarcasm about you offensive line?
And I know Celina can and will pass the ball, but like in '06 and most of your games this year, your OC is going to try and establish the run with your 2 mammoths at RB. LH stops the run very well this year, as good and if not better than any LH team ever in my opinion. So when it's figured out that Celina will have to throw the ball to get good chunks of yardage, that's when I think LH will win the ball game. If Celina can run the ball effectively to set up the pass then LH could be in trouble. But if it gets to the point where Celina has to throw to set up the run, LH will win this game because we have forced Celina out of their element a little. That's just my humble opinion and there is a lot of wishful thinking in the above statements, hopefully it can happen though.

I wouldn't be surprised to only see us break 2 long runs in this game. But, I know in an earlier post I stated something about me thinking LH might struggle running the ball right at that Celina D. After doing a little research, it looks like on a majority of TD runs that Celina has given up, have been up the middle. I know Levey is there and he's an animal, but are your DT's young? Because if they are, it's going to be hell getting your Defense off the field, LH will chip 3-4 yards away every play and slowly march down the field.
I've asked the question a few times and I really haven't gotten any answers, is your Defensive line the weak link of this years team? I know earlier in the year, even before the Daingerfield loss some Celina supporters were saying that the difference in this years team and the teams of the past is the line play is a little down this year. Is that true? Let's hear it Celina folks.

I say LH will be a +65 yards on Celina. Because I am looking for at least one more turnover by Celina than LH whether it be punt, 3 and out, or forced turnover.

I still like our chances alot, because their defense is a little young and ours is pretty salty against the run. But never the less, if anyone knows how to win and win some more, it's Celina.
I said in an earlier post that these two teams are used to playing this time of year and know what it takes to win. Which means both teams will have to play all out for 4 quarters. If one team lets up the other team will pounce. And I say this because I respect their program and tradition.
But the reason I asked the question is because I worry the most about teams that run the spread with blazing speed, I think that is what hurts us the most. I was just wondering what in particular was worrisome about Celina other than tradition.
As far as holding us to 22 points I think they deserve credit for that but we had a few fumbles behind the line of scrimmage (not due to big hits) when we were getting close to scoring. Also, we dropped a TD right before the half that we don’t usually drop. Therefore I think we have the potential to score 30-40 points against Celina. It may not happen but I think we have the potential.
I know there is tons of respect from both sides in this game, but come on, it's coming like some posters from both sides are a little scared of the other.
I have faith in my Panthers, they will bring it. LH by 21!!!

Those are very good points Runnin' Panther, we had 2 very blatant fumbles on Celina's side of the field and that dropped TD pass. But Celina had their chances that they pissed away too. That stuff happens in every game and luckily we were able to scratch out the Win.
And I completely agree about your spread statement. As a whole we don't have a ton of speed in our secondary, if you are able to spread us out with speed at the WR position than you will be successful. I think Celina might even try this, but I just look for them to spend a lot of time running the ball, and if they do, I really like LH's chances in this game.

I agree Celina had their missed opportunities as well. The defense is going to have to play lights out, like they did in the 2nd half of the BP game.
On offense I think the potential is there for LH to put up big numbers as long as we play mistake free.

Sounds like both teams are kinda evenly matched.
Stopping the run is kinda what Celina does also. A few big plays here and there as usual, but also as usual we stop the run pretty well but we CAN go thru the air quite readily... ahem....
I look back to last time and neither came close to 35. Have'nt fumbles hurt you this year? And we did not convert 2 fourth downs inside your 20 last time. If chickens had lips (on both sides) lots of things could have and should have changed. We've been in the 40's before half with lots of subs in after half this year so not making adj's so much after halftimes this playoff year.
Neither team came close to 35 last time and I bet the same holds true again this year. I'm sorry our streak of scoring 50 on playoff opponents will end but I am glad it will end with LH. Not a better opponent to get to play this time of year. I'm greatful I get to watch and not have to be down there getting hit.

As for the fumbles we have done a much better job of taking care of the ball since the playoff have begun. We had1 fumble (I think) against BP last week and that was caused by a clean lick right on the ball. The BP defense deserves credit for causing that one.

Although we speculate and postulate away on this board, the reality is that there are only two outcomes Saturday. Either live to fight another day or for most of the seniors accept the fact that you have strapped them on for the last time.
I know that this difficult season for Celina has built character and may even be the difference in the game. Expectations in both of our towns are wacked and the kids shoulder the brunt of them. Most would not have it any other way.
We all live in unique communities. I have played on teams that lost more games in a season than Celina has in a decade. Many of your kids have never lost a game and really have no idea how that feels. Winning and expectation go hand and hand. Prior to this season the 06 loss was the only dissapointment that our kids had experienced. Daingerfield, Whitehouse and Prosper changed all that.
There is different perspective in c-town this year and expectations are a bit more reasonable. Prior to this year I might have boasted that we would hang half a hundred on you like we have everyone else. Not anymore, the consequesnces are too great and none of our kids want the pain of a season end. At least ours know what it feels like and maybe just maybe that will be the differernce.

Great post gatordaze.
I have a senior and it’s really going to be hard seeing him play his last game (but I’m counting on that being next week).
Your also right about the pressure on these kids to excel, it has gotten to the point where everyone expects to win state. I think we forget how really hard it is to do, we get so carried away with success. Celina kids are like LH kids they don’t know how to lose. My oldest son has only lost something like 4 football games his entire life. Even his pee wee team won their league 3 years in a row.

Giddings, Burnet and Wylie all put major scares into LH, and Brownwood hung half a hundred and Llano and West were able to keep the big plays down a little
Liberty Hill is very beatable this year, and there is no reason to think that Celina can't win
as a Celina fan, i can be objective and see that we are the clear underdogs going into this game. Our season has been rocky and our offense and defensive have both been inconsistent at times.
But the last 7 (7-0) games have been played by a completely different team than the first 7 (4-3) for a plethora of reasons, including getting healthier as a group, experience and growing depth in the lines, greater intensity and urgency, and better quarterback play
the key to this game is just how much Celina has grown the second half of this season. Being that LH is the best team we have faced all year, there is no way to know how our kids will respond until they get hit in the mouth; no way to know how much they have grown until they are truly tested.
If our season were to end saturday, i would still be incredibly proud of what our kids accomplished through adversity, and very very excited about the next season
However, this team could very well rise up again and take the Panthers down. No matter what, our previous 3 title game trips (or 9 total) show that the Bobcats can get it done when it counts.
both teams are defending champions for a reason. Whether we have 12 returning lettermen or 30, or LH has its 2nd best team or not, these two schools deserve to be here, and both can win
Celina is 61-7 in the playoffs
since 1994
win or lose, there are few teams i can imagine being more proud of than this years

LH has had an impressive year. They can move that ball on everybody. Every team they have gone up against they have drilled with that offensive machine they have.
A little perspective can go a long way for this bunch though. Without the numbers for the last games, LH did rush and pass for 6007 yards this year quite impressively. They scored 528 points in those games while Celina rushed and passed for 268 yards less and scored 532 points.
Work smarter, not harder my old papy always said.

I sense that they have stepped it up a notch, as great teams can and do in the play offs. I think you are right Wimbo. Going into last week I really didn't think our pass defense had improved any as the season went on. Part of that was because I hadn't seen us play a passing team in over 4 weeks. I just didn't think we had improved in the secondary at all. But even though we got burned early on Saturday I saw adjustments and improvement from the early season. I saw players making plays that they would not make earlier in the season. We seemed to always have guys in the right position but we never seemed to make a play on the ball in the air early on. But last weekend I saw multiple players get in good position and make a huge play on the ball. I have to admit I was surprised by it but I probably should have had more faith in these boys. I didn't and they proved me wrong last weekend.

Lot of changes have been made since that game. I would say that since that game our qb has thown for about 850. Pior to that game we could throw worth a flip.

True, LHex. To "toot" our own horn, the Texans were very beatable in the regular '05 season, but then put the pedal to the medal (on offense) in the play offs...I saw someone say we had the largest margin of victory in 3A stats during the play offs (I would like confirmation from WOS87 on that one please...i have my doubts).
I have a feeling LH has done the same, probably more on defense. This might be the result of playing such a tough schedule early...you had no choice on the easy district schedule, obviously.

Celina was 13-2 in 1988 but fell off a bit the next year
they would average 8-2 until 1994, when they went 11-1 to start the 15 straight years of 10+ wins
i believe their last losing season was in 1983, and i know there's only been two since 1964

Add probably 5 knees taken after a couple hundred of those yards. No need to score just to tack on more points my dad, the retired coach, always said. ;)

Ok you have said multi times now how hard this game is going to be and what a challenge beating Celina will be for Liberty Hill. I know I asked in an early post but I don’t think I got an answer. What it about Celina team THIS YEAR that has you so concerned. What makes them such a much BIGGER threat than every other great team we have played?
Surely you’re not basing your opinion only on tradition and mystique because both teams have that. I’m curious about the X and Os. In my opinion after watching the film Celina has one of the best defenses we have come up against but they don’t have the best offense we have seen this year. Their strengths play into our strengths so I think it will be a real battle but I haven’t seen anybody shut down our offense. Not in the last 3 years or longer.
It’s the semis for crying out loud it’s suppose to be challenging but I think we are still going to win and I’m not going to go hide in a corner because of what might happen.
The Panthers have never hid from a fight and I don’t think they are going to start this week.

Interesting perspective, I think if you polled Celina folks they would say that our offense is our strength. I know I was pulling for you to win as we have given up way to many big plays against strong passing teams. I believe that we can stop the run and I am glad that you are not pass proficient. Should be a good matchup.

Sorry it's been boring of some of you this week.
Of course you guys want us to talk some noise. It's fun. Bulletin board material is always in high demand. Maybe we are collectively playing it close to the vest to keep any advantage. Although I suspect there will be some Bobcat fans who can't hold it in.
The only thing you need to know is that the Bobcats are dangerous. You can do a player for player match with us and other teams you played but that doesn't account for what's going on with our boys. Truth of the matter, lots of fans are caught off guard by how much this team is coming together. And trust me, we know our football. Most years, we have a good idea of what we can do early on. This year, we see big increases each week so we wonder how much better it's going to get. The boys are driven by something different this year and it is powerful. For some of us, talking trash on a bulletin board only cheapens that.
It's fun to mouth and predict but the mood in Celina is not like that right now, in my opinion. There is even a sense of awe for where these boys were and where they are. Sure that sounds corny to you but this season could be one of the most unique we have ever witnessed. It's like watching a Rocky movie where he gets pounded and bloodied early on, everyone gives up on him, and then you look at his eyes and you see something snap in place. Then he rises up and takes control. Those are the boys your team will be playing. The only thing that's guaranteed in this game is that you'll get the best they've got.

You've got a little ways to go if you want to copmpare tradition...IMHO!
As far as X's and O's, you haven't played anyone who can play both games, equally well. Stack 8 or 9 guys in the box, and we'll throw it, proficiently. Play 7 and we'll run right at you and see what we can do.
Bridgeport was good, but not balanced. You took away the passing game in the 2nd half and they couldn't make first downs, giving you the ball for those famous clock eating drives. We can do that too.
Our kids have come so far since our last loss, you can't imagine. Please, please, please use the Prosper game for a blueprint to beat Celina. PLEASE....

I have been so good this season, mainly because other things have prevailed and have molded my goodhearted silence, but I will add to this bucket of fun by saying this:
THIS IS THE GAME WE ALL WANTED, BOASTED ABOUT AND ASKED FOR!
We can talk about 11 men and Slot T's, and seconds in the fourth and 2006 and three losses versus 38 wins but who cares boys and girls, Christmas came early this year, and two of THE BEST teams get to step up and out and play some hard hitting football against not only worthy opponents BUT like-minded coaches that know how to win! Whatever happens, and WHATEVER is quite probable TO happen, we all know THIS is the game to watch this weekend and as a whole IT WILL BE WORTH WATCHING!!!
Now let's get out there and light some fires and kick some tires!
Good LUCK CATS! ALL OF YOU!
But I'm betting on and rooting for the Celina-type:)

Celina's Defensive front 7 (Outside of Lavey) isn't like it has been in the past, our Offensive line is far better than any we have ever had. This one will be won in the trenches by the Panthers come Saturday evening.

It really is nice that they have football for the little guys at the next level. Maybe he can watch Caleb on TV or in a bowl game after his season is over.
Now how are you going to explain to your mama about how this "little guy" kicked your kitties all over the field? Some see lizards in aligators I guess. If we have too.
