Congratulations to Joel Jones! Graham Steer Joel Jones sets a State Meet Record and wins the gold medal from the Texas Weightliting Championships at Dallas yesterday. He competed in the Junior Division (20y/o and under) at the 85kg weight class. His Clean & Jerk of 140kg (308 lbs) set a new State Meet record! Joel had a total of 250kg (550 lbs) in the 2 lifts (snatch and clean & jerk). Thanks Sonny!

Also, we won girl's doubles consolation championship with Emily Rice and Adri Ustick. (Feb. 17)

I am gonna share something that is not sports related at all but i need to say it. Harrison Brown was killed today in Austin. Stabbed to death on the U.T. campus.. He was a great kid from Graham. I briefly knew him. His parents are absolutely wonderful people. His father is suffering from A.L.S. and is a retired Dr. His mother is a 4th Grade teacher and has taught more than one of my kids. My heart is broken and my head is spinning but I can't amagine the pain the Browns are going through right now.. Tonight Graham as a whole is having a gathering by candle light at Newton Field to honor the life of young Harrison Brown and to pray for the Brown family. It will also be to pray for the others hurt yesterday in Austin and Dallas. I believe it starts at 8pm and all are welcome.. Prayer is a wonderfully powerful tool... We need to use it more often. Yeah we would all love to see that. I guess they make schedules two years at a time now because this is the exact one from last year only difference is home and visitor has swapped.

Hopefully This coming year. It will be corrected if y'all can keep in 4a. I have heard y'all have very large 9th and 10th grade classes that might put y'all in 5a.. Hope not. I really enjoy those games.

I think scheduling is a two way street my friend. Although I am not certain about the situation for not having Wylie on the schedule. I assure you it wasn't because we didn't want to play each other.. I am sure it just was a dates and time issue.. As far as Hirschi is concerned. Wichita Falls does not have many 4a team near it that is not already in its district. I do not know if that played a role but it very well may have.. Every team deserves to have a full schedule against teams from schools of equal size.. Even if the caliber is lacking.

Congrats, Graham, on the dominating run to the championship! The Steers made it look easy all weekend. Hope this is a sign of things to come this fall. Thanks, Graham and Celina have had some great battles over the the years. I hated that they had a down run this year. I am sure they will have it corrected and running on all cylinders come this fall

The scrimmage against San Angelo Lake View looked really great. Graham scored a Lot 8 or 9 times. Defense kept San Angelo from doing hardly anything. They scored once on our JV Squad but that's about it. Our quarterbacks slung that ball like a pro. They played wonderful I can't wait till this season.

Ok week 2 Graham over Brownwood 54-49 in a rockus track meet of a game at the Wood. Graham came away with the hard fought victory after falling behind 16-0 at the start of the game.. But they won. What a game. I will put up some numbers when they come in... WOW!

ok here are some very wild numbers from the Brownwood game. I like number because they don't lie. Good or bad they are fact. Alright...

Graham had a total of 675 yards
#7 passed for 365 yards and 4Tds
#2 rushed for 313 yards and 4Tds
#3 received for 211 yards and 4TDs

Bwood had a total of 500 yards
#4 passed for 400 yards and 6Tds
#21 rushed for 29 yards and 1Td
#12 received for 117 yards and 3Tds

both teams had other players that performed great but I just put up the stat leaders. Also I might have some defensive stats later.. I know this looks like a track meet and it was. Grahams D Stopped them several times when it was important. I remind everyone that they were down 16-0 in the 1st qtr.

Thanks for the info and clips on Hirschi.......this team is in Argyle's district. It appears they have some playmakers and some offensive potential......not sure about them defensively. I suspect Graham will not shut them out.......but should definitely outscore them in both halves. I think it's easier in high school football for teams to develop an offense than to develop a good defense......in other words, it's easier to have a good offense than a good defense. BTW>>>I was not impressed with Brownwood's defense......it looked very unseasoned.

'I will see what I can do. It was a surprising game for sure. They played us tough. We did have a couple of missing pieces (not to make excuses) but you really miss them when they are gone. Oh well a win is a win and now we have a long weekend to rest up...

Okay.... After a very lackluster first half that had Graham down 14-17 to the very hard playing bulldogs of Burkburnett... The Steers Scored on every drive in the 3rd qtr and most in the 4th. To get the victory 63-17.. Kudos to the D. I believe they got four interceptions, two of which were pick-sixes, blocked one punt, and kept another one from being kicked. Only really gave up one long pass. And definitely kept the team in it while the offense found its footing. All in all it was a memorable homecoming victory.

Just from doing some quick homework and looking at film clips from both teams......this game should be very close. I'ma thinkin' I like Graham's offense better and Stephenville's defense better, Lol. I really do think Graham will be able to score on Stephenville's defense......and guess what??? I think Stephenville will be able to score on Graham's defense. This game might just come down to late in the 4th and turnovers. It should be a very good ballgame to watch. Graham wins 30 - 14. Graham's defense shows up very nicely only gave up two touchdowns in the first half. Shut them out in the second half. The offense was able to score against a very very good defense probably one of the better defenses in the state. It was 14 to 14 in the third quarter the turning point was a safety that resulted from a penalty in the endzone. Then the preceding kickoff was ran back for a touchdown. And then our offense ran down the field and scored a touchdown and our defense kept their offense from scoring the rest of the game and there is your score 30 - 14. Good win lots of penalties on both sides no complaints though we're used to it. Stephenville is a very very good team and I think they will do very well in division 1 and they are worthy of their accolades. And I hope now people will realize so are we. I am gonna go ahead and say this.. It is unhumble opinion that this team will now go 10- 0 in regular season play. The hard parts of the season are over now. So it's time to calibrate and heal and take it week too week. Could be a good thing for sure...

There's definitely something to be said about a team that does not believe in the coaching staff unfortunately. You can have all the talent in the world if your if your team doesn't believe in your coach you're not going to win. I do not know if that is what is going on out there obviously but I do know they've been down a couple of years. I'm sure it is tough for them to swallow. Speaking for somebody who has went through a program that was on the downside. It is hard to get back on the upside.

I do not know if that is what is going on out there obviously but I do know they've been down a couple of years. I'm sure it is tough for them to swallow. Speaking for somebody who has went through a program that was on the downside. It is hard to get back on the upside.

Add in a high percentage of turnover in the student population due to the transient nature of the oilfield which is the main employer in the area and no continuity in the school administration or coaching staff... Losing ensues.

That's not always the reason for losing. And that's not always a reason for winning. It certainly does seem to be a good excuse. As of late..... I played on a terrible football team through High School. I was not a disadvantaged youth. I was not a product of a drop and go employment situation. We were just terrible at football. I loved every minute of it. Our best year we were 6 and 5. I wouldn't trade those memories for anything. We never went anywhere and I had a blast doing it.

Graham with its 6th win tonight. Also it's longest trip in the regular season about 400 miles round trip.
Anyway. Final was 54-7. not sure on any numbers yet. I know Gilmore had a 20+ yard run TD and Horn ran one into..lol Several receivers caught TDs. Parker. Mills. Loesch martin maybe more.. Wes ran one on as well. Several running backs played.. guys we are money deep at rb and I love that....D looked awesome.. just ran the show all night....

#7 16/25 276 yards that's okay but here's where it gets fun.
5tds to 3 different receivers.
#3 had 3 tds plus 110 yards. #4 and #6 had caught tds as well
Tucker threw to 8 different receivers last night. I love that. He continues to mature and that is scary.
Rushing....
#2 121 yards on 18 carries and 1 td
#22 77 yards on 7 carries and 1 td
#7 ran one TD in as well

6 different players scoreded a TD last night. That shows balance, good decision making, and good coaching.

I have some numbers on the Graham defensive performance. I am almost afraid to post it but I do have some proof to back it up. Apparently Graham held Big Spring to 5 yards rushing and 95 yards passing. Most of which came on one single play that it was a long catch-and-run touchdown in the third quarter by Big Spring. So according to the sources I have seen Graham only gave up 100 yards Total Defense that's dominating. I have attached a picture of one of those sources.

I'm sure there will be even more improvement happening for this team as the season progresses.......including those 2nd teamers that all smaller schools need late in the season. How many players go both ways now for the Steers??? Argyle's enrollment is at the bottom of D-I, but rarely uses any players both ways in a game......unless it's the semi's or finals. The Eagles coaching staff prefers to develop as many players' skills as possible and therefore tries to fill all positions with a different player.......excluding special teams. Special teams should be as the name implies......special.

We are blessed with a deep roster of upper classmen this season. We currently have zero two-way starters. The starting safety does get some touches on offense. It has been a pleasant surprise to have a D-Line rotation (7 to 8 guys) even early in games.

okay was a great win for our young men this weekend to start district. Graham defeated Bridgeport 62-7.
the game was never in doubt despite a 7-7 tie at the beginning of the game. here are some numbers and I have a video today...yeehaw.

I will start with the D because they have been the stars the last few weeks.
according to the numbers I have collected Bport had

Graham had

rushing 197

#7 was 19/26 73% for 350 yards and 7 tds
#7 hit 8 different receivers during the game and 5 or TDs
#10,#14,#6,#9, & #3 he caught 3 Tds and 89 yards of receiving

#2 had 108 yards rushing and only really played one qtr
#4 rushed for 1TD

okay numbers in the Krum game.. I will only put up Grahams O numbers. This game seemed slow and long.. I am sure the weather had a lot to do with that. It was the first COLD game of the year. Having said that Graham still preformed at near normal numbers.. A little down but very efficient.

Total yards 348

#7 was 13/18 72% with 177 yards and 2 TDs

#2 rushed for 154 yards on 16 carries 9.6 per and 3 rushing TDs.. He also caught 2 passes for 32 and 1 receiving touchdown

#6 had a rushing TD

#3 had 29 yards receiving and 1 TD. He also ran back a Kickoff for a Touchdown

Graham won round 1 against Hillsboro 59-7.. I must say they played a near-perfect game. The first-teamers won hands down on all three phases. They played the first half only. In fact it was pretty much the JV that played the second half. I have a ton of confidence going forward in this playoff run. numbers will follow. Next game will be against Monahan's in Sweetwater next Friday time is supposed to be at 7 p.m.

Graham should win, especially now that Monahans RB Mcalister is out for the year with a knee injury, but I would not underestimate the Loboes-ask Sweetwater and Andrews how that went.
