Prior to this season Winning %
Rockdale - .5221
Navasota - .5195

Looks like you are the weaker alma mater and are critizing us ;)

How many state championships does the town of Navasota have?

Rockdale has two:
Rockdale in 1976
Aycock in 1955

Aycock was Rockdale's all black school in the PVIL league.

I know you can't change the past such, and so forth...But Navasota prob. would have a couple of State titles if they didn't have to play eventual 5A powerhouse Southlake Caroll in 1988 or if they hadn't of been 4A in 1996.

Better watch out what you ask for, you may not like it when you get it....

If LH is 11-0 so far this season, that means their last win was #250 of all-time.... Unfortunately, LH was averaging about a 33% winning percentage for the first 50 years of their existence. There current grand total as of today is: 250-372-24

LH's playoff record prior to 2002: 1-4-1
Navasota's playoff record prior to 2002: 25-19-1

you forget Blue... D23 is the best district in the state, every team in their district top to bottom is better than everybody elses... Jasper is 10 times better than Needville, no way, coached at one and have seen the other... a healthy Needville can play with anyone... anyone... does not mean that they can beat anyone but they can play with them...
Liberty Hill is a force in the playoffs and a legitimate championship team year in and year out for a reason, they expect to win... those kids have been through the tests...
what wins games at this point in the year is going to be intangibles, and Liberty Hill has them,
the problem is that the Navasota people see it as a knock on them but it is not...
Liberty Hill is the better program, they are better than most 3A for above mentioned reasons, they have the better coaches, their players are battle tested...
does this mean that Navasota can not win, Heavens no, just unlikely...
I have been coaching for awhile and I know that any thing can happen and anyone can win... but I also know when I am charging Hell with a water pistol as well...

use to go on penetrations... how many times a team got inside the red zone... if that was tied they went to first downs, then I think to total yards, after that who knows...
how would you like losing a game because you did not have more 1st downs than the other team?

First they would go off most penetrations in the red zone and if they were tied there, the team with the most 1st would move on.

It sucked!

We got knocked out of the Play offs on 1st downs my soph. year.

There was a lot between this post and the last page, but I didn't make it past this post. While this is indeed the third round of the playoffs, Navasota was the third place team in their district, making the playoffs with an eight point win over La Grange in week ten. In the first round, they beat another third place team in Needville. In round two, they beat yet another third place team in Jasper, who like Navasota, secured a playoff birth in week 10 with a six point win over Silsbee. Now Jasper did knock off a district champ in round one, but it was the district champ of the third worst district in 3A (Massey Ratings). So even though this is the third round, it does strongly resemble a first round matchup between a powerhouse and a team that barely squeaked into the playoffs.

No I take that back. We got knocked out on a 0 – 0 score. We had 2 penetrations they had 3. We had 15 first downs they had 9. We missed a field goal the last play of the half. He had not missed one all year.

We had the ball on the 21 yard line at the end of the game time running out. We make one yard we go to the semi’s they stop up they move on. The second string running back (starter out) MA’d on the last play of the game. Didn’t run the play that was called. Needless to say, we were playing basketball the next week.

I’m sick all over again!

 WOS87. Now I know why Liberty Hill fans are acting like this... they are relatively new to success.

I'm not going to argue with you people... fact is, you have your opinion, and I have mine. If you think the game is already over, then so be it. I've seen the game film from LH-Carthage, and all I can say is that the defense looked like they were arm tackling. That won't happen against Dexter Pratt, Jacolby Stokes, Brandall Jackson, Gaston Lamascus, Jason Orlando, or Jamel Thomas. Not arm tackling those guys.

I don't care what you guys say really. None of this even matters. It's all opinion and hearsay, comparing opponents, and flat-out just crap. Go ahead, don't give us a chance, I could care less. We'll find out Friday who the better team is, and we all have different opinions on who. Liberty Hill is not unbeatable.

You do realize that that arm tackling defense held a team averaging 40 points a game to their lowest total (14) since week one, right? You must have also seen when we knocked their RB out of the game with a concussion, too, right? That's one hell of an arm tackle I guess.

Look, I know that Navasota has one of the best RBs in the state, perhaps the best receiver we have faced this year, and a pretty good QB on top of that. But a few guys don't make a team. Overall, I don't think Navasota has what it takes to beat us without us also beating ourselves. The Rattlers are wildly inconsistent. Sometimes they look like an average team, at best. Sometimes they look like a really good team. It's going to take four quarters of that really good team playing perfect football this Friday to have a chance. The defense is going to have to figure out what it couldn't against Caldwell, or else the offense is going to have to score a lot of points.

Everyone knows that we aren't unbeatable. I don't think any team on any level is unbeatable, especially when playing good teams. I don't think there's anything wrong with being confident in your team. Celina's been having success for a decade and you see the same kind of stuff from their fans. It has nothing to do with recent success. It has everything to do with having a damn good football team.

I don't recall anyone stating that we have had this long storied history of success. Heck, I was excited to see we reached 250 wins. I know anyone in Liberty Hill is realistic in knowing that our success doesn't go back to the beginning of time. We didn't even have an accredited high school for a few years in there. I guess kids attended other schools - it was before my time here.

Just let the kids play the game. Both teams have worked so hard for so long to get to this point, and to tell one team that they are better and more proven, and the other team that they are newbies so get the hell out of my team's way while they waltz to the state championship is crap. I hope that neither LH or Navasota players read this board. Kids are very believing of anything that they read, as is evident by the kids that post on this board taking smartass comments as truth from smartass posters. Nobody from Navasota has any ill will toward anybody from Liberty Hill, or Rockdale, or Sweetwater, or Jasper or anywhere in this great state. I am sure it is the same for those towns vice versa. So we should all represent our towns and teams better and just end this crap. If you have anything useful to add, just add it. But we all know by now how good and proven LH is, and we all know by now how fired up and rejuvinated the Rattlers are. No need to keep up the debate any longer. Navscanmaster out.:)

I know a lot of people like to use the Caldwell game as a comparison. I know also that Liberty Hill has two hosses in the backfield that run hard and pile up the yardage with the perfection of the offense they run. My question is this: We faced Xavier Canto. I think that as a runner, and I have seen some different video of Liberty Hill this year, Canto is a different style of runner than those two. He bursts off the line, runs low, cuts quick, never lets his feet quit moving, and runs at full speed from snap to whistle. Canto would probably pile up even more yardage as a Panther because of how good he is. I know that Allman is tested and got an A+, and Gonzales is proving he belongs on the honor roll as well. But having seen both teams, albeit one limited on film, I think that there is a difference in the Slot T offense between the two teams. Caldwell is not quite there yet, and Canto really rescues that offense from being average. They are still really good without him, as they didn't have him last year, but he made them much better.

All that is just an observation. It doesn't have to relate to how the Panthers and Rattlers will match up, but I just wanted to make a personal observation about it since a lot of people are comparing Caldwell and Liberty Hill only on the basis of "a" slot T offense being run. It is not meant to take any shots at Navasota, Caldwell, or Liberty Hill, so try not to make it so.:D
You are absolutely correct in that there is a difference between the two offenses. When I watched Caldwell, I wasn't paying that much attention to the "style" of runner he is, so can't really answer on how he would compare to Allman, Gonzo, Gavin, Troxell (out since Cuero for the most part) or Lattimore. He did seem to be a very strong FB and was good, for sure!

In regards to Liberty Hill's overall record...

During Coach Vance's seven years, LH has won 72 games. In the previous 15 seasons, the Panthers only won 66. So 28.8% of the Panthers' 250 wins have come under Coach Vance.

There is no doubt that Coach Vance and company know what the hell they are doing. Hell half of Vances 72 wins came with scrubs with more heart than the good grinch. Now that he has some talented players you see what kind of damage they can do. 21 wins in a row and a monster ring.

You Rattlers get pissed when I say you are done if 4 more days. But, why? Why are you mad? Is it because it is almost over? Is it because you don't want it to end? Is it because I say what you already know and it hurts?

I remember when we had 13/15 kids on the football team, and half of those played in the 8 man band at half time. So no there's not a long history of winning here untill the last few years when our town grew and Coach vance unstilled the "winning" into our fottball team. Since then a lot has changed. Including the fact that we play to win.

When I moved here basketball ruled.

The High school kids went to Georgetown when we didn't have a high school. I think.

i think it was brought about a week ago and everyone concluded that LH is not there yet. i know i for one stated that we are definitly laying a foundation but are now where near the status that a handful of programs are in 3A.

i would say, about 4 more deep playoff runs and a very, very few amounts of loses in that tenure. then we can start to think that we have a dynasty :D

until then, lets make it 22 in a row on friday night!

Well...When I think of dynasty I think lifetime, but that is an unrealistic time period when it comes to HS football. So, I would define a long period as the same amount of time takes for freshmen to become seniors, in this case.

Using that senerio we are a dynasty.

But I agree with Daddy 11 that 9/10 years deep in the playoff with a winning record is more likely. Which is very hard to do in High School football simple because the team changes year to year.

I think for a team to be a dynasty it can't just be one class or two classes that dominate, it has to be a consistent mix every year...

Damn, look what I've missed all day. Nothing! RATTLER POSTERS, it is crazy to keep going back and foward with these people. They are living their non athletic, horrible high school football lives through the current LH teams. Of course it is easy for them to come on here to talk smack. They are not the ones who will be playing. AT THIS POINT, WE KNOW THAT NO ONE IS GIVING NAVASOTA A CHANCE, YOU DON'T HAVE TO KEEP REMINDING THE DOWNLOW NATION. I GUESS SOME OF YOU HAVE A REALLY BAD CASE OF OCD! It is great that fans supports their favorite team, but to go as far as some of the LH posters have gone is just really crazy. When they have achieved what the Sealy's, La Marque's, Stephenville's, SL Carrol's, etc., maybe they will become more humble. Yes, they have won a championship and had some great playoffs run. You would think that they would know how to ACT. Now, of course I am not referring to all of LH Posters. But, if the shoe fits, wear it. Year in and year out, Navasota has always had a great basketball team. It is expected. So, when our teams advance further and further in the playoffs, we don't criticize, degrade, or talk down to the other team. We simple go out and play like we know how to play. The game is played on the court not online. Any team can lose on any given night. As football fans, everyone should know that. So no matter what you LH posters say, the game will be played on Friday. You all will look really silly if your beloved Panthers were beaten!

Once again, good luck to both teams.

Navasota has no earthly idea what is going to hit them friday night, it might be close for awhile, but LH puts together its best offensive game of the year and rolls 600 yards up on the grass snakes.

dont know alot about navasota but do know they are a big strong on the D line, This might be what you need to clogg up the middle and create opportunties for the linebavkers to make plays.

I dont see this has a blow out however I will take Liberty Hill by two TDs

I do believe Navasota is a good football team and have a lot of respect for what they have accomplished this season. I would not be surprised if Navasota hangs around and makes it interesting.

Liberty Hill just doesnt turn the ball over which make it had to get those extra possesions and flip flop field position.

Funny. Dexter Pratt runs for 313 yards ON THE DOT, with 5 TDs and 2 rec. for 98 yards and 1 TD and Navasota rides his back to a victory over the mighty Kittens of Liberty Hill.

If you really want to go deeper, Navasota and Liberty Hill have never played, so technically Liberty Hill doesn't dominate Navasota.

my question is, would Navasota being saying the same thing if they were playing someone like, Westlake, or La Marque, or Denton Ryan...
Liberty Hill in the last few years is in the same category as those schools...
again, they have all been beaten and can be beat... but they have to understand that this is where the majority of the posters are coming from

Come on Navasota lighten up. You can’t take Super R too seriously and just so you know the more pissed off you get the funnier he thinks it is.

Don’t worry the Panthers have plenty of respect for the Rattlers. Like my son told us at the dinner table last night. Pratt is one of the best running backs in the state and for sure the best we have played this year. We know he will be a load to take down, and if one Panther can’t do it alone then another Panther will be there to help out. So trust me the kids are not taking ya’ll lightly, and you can bet they will be ready to take care of business come Friday night.

Should be a good game but I don’t think ya’ll have the defense to stop the Cats.

you are right, he wasnt. but Cuero is home to the best group of athletes on one field in the whole state of 3A texas football.

ask anyone on this board and they will solidify this post? I was simply saying, a team that is LOADED with talent was completly worn down and over matched as the game went on.

we have stoped running back faster and bigger than Pratt. Will we be able to on friday? who knows? but i promise you, this defensive unit has seen it all

darius nesby- 4A Burnet
quincy wittington- Cuero
#7 - Cuero
harley west- wimberley
#24- Carthage.

burnet had negative rushing yards, Cuero had a few long runs (but could never touch the field bc we had the ball the whole time), Wimberley had 6 rushing yards. Carthage had maybe 2 good runs, probably did not sniff a hundred on the ground.

on the year, we are averaging 4.27 YPC

yes its all numbers, but you will look at our undersized defense in warm ups and chuckle, but by games end you will be scratching your head

There is no doubt about it Pratt is a great running back. I have no problem in giving him props. But will he be able to do what NO other running back has been able to do the Panthers. LH is very, very good against the run. I don’t think there is a 3A team in the state that can beat LH with the run. IF Pratt is able run over the Panthers I will be the first come on here and eat crow, but I just don’t see it happening.

I would love to see how LH matches up with Justin Johnson. Before anyone goes crazy....I KNOW that both teams still have big games to play and my "wish" to see this match up may never be, but I still can wish! :D

Despite what my fellow Panthers believe, Pratt will be the best overall back we have faced. We have face faster backs, and we have faced big backs, but overall, Pratt will be the best. We kind of got a preview last week agaisnt Tatum from Carthage, who might actually be a little more explosive than Pratt and just a bit faster. The bigger backs don't worry me quite as much as the smaller ones. It's RBs like Cuero's that I fear the most. The small extremely quick, extremely fast backs.

And while Cuero is loaded with talent, from what I'm hearing Dallas Roosevelt just might be the most athletically talented team in 3A.

In our game Friday, I doubt Navasota will try for the homerun very often. They'll probably try to pound away with Pratt, move the chains, and keep our offense off the field. The last thing they want to do is get into a scoring match. Their coaches will see that Carthage had success when they put in a FB and ran right at us, so they'll try the same. The key here, however, is that Carthage didn't do that enough for us to adjust defensively. They still thought their best chance against us was through the air, so that's how we continued to defend them.

Navasota will move the ball and put up points. I don't expect to shut them out. The key to beating LH, however, is your defense. That's where the Rattler's biggest test will be. We know they have offensive weapons. What are they going to do defensively to stop us? Hope for turnovers? Try to strip the ball? Stack the line and be vulnerable to the big play? We hear a lot about their offensive weapons. What are they going to do to stop us that they didn't do against Caldwell, because our O-line is light years ahead of Caldwell.

Navasota's defense will let LH run right through them until LH is too pooped to go on.:helpme: :helpme:

The only problem with this plan is that this year the O is not the only group that LH has to go crazy over. Our D rocks, and our players rarely if ever go both ways. Conditioning, Conditioning, Conditioning...

Yeah, Navasota will just pound it away up the middle. Mmmhhmmm, mmmhhmmm. They will probably abandon the passing game completely, too. Mmmhhmmm, mmmhhmmm.

I'm sorry, I don't want to see a slow game. I want to see a shootout with an exciting ending. Since I know that nobody really wants to sit through a blowout, what would you rather see? A 21-20 type game with tons of turnovers, or a 58-57 game with 1400 yards of offense?

I think your pretty much right on the money Panther One. However I do think they will have to put the ball up in the air if they intend on moving the chains.

They have NO chance of beating us by running the ball no matter how good Pratt is.
