We will see how unstoppable Liberty Hill is and see exactly how they will match up against Mr. Pratt, Mr. Stokes, Mr. Jackson, Mr. Sweed, Mr. Orlando and the rest of the Rattler offense. And we are still talking about this game because this is the game that will be played on Friday. But just wait, you will get your turn again to shine, next year.
You know, some of you same people were saying the same crap before the Rattlers played Bellville, Giddings, Caldwell, Needville, Jasper, and now LH. What's new? I know, lets talk about the Navasota Rattlers and how they don't stand a chance this week. Or, lets talk about Navasota and how they can't stop LH's offense. Or, lets talk about how many point LH will score. Well folks, we have read it all. Give it a rest. Lets give the players a chance to do what they are supposed to do. That's play the game on the field.
So, if the Rattlers play the Panthers close, Navasota will gain some of you all respects? Or, if we beat the Panthers, will you all give them respect or say that it was lpure luck? Well, we don't need the respect from POSTERS in an online chat room.. LH has never played Navasota in any sport. LH' ends an 18 yr playoff drought, win 1 state championship, and now you think that you are GOD's gift to this Earth. The only people that needs to respect the Rattlers will be the players that are on the field. We understand that LH has something good going. "Their 'unstoppable Offense', and their 'pressure defense', and oh, 'the best fans in football.' So does Giddings and Bellville. Heck, Bellville has had a strong football tradition for years. Not once has any Bellville posters ever talked down about a team. Of course, not all of you NEGATIVE POSTERS are from LH, but, those from Jasper, Rockdale, etc, you know who you are, act like you have some type of class. I know it is easy to come on here and talk a bunch of crap. But remember, what comes up must come down. And yes, when you do fall, you will fall hard!
Good luck to you all.
Go Rattlers!
Finally home from school? You must have had that festering in your tummy all day!!! Sad thing is, it's the same ol' same ol'....you just keep repeating yourself, except when you said "We did a good job of stopping those Bulldogs of Jasper." Looks like the only thing you stopped was not letting them score 41. Navasota did win the game I know, but I wouldn't be too proud of giving up 40 points to them!!!!
Opinions are like (you know what) everyone has one, and yours is opposite of ours.
It will be a good game, and IF Navasota wins, you'll see us congratulating your team. Not you, but your team!

You don't like what you are reading...so you respond. When anyone else doesn't like what they are reading they respond. It's call an argument.
When you are scared you pull the " I don't get no respect " card.
LH and Navasota will have their hands full in 2 more days. Till then.
Come on with the come on. It helps pass the time.

beg to differ......and I do know a bit about competitive sports, but now that you ask...
Those on the other side of the line from LH are, for the most part, considered competitors.
If it is Burnet or Hutto, they are rivals.
The title of enemy would be reserved for Wimberley, Giddings, or the referrees from the Carthage/LH game.
as for Navasota, my non-competitive knowledge tells me that they are just the next in a long line of victims.

Actually, I have been out of school for a good while now. Currently working on a master's degree. The last message referring to the Jasper Bulldogs wasn't intended for you. Unless you are from Jasper. No, no one is ever proud to give up 40 points. But a win is a win at this point. What I dislike is when you have beaten a team and their posters still follow the team wishing and hoping that they get beat by the next team.

Speaking for myself, I have the utmost respect for the Navasota football team. In fact, when I printed out the bracket, I picked them to win all the way up until they face us. That is showing some respect.
I had no doubts you would make it this far. I have no doubt that this is as far as you go.
After playing the entire Panther organization (team/coaches/fans) you too will have nothing but the utmost respect...
But, I am confused about the 18 year old playoff drought....

In the first half of the season, we started sluggish in all of our games except for Cuero. I think it was a championship hangover. It appeared that we had a hard time getting up for teams that we knew we should handily beat. The Rockdale game was the worst, since it fell in between two bye weeks. They came out really fired up, never let up, and we were just flat. We had over a hundred yards in penalties, many of which kept drives alive for them, and some costly turnovers. To end the game, we started taking a knee inside the five with around 2 minutes left, so we could have punched it in again to make the score look better if we were concerned about that. If you look at the stats, we had about 300 more yards in total offense...we just had too many mistakes.
For example: To start the game, we allowed Rockdale to return the opening kickoff to our 40, then gave them 20 yards in penalties, including a roughing the passer on a 4th down stop, so they essentially had to go 20 yards for the score. Then we drove down the field and fumbled inside the five, and that kind of set the tone for the first half. Like the previous games, though, we came out in the second half and played much better. I don't know if it was that game or the playoffs nearing that kind of woke us up, but ever since, we've come out strong and played with much more enthusiasm.

I do not care who wins Friday. I do think Liberty Hill will win. Does that mean I dislike Navasota or want them to lose? Not at all. I believe Navasota will be unable to stop Liberty Hill's offense. It's as simple as that really.

What is there to be scared of? A bunch of fat guys sitting behind an old computer typing crap? A football game isn't played via the internet I understand that people have their opinions but some of them go a little too far. We must remember that these are 15-18 year old children. Too many people live their fantasies of winning a championship through their children, other peoples children, etc. At times we act less mature than they do. It is good to disagree, that is a part of human nature. However, It is just crazy when people make idiotic remarks. Especially if you have never seen a team play, never have faced a team, don't even know what type of offense or defense the other team runs. Every team is vulnerable at all levels. Just remember these remarks in the end.

I understand that, in fact, I don't think that the Rattlers will win either. LH has too much offense and experience for the Rattlers. But, anything can happen. No one has ever said that they disliked Navasota, and I have never said that anyone didn't. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Some of these predictions are just rediculous.

Ok, good job. I do apologize. No harm meant. However, we will see on Friday, November 30, 2007 in Temple, Texas. If you win, I will congratulate the team. And, I know that it is all a part of the game to talk smack. Been there done that. But, that was back when Liberty Hill wasn't winning. If I were still playing sports, I wouldn't talk smack like that. I would just lay you out on the field or score 30 points against you in a game of hoops.

The ten others on the field, the eleven after eleven after eleven on the sidelines...it doesn't end. We don't rebuild, we reload.
3. You spouting Pratt's speed. Speed isn't everything. Although we have all the speed we need, what really matters is the intelligence, the read, the strength, and the QUICKNESS (and don't confuse quickness with speed) with which our defense FLOCKS to the ball. I say FLOCKS because if you've ever seen a flock of birds in flight, and seen how quickly they can ALL change directions, and work together as a UNIT, then you have a slight idea of what our Defense is like. As for our offense, by the time you realize who is even carrying the ball, it will be too late. We'll have some long break-aways...but the nails in your coffins will be that grid-iron eating, back-breaking, smash-mouth, in-your-face, clock controlling yard-by-yard show of force.
4. Your touting the fact that you are better than Rockdale. No offense to Rockdale, because they did have a bit more success against us than most (though a large percentage of that was our own doing), but if that is the best comparison you can make, it is going to be a long night and a long ride home for the snakes.
5. I PROMISE that nobody that your team has played has even come close to preparing them for what they will experience on Friday night. Granted, you may be able to say the same, and only time will tell. But we have played bigger, faster, and stronger, and haven't missed a step.
6. I do hope that your team is as over-confident as you are...but they'd better beware because IMO, it is going to take a PERFECTLY EXECUTED OFFENSE and A PERFECTLY EXECUTED DEFENSE THAT FORCES MULTIPLE TURNOVERS to compete.
7. Should the unthinkable happen (this is high school football), and the Rattlers rise to the biggest challenge of their lives, and defeat the Panthers. Then my hat will be off to them (well, if I wore a hat it would be) and I will be the first to congratulate. Let me wish both teams a healthy trip/game and may they both be able to say that they left it all on the field.
My question that remains is...What makes the Navasota Rattlers so much different than the our last 20 opponents?
We're not OVER CONFIDENT... if anything, thats you Liberty Hill fans. The quote above should be proof. That makes me laugh... you calling us over confident in the same post that you basically say your offense is unstoppable and your defense is unbelievable... you didn't say that exactly, but you might as well have. And about the reload crap... your going to feel SO bad when your program finally goes down hill, because it will eventually, and I'm not going to be here saying,"It's ok, you'll get back to where you were." Instead, because you have basically acted with 0 class, I'll be here laughing. You may be good, but you'll never have my respect, whether you beat us by 70 or not.
What makes us different? We're the Navasota Rattlers, that's all you need to know. Good luck to you Friday.

I gave Rockdale credit. I said they came out really fired up and never gave up. That's more than I can say for many teams that we have played. The question was how they kept it close, though, and the answer to that is because of our mistakes. They never stopped our offense. The only thing that kept us from scoring was turnovers, penalties, the half, and taking a knee. We didn't punt. Defensively, we had several penalties that moved the chains for them. It was perhaps our worst performance of the year.
Did Rockdale play a good game? Yes. Did they do a good job of capitolizing on some of our mistakes? Yes. Would the score have been close without our mistakes? No. So there you have it. Why was this score close? Because of our mistakes. I could have just said that Rockdale played a helluva game, but that wouldn't have been the correct answer to the question.

The difference between us and the other 21 teams...is that were not one bit intimidated or scared of y'all. I gurantee that's how y'all win 50% of y'all's games is by getting the opponent to think that they are defeated before they even step on the field.

you are a joke. if you think any kid that works his butt off year in and year out is going to come into a game already mentally defeated you are off your rocker.
we intimidate no one i promise, but one thing we do do is gain your respect as the game goes on. i have never heard a team after a game say that they wernt impressed with what we did as a program. maybe giddings, but both teams got out of hand in that game lol
and to think that Navasota has far superior kids is even more ridiculous, the boys in Navasota are no different than any other team buddy, hell they are no different than us. We have just proven we can win the big one..
can yall say the same?

You have the right to be what? Classless? Whether you like it or not you represent Liberty Hill while you are on this board. Many fans of other teams may not POST here, but I know in Navasota a lot of people READ it. Therefore, when you act arrogant, you give the whole town a bad rep.
Ask anyone from Needville or Jasper... I don't normally talk crap. When Jasper fans said their team was slow, etc. I didn't go with it and say "yeah we're going to beat the living snot out of you because your team sucks" I said they had to be exagerrating and that we'd never underestimate an opponent. We (Navasota posters) got called classy plenty of times by Needville posters. So enough of that.

Instead, because you have basically acted with 0 class, I'll be here laughing. You may be good, but you'll never have my respect, whether you beat us by 70 or not.
What makes us different? We're the Navasota Rattlers, that's all you need to know. Good luck to you Friday. [/B][/QUOTE]
I'm surprised that you allow official smack talk to get under your skin like that. Don't let me steal your cool, dude.
I haven't said one personal or negative thing about Navasota.
I only praise what I know.
After Friday, I'll praise Navasota if they bring it and end up the victors.
Don't preach to me about zero class, because class is not determined on who roots the loudest for their team.
This is all in good fun, and I won't call into question anyone's integrity or class or personal worth. I am a cheerleader from way back, and will bleed purple til there's nothing left to bleed.
I'm proud. Navasota fans are proud. I don't knock you for that, and I hope that you take yourself and this thread a little less serious from here on out.
As our other friends from Navasota and my fellow panther fans have shown in this marathon of a thread, one has respect for the other, and even more respect for the unknown. We've never played each other and nobody can predict the what will happen, especially in a high school game. But come on dude, lighten up. As long as it is a clean game, and a fairly called game, and everyone stays healthy, and both of our teams walk away knowing they did their best, then everyone wins...even though only one advances.
My best to you and the Rattlers...may the best team prevail...and if it isn't LH, then I'll be in the stands the following week, rootin' for the Rattlers since they had to beat the best to be the best.

You know, you leave for a little while to watch the Aggies whip up on Alabama and when you get back, there's eight new pages. Then you start to read through them and want to reply to something on page 53 or so, but you realize that the subject has changed six times since then, and you wonder if it's still okay to respond to something that old. This thread is rediculous.
But anyway, not many teams are intimidated by Liberty Hill when they play us for the first time. Most teams, especially when the playoffs roll around, think they can beat us. They see a team that 's full of what looks to be a bunch of average white boys, for the most part, that does nothing but run the ball. Opposing teams will throw out things like speed and athleticism as reasons they'll win or that they're good against the run. Every team we played in the playoffs last year thought they could shut our offense down and said our defense wasn't good enough to stop them. Against Crockett, several of their fans decided to shout across Floyd Casey to us that we weren't ready for East Texas Football, and then proceeded to tell our team the same throughout warm-ups. They got quiet real quick, as we amassed a 35-7 halftime lead.
This year, Robinson thought they had a chance. Carthage's speed and physical defense was supposed to be too much for us to handle. I don't think we've played a playoff game in the past two years that our opponent felt defeated before the game. When I read Coach Fedora's quote in the paper about having to believe because we defeat most of our opponents before the game is even played, I chuckled a little. I'm sure that's the message he's sending his team this week. The real trick is going to be getting his team to continue to believe if we start ripping off td after td. I will give Carthage credit. Their defense stayed aggressive and they fought til the end. It just wasn't enough.

I respect that... as I respect your team very much. 21 wins in a row is no joke. And defeating your playoff opponents pretty handily too. We know it's going to be an uphill battle... Liberty Hill is tough and battle tested. Pound away, execute perfectly, no mistakes... that sums up what I know about Panther football. You may not realize it, but you don't have to talk to be able to defeat your opponent before the game. The winning streak and state championship does that itself.
With that said, we may just be another line of believers that say we can stop you, but so be it. We have faith in our team and our coaches to come up with the gameplan to shut you down and score on you. We have to be humble to the opponent because we haven't been to this point before... no one on this team has playoff experience besides 1 player. But that doesn't matter anymore... all that matters is that were here and we're ready to play some football!

I will say that Navasota is a very good football team, BUT they throw it a little too much. Pratt would be EVEN more productive if they didn't go deep to Jackson as often as they do. That sounds weird I know, because a lot of people buy into the philosophy that the passing game opens things up for the run. If Pratt got about 10-12 more attempts in the LH game, Navasota would have a much better shot to stay in this thing.

and to think that Navasota has far superior kids is even more ridiculous, the boys in Navasota are no different than any other team buddy, hell they are no different than us. We have just proven we can win the big one..
can yall say the same?
After you play them Friday night and see them on the field, lets see if you have the same opinion. As I said before talent does not always win games but I will bet you Navasota will have more talented kids then LH. We faced the same thing when we played Marlin, I have one of the star players that works for me and he will tell you as far as talent goes we should have not even been on the field with them.

Good post....
Do you think that Fedora's post was meant to help his players from not beleiving the hype that goes with LH? Of the games I have been to this year, I haven't seen very many of LH's opponents coward down early because of any HYPE!
Usually when a team plays a champ or a top ranked opponent, they will play above thier heads trying to show the state that the are also "elite".
So to go back to Fedora's quote....I feel he is trying to have his players believe in themselves. From what I've seen/heard about Navasota, they are a good team when they want to be...and average team when they are off. I'm sure they will bring thier "A" game for the Panthers. It will be a great game on Friday.

Which one are you talking about looking slower due to their size?... About Caldwell, not many teams are going to be very successful stopping the run when all eleven players on the offense are in the box. Just watching it always seems like it will be the hardest offense to stop.

I don't know man. Caldwell's O-line and Xavier Canto were able to hit their assignments super quick. I was also surprised at how fast Canto and Sims were because of how big they were.
Our defense has faced this offense twice, once against a really good team in Caldwell and once against a not-so-good team in Cleveland. Since our defense is semi-familiar with this type of offense, I think that we will be alright.

You know. I have been reading this and many other boards for several years. But have always refrained from posting. I just enjoy reading the banter. But, this week I finally have something to say. :)
Every week LH posters listen to the other team posters rant about how they are much faster, have better athletes, are much bigger, etc.. And every week (for the past few years) LH has mostly come out on top. Why? Because there is more to football than speed and size. The kids at LH have heart, will, and determination. They believe in the system and the coaches. They execute. Plain and simple. And they do it with class.
And besides, for a team to have won 21 straight games, there must be some athletes in there somewhere. ;)
In high school football, anything can happen. I hope that LH comes out on top this week. But if they don't, I assure you they will leave the field with their dignity in tact.
Let's get it on!!!

You Navasota posters out there need to chill out a little bit and not take all this so seriously. You guys are insulting us by saying we are arrogant and classless. When in fact ya’ll are participating in the same conduct as us.
I guess you guys think that because we’re the favorite and you’re the underdog we are suppose to be all modest, and tell you how great you are. It seems like ya’ll are looking for our approval to validates how good you are. Well this is football and that is never going to happen.
When you tell us how good Pratt is and how he will make our defense look like Pee Wee football players, we don’t call ya’ll arrogant and classless. We laugh and say bring it on. When we say the same back to you guys, ya’ll say we are not respecting you and your football team.
LH has grown into being winners and regardless of what happens on Friday you cannot take that away from us. I would not call that arrogant or classless, just confident and proud.

except for: LH is the Defending state champion, so they run it better...
I hope it turns out to be a good game... but now I am getting the feeling that Navasota is way out of their league on this one... LH is in a different league than any other team Navasota has played... They have never been in this situation and emotion will only get you so far... maybe a quarter... but reading these posts makes me feel that Navasota feels they can get the ko early and then they will shocked when they do not even get the knockdown... I really hope that State in 08 is not on the football team, that would be really sad...
LH is different from any other team and I now starting to think that LH will win by a little more than 2 td's like I originally thought

I have decided we that we must look really bad on film because every team we play says exactly the same thing. We have no athletes our running backs are average, we have no speed or size and on and on and on. I guess it’s a secret trick our coaches play on all our opponents.

I don't think he meant it as you took it, as "crap talk".
I also don't think the Panther's will totally dominate you the whole game. In the end, I honestly think they will beat Navasota by about the playoff average of 42-14.
Navasota hasn't made it this far by luck. It's just that we really have been hearing the same thing for so long, and we have been saying the same thing for so long....we have just run out of ways to say it without someone taking offense to how it's said!!!

All pumped-up smack talking aside.
I think Navasota will battle really hard, and may even be up a Touchdown or two. Most likely they will score first. BUT, that hard battle will only last for about 1.5 quarters. Half-time will come and go, and the success that Navasota had in the first 1.5 quarters will have been addressed. Any needed adjustments made will be very obvious, as LH will dominate the rest of the game. Our 4th quarter is always our strongest, and though Navasota may turn out to be the exception, every team we've played couldn't play the 4th like it was the 1st. This is due to the smash mouth football that Liberty Hill brings every down of the entire game. Historically, it has even worn down the best of teams that we've faced.

You did not grown into being winners, you just happen to have a great run of athlete's. We went through this same thing from 2000- 2005. Football-State Champs, Runnerup State Champs, Baseball- State Champs 2 yrs., Softball- State Champs. Enjoy it while you can because it will not always be this good. Good Coaches + Good Kids will only get you so far at the 3A level. I will admit LH football team is really good but most of you talk to high and mighty. If you do not win State you will have a lot of crow to eat no matter weather you are a player or a fan.If you win State back to back I will tip my hat to you, personally I know from us trying to do it a few years back it is not easy. I know after we won State in football that we did not come on this board and blow our horn as much as the LH fans about being the Defending State Champs. Remember last years State Champ is last years team not this years team.

It truly is a shame that a match up such as this between two quality football programs is not going to be televised for the entire state to see. Navasota brings much to the table and is to be respected. A great running back, a fine passing game, and a highly skilled secondary should make the Rattlers a force to be reckoned with. Liberty Hill also brings much to the table and is to be respected. A fierce running game and a smothering defense could put Liberty Hill over the top! Both coaching staffs do an excellent job of making in game adjustments and of making the gutsy call at the right time. We should all be thankful that we are able to discuss such a game! And those who are able to attend should be envied by all! This will truly be a great match up between two great teams! The outcome will not matter so much as long as both teams give full effort and display class as I am sure both schools will do. So let's all gather together in the spirit of Texas high school football and cheer on these two fine teams!

Even though we are confident, we still take one game at a time. You haven't heard anyone from LH say anything about next week's game have you? All the talk is about the game at hand. This just happens to be Navasota's week.
As has been repeated ad nauseum on here, confidence and pride do not make an unclassy fan.
As for being high and mighty. IMO, even if LH doesn't prevail tomorrow night, we still have a lot to "crow" about because we are the undefeated district, bi-district, and regional champs.
Last year's team can always be proud that they won the state championship, this year's team should be proud because they have defended it to perfection thus far.
Each team has accomplished, already, something that the other team didn't, and who knows, maybe this year's team will have another ring AND the perfect dream season.
We know it won't last forever, but we're going to enjoy it and be proud while it does. I'd do the same if my son played for Navasota.

in response to rattlerdudes question about how i see the game being playeed.
you are right when you said that i obviously think that LH will win. But any fan, of just about any team thinks that.
(even though according to you, every team is intimidated by us? ) :D
but i see a game where LH does what it always does in the first half and Navasota hangs around. i see a 14 point lead at half for the panthers, then they run away in the second half like always
same score as last week :D

Now this is a great post!
No smack as he said just LH pride. I like that.
Navasota will bring it for 4 quaters just as LH will and may the better team win and the refs stay out of the way.

I am reverting back to my original statement made Saturday morning. Navasota will play the Panthers hard. There is no doubt they have a lot of pride and the fact that they two platoon will help them stay fresh, but in the end the Panthers will be too much for them. The Panther offense is due a perfect game, no fumbles, no penalties, no punts just TD’s at the end of every drive. :D :D :D

Navasotas defense isnt thats strong. Thier chance to win is not stopping LH offense because they cant. No one really has. They can only win by out scoring LH and that wont be easy since the LH def is very good. LH will need to cough the ball up a few times for Navasota to have a solid chance. It would need to be a high scoring game for them.

Ott, # 1 (CB) had two interceptions last week against Carthage. Either he or Turner, the other corner, usually have pretty decent coverage on anything 20-30 or so (I'm guessing here) yds out. The safeties do a good job and have good speed.  Several of the guys in the secondary run relays in track, along with one of our Guards.

Hard hitters that played tough last week. They will be ready to play.
From the come back last week, Navasota obviously has alot of heart and will not give up, thats one stat you cant measure with numbers, Navasota has it with out question
That being said, I dont see this Panther team losing a game this season, they should finish with a win, they are that good. Even making mistakes like the fumbles last week, it was never close.
LH will give Navasota a ton of respect and play them like they are the best team in the state, that is the only way to win this time of the year (period).
Navasota has alot of class and great posters, I hope for a good, injury free game, however, Im rooten for a LHHS blow out.....:D

If I said they were average I'd be telling a lie. Ott #1 leads the team with 7 pics. Turner#20 follows close behind him....he has returned 2 for scores...the one last week was a 89 yarder. Cole #35 has a few. The secoundary has probably 15 total.

I'll be honest...we don't have any stellar athletes in our secondary, but they play pretty sound football, are good tacklers, and there are a few who will come up and put a lick on you. They don't get caught out of position very often and they've gotten a lot better as the season has gone on...kind of like last year. Our coaching staff does an excellent job of mixing up coverages, disguising coverages, and having our guys in the right places. We're typically pretty good at pressuring the QB, as well, which helps our pass defense tremendously. We didn't blitz near as much against Carthage as we have against other teams, but when we did, it forced bad passes, some of which resulted in ints.
RattlerDude
11-29-2007, 11:21 PM
Disguising coverages only matters in college and the NFL when the quarterback is actually trying to read the defense. In high school, the quarterback is only looking at where the secondary is. I don't think any quarterback actually tries to determine zone or man or cover 2 or anything like that.
