Sweetwater vs Snyder
Topped off when the "Stangs won # 500!"
I have worked with and known lots of tiger fans and it has been a blast. There have been flags flown, offices's decorated, and other things placed at the the team that lost that years home and work (fans and co-workers).
I do have one question? Does anyone from somewhere else than Snyder know the tiger fight song?
It is from a famous commercial on tv.....
"Meow, meow. meow, meow, meow. meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow"
Meow Mix!
Sorry, but this nearly had one guy fired, but it was all in fun, good sportmanship and respect.
That is what Sweetwater and Snyder is all about!

Fairfield and Mexia in basketball the tickets to this Tuesday's game in Mexia went on sell Tuesday and Wednesday to player parents Thrusday to the students and Monday (tommorow) to the general public. Problem for the general public the tickets sold out on Thrusday. This has to be the best rivalry in hoops in Central Texas.

Panther Power...who are the panthers?
1A- Thrall vs. Thorndale: Both towns are 5 miles apart and district rivals. Just about everyone is related to each other in some way or fashion!!! Thrall FINALLY beat T-dale in football for the 1st time since 1988 this past year. From fights with baseball bats to a Coke bottle incident that can't be discussed on this public board!!!
2A- Rogers vs. Rosebud Lott: District rivals for years. Alot of bad blood. It always seems to come down to these 2 teams for a playoff spot or championship. I remember for at least 3 years in a row recently that they played each other for the District Championship and eventually have to play each other again in Regionals. 3 years ago I went to their Regional Championship game in Waco. R-L QB/DB Parcus was a stud standout for them. I remember before half he returned an interception 105 yards for a TD as time ended!!! He made some very impressive moves!!!
3A- Hutto vs. Cameron Yoe: This is a new rival that is getting intense very quickly. It all started in 2004 when Hutto ended Cameron's dreams for a perfect 10-0 season by beating them at home 38-35 with a last second FG in OT. In 2005,Cameron returned the favor by beating Hutto at home 17-13 for the District Championship. But Hutto got the last laugh in 2005, by beating Cameron 35-14 for the Regional Championship. Can't wait for this years game!!!

my vote has to go to celina-pilot point now that they are both 3a.
when people are driving over to the other town to put blankets on the visitors bleachers to save seats on the wednesday or thursday night before the game, you have a serious rivalry.
i had a coach from central texas tell me one time that he wished they would play it on saturdays so everyone in the state could go watch.

Ingleside starts out district with their rival that they did not beat last year with the QB they have now, and they end dist. with Sinton. Sinton did lose alot to graduation but they are still Sinton, and Mitchell and crew will find a way to win.
Ingleside is truly our rival, it should be a good game. Everybody wants to win the first dist. game, and end dist. with a win going into the playoffs. Should be a areat district race this year.
I am sure as it gets closer this board will heat up.

This is not 3A but back in the 70's 4A was the big class and I think alot of 3A teams were in 4A then. The best or worst rival I have ever been around was Pampa and Borger. We were all full of piss and vinegar and crazy. One year the bulldogs stole the harvesters big liberty bell and trashed it out, so we went and stole the bulldogs maskot and hung him from the arch way going into harvester field that friday night. Oh by the way the mascot was not a real dog. I could go on and on with the stories about this rival, but to many to list. I don't think they even have a rival anymore, but it was a great rival at that time.

It's turning into one quickly as they should meet for the 3rd time in 12 months in a few weeks. If they play another reg season game next year, they could easily meet again in the same round of the playoffs with the districts aligned the way they are. That would be 5 games in 24 months.

here recently the rivalry hasn't been that great since the realignment, but the monahans-greenwood game is always a good game.

How about Graham vs. Breckenridge? A Graham football player was killed in this game back when they wore leather helmets. This year the school staffs of both schools agreed that the rivalry was so big that it would be best not to play each other this year. But needless to say that somethings going to happen to allow this historic matchup in the playoffs.

La Grange vs. Giddings
They have been playing for like 70 years or something now. Giddings has won the last 4 meetings, but before that La Grange owned them for a few years. Each team will own the rivalry for a few years, then the other team will come and dominate. They played in the state semi-finals in '01 and it was a great game. La Grange ended up winning I think it was 21-13. Earlier that year La Grange barely escaped them with a long field goal to win by 3. The two towns are only seperated by about 20 miles of highway, and the towns pretty much have had bad blood for each other in sports as long as I can remember. Every time that La Grange and Giddings play each other, no matter if it is a blowout on either side, everyone gets pumped about the game, and is always one of the most important games of the season on both sides.

I will vote for Sweetwater Vernon first.
However, now that we are 3A Celina Pilot Point is a great rivalry
that started in 1935. G A Moore was a 1957 graduate of Pilot Point and coached in both places taking The Point to 2 titles in the early 80's. He came to Celina in 88 and by 95 had his first of
5 titles there. Then in a surprise move in our first 3A season he quits Celina and goes back to Pilot Point leaving his long time assistant and fellow alum from Pilot Point Butch Ford in charge of the Celina Bobcats. Peyton Place never had it better.
The towns are only 12 miles apart. We are neighbors and have
good friends in both towns. And we play some of the most heated excited games. Lately Celina has had the upper hand but the rivalry is still awesome. We both have Orange as our main color so when G A comes to the game he does not have to worry about what he wears. And he still comes to the playoff games for the Bobcats. I sat by him or near him 3 times this season in the playoffs. The connections run deep and so does the rivalry.

Do you really think one of your coaches will admit it. Besides, All the Head coaches were at region 14 in Abilene, there weren't any assistance their. The only reason I know is because I was standing by coach Sandifer at a soccer game a couple of days after the realignment came out and I ask him why we were having to play Wimberely and How come neither Sweetwater or Wylie were playing Snyder and everybody was having to play these cross country games. He told me that both he and Jackson were triying to get Snyder to play.

I hope you don't think I was accussing Rogers of being scared, afterall he was on a two game winning streak against Wylie. I too hope they play each other next year. Like Sean Connery said in Hunt for Red October, " a revolution is a healthy thing".

I always remember something Coach Sandifer at Wylie said at a Booster Club meeting concerning a rivalry. He defined a rivalry as 2 teams and communities that have a mutual respect, as opposed to a hatred. I think about Wylie/Sweetwater as an example. In 04 when Wylie won state, one of our defensive backs broke his leg in the first playoff game and had to have several surgeries. The Sweetwater team sent this kid all kinds of stuff to his hospital room. Cards, cookie bouquets, etc. It was a great show of respect. Last Friday night before the Wylie/Sweetwater game Sweetwater was having a fundraiser pregame meal for a former Sweetwater coach's 2 yr old son who is battling cancer. I'll bet 100 Wylie fans showed up in support. Those are the kinds of things that make up good healthy rivalries that we all like to see. Unfortunately most of them we see are more of the hatred kind. But, no matter if it is a healthy rivalry or a hatred rivalry---- the games are still great!

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always heard that the Graham/Breckenridge "rivalry" got so heated and out of hand that they mutually agreed to not play anymore. Also, that the UIL made a point not to put them in the same district anymore even though they are only 30 miles apart. Is any of that correct?

I believe the first statement is correct. There were letters to the town papers from the coaches explaining their decisions. Not sure about the UIL district alignment decision.

He told me that both he and Jackson were triying to get Snyder to play.
I was not at region 14, I was in Lubbock. So regardless of who you were standing by and what was said I should know where I was. I would at least get some of the story correct. Here is the answer to the questions. We did not schedule Wylie because. We figured we would be in the same Dist. If we were not in the same Dist then we figured like you stated numbers being about the same we would be big school. That being said that would mean you would play Wylie 2 times a year. It is very hard to beat a good program 2 times in the same year. We run into the same problem here with scheduling.
As far as Sweetwater I never talked to anyone about playing before realignment came out. I as Sweetwater figured there would be no way we would not be in the same Dist. When realignment came out I did talk to an assistant (in Lubb) who was talking to the head coach who was in Abilene he offered one date after, I had agreed to play Hereford. The assistant told me this game would be the Sammy Baugh Classic and it would be great. I asked if we would have to play in Sweetwater both years and he said “YES”. There is no way I would agree to play Sweetwater in Sweetwater 2 years in a row and lose a home game. I still talked to Hereford and asked him if he had anyone else I was trying to work it out with Sweetwater and he said he had no one and was counting on the game with us. By this time I was told it was not a 2 year both games in Sweetwater deal. I did have another opening week 6 game 7 but Sweetwater had a Dist game at that time. I read this board as entertainment it is quite enlightening sometimes. I just thought I would state the facts.

Snyder already had most of the schedule set. As ctr180 stated We anticipated being in the same district with Wylie and Sweetwater. Because the year before we were in a 5 team district, the only game we had available that was not already set was a game that would have fallen during Wylie and Sweetwaters District schedule. Snyder is set to play Sweetwater next year so you get your wish. you may regret the wish next year but that how the ball rolls.

The bottom line is you gave up a home game to play Marlin twice,
once in Brownwood and once in Sweetwater. You did this to
avoid playing Sweetwater twice in Sweetwater because you
didn't want to give up a home game? That argument doesn't
hold water.
If ya'll you would rather schedule 2A schools so be it. But,
sooner or later you'll figure out what Jackson and Sandifer are
doing right that consistently has there teams playing in the
fourth round. Hint dodging quality opponents isn't it.

Both Coaches do a great job no argument here. As I stated before that game was game 3 and was scheduled in January as part of the Gordan Woods Classic it was moved to Sweetwater this year this summer as part of the Sammy Baugh Classic so this game was scheduled before realignment even came out. Marlin is also a top program when they were in 3A they only dropped this last realignment. In fact Look at there 3A playoff record. The game in questio which was our only open date was game 2 week 1. Not the next week that one already had a contract. Not trying to argue with you just stating facts.

The bottom line is Sweetwater and Snyder are 40 miles apart
and are as evenly matched as any two teams in the state at
any level. The fact that they haven't played the last two years
is simply a case of somebody dropping the ball.
We, as fans of both towns, were truly disappointed not see
each other on our schedules. If what Black Magic says is true
than this won't be a problem after realignment. Let the best
rivalry in West Texas this side of the Permian Basin resume.
On a side note if ya'll beat Brownfield, Monahans, and Vernon
and we beat Breckenridge, Bridgeport, Graham, and Seminole
we might just play this year anyway.:D

Yes, I'm a homer.
Yeah. The games between these two has lost a little intensity since Gilmer has dominated in recent years, especially after Jeff Traylor took over. Now Gladewater's high school and stadium are in Upshur County which makes it even more of a natural rivalry.

No Its not a case of that at all. I guess you dont understand the facts. He stated them clearly. The marlin game was set WAY prior to realignment . The game was moved to Sweetwater from B-wood to replace a game lost by the classic and to be moved from a Thursday night game to a Saturday game as well. Nobody believed that the two teams would not be in the same district. You cant expect Teams to trash agreements to play other teams just because of 40 miles and a few fans feelings. In any event I doubt the two meet in round 3. Would be nice:devil: but dont think it will happen. I do think Snyder will be playing in round 3 though as long as the stay focused.

cr180t said he chose to play Marlin twice rather than play
Sweetwater twice in Sweetwater. That tells me the decision was
made before he made an agreement with Marlin. He says
straight out he made a choice.
Back to what matters. Sweetwater and Snyder can only meet
in the quarters. I listed the three teams Snyder will probably
have to beat to get there. I listed four teams for Sweetwater
because if we don't beat Breckenridge it won't even matter.

Your clouding the issue. He said IF he had dumped the game ALREADY AGREED ON WITH ANOTHER TEAM to play sweetwater in the sammy baugh classic Snyder was going to have to play Sweetwater in sweetwater two years in a row. Not a good thing either way.1) You dont just dump an agreement out of convienence. 2) you dont dump and agreement with a team and agree to play your biggest rival at there place two years in a row. Your mixing the analogy of marlin with sweetwater and it does not work because of 1) time and 2) playing marling away two years in a row and Marling playing us away Two year in a row is not the same as Snyder playing IN sweetwater against sweetwater two years in a row.

When Hempstead was still in 3A, the Battle for Highway 6 was a good one with Navasota.
I don't know if anyone remembers or not but about 8 or 9 years back the Madisonville-Navasota rivalry reached a peak when Madisonville painted "MUSTANGS" on the front of the high school and horseshoes on the snake on Rattler Drive after a win.

Although it's not 3A, the rivalry between the Marshall Mavericks and Longview Lobos has been around for 96 years. I played in this one and there's NO love lost. See the link in Maxim Magazine.
It does look as though Liberty Hill and Cuero are also starting to develop a healthy rivalry.

Maybe not the best of all time. But, Wylie/Decatur is a pretty good one. Played a non-district game in 04 that Decatur won 44-7and could have been much worse. Then later that year met in the 2nd round of playoffs and Wylie won 14-13. Then, last year met in bi-district, and wylie was down by 8 due to a missed extra point with 33 seconds left. Wylie scored and went for 2 but didn't make it. Wylie executed a perfect onsides kick and drove down and kicked a 40 yarder at the buzzer to win by one again. Now, we play again tomorrow. West vs. Hillsboro- This has been our last game of district the past few years, and we have also been the thorn in their sides that has kept them from going to the playoffs. This has been a rivalry for years, but has heated up recently with the playoffs being on the line. Another one that has become of interest lately even though they aren't 3A, West vs. Waco Reicher, officially titled "The Catholic Bowl."

Whenever they had that vote to put Texas Tech in Lubbock, Snyder, or Sweetwater. Snyder recieved 0 votes I think, or thats what I heard.
Then the rival started
Someone from Sweetwater was telling me the history of our rivalry but I dont remember the year.
