Brownwood has a good D.I called it said all Brownwood has to do is score 21 it was game over.Borger O is horrible..They had 2 long runs on us that was all other than that they never moved the ball and we had a coulpe of T.O on our own 20.Another team would have put us away earley

Lets look back at all those talented years Colby Freeman days the Kirby F days yall always folded with all that talent. In Monahans we dont have talent just tough as nails if we did have some of that old Sweetwater,Brownwood talent dog we would rock 10+ titles. Big Boys you say please yall will be so average after this season. Monahans will return tons next season and we will be back again with another run so who has won more Playoff games in the last 10-12 years Brownwood or Monahans. I bet Loboes take that one right!!!!!! Dude our Program has surpassed Brownwood specially since 2005 Yall are very very good this season but after this one yall are back to normal fighting to a playoff spot. Dude

In all honesty, Shipley brought a great coaching staff when he came to Brownwood. But only after he toured the campus and watched the offseason and realized how much talent was in this group of kids! Brownwood is one of the marque coaching jobs in the state! Plus, he has family ties to Brownwood. It will take a lot to get him to leave. Bet ya didn't know that. ;)

Actually, do to the lack of needed teeth in West Texas, pronunciation of many words becomes difficult do to the tongue not having the front teeth to sharpen the ending of words, so they tend to sound like all end with an “S”. Just saying...

Throughout the postseason, Monahans has played suffocating defense, limiting any and all opponents to a few long drives, no sustained excellence, and that formula has landed the Loboes in the Class 3A Division II state quarterfinals.

A juggernaut awaits.

Ranked No. 1 in the state with all 25 first-place votes at the end of the season, Brownwood boasts the state’s most explosive offense, an unstoppable force that has produced 55.6 points per game, including an 88-point outburst in the first round against Iowa Park.

“When you talk about their offense, you don’t know where to start,” Monahans head coach Mickey Owens said. “They’re as good as any team I’ve ever seen at making you pay when you make a mistake.”

Brownwood (13-0) rode its explosive offense to the third round of the playoffs last season.

Lions head coach Bob Shipley did not have the key to his offense then. Forced to sit on the sidelines by a broken leg, quarterback Graylon Brown had to spend his junior year on the sidelines.

Brown has more than made up for lost time. Throwing to a deep, talented stable of receivers, Brown has completed 66.8 percent of his passes for 3,469 yards, 44 touchdowns and just five interceptions.

Listed at 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, Brown is no physical freak.

But he can play.

“Graylon has all the attributes you look for in a quarterback,” Shipley said. “He’s not real flashy, he’s not the type to beat his chest, but he has been effective.”

Few Class 3A quarterbacks get to work with the type of talent spread out on Brownwood’s flanks, a list that begins with Shipley’s son, Jaxon.

Ready to follow in older brother Jordan’s footsteps to the University of Texas, Jaxon Shipley has caught 66 passes for 1,359 yards, a whopping 25 touchdown catches, returned five punts for scores and a kickoff return to the end zone, too.

At 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, Shipley has his brother’s size, speed and nose for the end zone.

“He’s the best player on the field,” Seminole head coach Chris Burtch said. “Everybody wants to say it’s his size, or his speed, or that he’s pretty tenacious, but I think the thing that sets him apart is his route running.”

Burtch has tried to plan for Jaxon Shipley before.

Brownwood knocked Seminole out of the playoffs last fall. Shipley might be the most deceptive receiver he’s ever seen.

“When he runs a short route, he makes it look like he’s trying to run by you,” Burtch said. “And on a deep route, he makes it look like he’s about to break it off right before he goes deep.”

If Jaxon was the only weapon Brownwood had, then the game plan would be easy. Shift two defenders, maybe three, in his direction and take him away.

But Brownwood has plenty of other weapons. Five Lions receivers other than Shipley have caught 19 passes or more this season, led by Luke Chastain, who has 33 catches for 594 yards and six touchdowns. Running back Stehl Ratliff is averaging 8.6 yards per carry. Even Brown has 609 yards on the ground.

“We’ve been OK when people try to choose to take Jaxon out by loading people up,” Shipley said. “Normally, Graylon finds out where they’ve created a weakness.”

And then the Lions are off to the races AGAIN.
