I would love to hear some "non-homer" views of this game from people who have no dog in the fight that have seen both teams if there are any.

I'm from Monahans, but i've seen both teams a couple times and from what i can see brownwood has an outstanding offense that has scored at will all season. Monahans runs the Wing-T to perfection Mickey and his staff have they're team firing on all cylinders. Monahans' D will come up with a couple stops here and there and Brownwood will stop Monahans some. I don't think Brownwood will blow out monahans I think it will be a great game to watch, and the thing about teams that throw the ball like brownwood a few key mistakes can decide the game. Monahans is an underdog big time. but to say they don't have a chance is ignorant. Any thing can happen and as far as i know Brownwood hasn't got their rings yet...One thing about this team from monahans they have more Heart than any Team Coach owens has had they've performed well under pressure, and have improved greatly from the first of the season I Am excited about seeing a good football game. Hope everyone has a safe trip to angelo.

We were also a 4-6 team that made the playoffs barely and pulled a cinderella-esque upset over a better team.........we're not a 4-6 team....we're 13-0 and playin good football its not goin to be as earth shattering if monahans beat Bwood now, rather than Breck in 1998,

Brownwood is too strong in all aspects of the game, they win and advance. Monohans will play tough, but come up short against the Lions.

This would be 10X a bigger win for Monahans than Breckenridge. I don't care what their record is/was. This is Brownwood you are playing. A school with 7 state championships. This would be a program defining win for your school. I am in no way saying Monahans is not worthy or anything of that nature, but this game would be HUGE for their program! Bigger than '98

And, would that have been LH?

If so, we are way above a LH caliber offense. lol

I won't say either team is a poor team, I have read several post on here about cold weather ect, ect affecting Brownwood's offense last Friday. The Brownwood offense lost their focus in the Borger game, plain and simple. I would expect after the coaches are done this week you may well face the most focused Brownwood team so far this year. I wish you luck but I am afraid you got the Lions on the wrong week for an upset.

I am still somewhat puzzled why some Brownwood fans think something is wrong with the Lions' offense if they don't put up at least 60 points. I think the fact that this is Wk4 of the playoffs and the teams that are left are better, is the real reason why Brownwood isn't scoring more. Borger had a good defense---end of story. Brownwood still has the best all-around team of anyone they have played---that is why they are still playing.

Bullaholic I appreciate what you are saying but the thruth is if we would have played you guys like we played against Borger, you guys would be the ones playing Monahans this week. You guys were much much better than Borger! It is true that Borger had a decent D but we could not complete a pass. Good thing we could run the ball.

DaHop72
11-29-2010, 04:38 PM
It's as simple as this. If and I said "IF" Monahans can run the ball against the Lions then this game will not be a blow out by any means, because the Loboes will eat the clock up when they have the ball and that will limit the number of times the Lions offense will get the ball. End of story.:p :p

I give Allsups the nod.

If you can take away the burrito from Stripes, they have no other options to go to, too one dimensional.

However, if you take away Allsup's go to guy, the burrito, you still have chicken fingers, burgers, hot dogs, etc...too many weapons for Stripes to try and stop.

LOL

Well, since you asked. I had nothing to do with the 4 before or this one. So I will have to go with Okay. :D Now I do see that one of those Loboes teams tied but since a tie only counts as half a win, I guess I would have to say the record is 3.5 to .5 in favor of Brownwood. :D

For the record, Monahans will be pumped and come out fired up, no doubt. The pregame is going to be the best part of this game for Monahans. Then, from there it gets a little touchy if I go any further. Brownwood will show Monahans how West Texas football is suppose to be played. Not the ancient 3 yards and a cloud of dust scheme. Sheesh!

Don't these coaches know that the wing-t works way out West but doesn't get you out of the region anymore.

I know for a fact and this is ancient history but all 7 of Bwoods SC's were wone using the wing T and if it is run to perfection it will eat you up if you can not stop the run. That being said, Bwood will slow Monahans enough to get a big enough lead to force Monahans out of their game plan.

If you like Mexican food, I highly recommend
1) FRANCO'S. It is a little place and I do mean little. You will be fine if you are eating 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. The address is 2218 MLK. That is only 1 block off Bryant (Hwy 87) to the left if you are headed south. Turn on about 22nd st.
2) ARMENTA'S is another little Mexican place --well worth the wait at noon--very authentic specials. I don't like their non-noon menu/food. Located on S. Oaks.
3) Fernandez, located on N. Chadbourne & 8th, just off the Houston/Harte. Authentic Mexican, and HOT HOT sauce.
4) Paisano's - good Mexican on South Chadbourne
5) Blue Agave - Mexican - good atmos-located on South Chadbourne
6) Joe's Italian - located on S. Bryant and Ave M. Best Pizza in town.
7) Downtown Fuentes - consistently good.
All above close fairly early-I believe.

Open later below:
8) Cheddars -on Knickerbocker -- consistently good!
9) Chili's - located outskirts of Mall.
10) Outback, Logan's (both good)-- on Sherwood Way
Google and call for times. LOL Enjoy!

Good point. But that basically sums up my point. It's ancient and to win in almost any other area of Texas, you can't rely on the wing-t run. It works if you have kids that can execute it well, but fails if you run into a defense that is better than your offense. In this case, Brownwood has a very good (above average, Black Attack has no idea) well conditioned defense that plays and hits very hard. Then to make things even worse, add an explosive offense that is scoring 50+ points a game with ease, it's a catastrify for the opponents. There will be a lot of tackles for losses on Monahans, just wait and see. ;)

So I'll be the only person on the Monahans side wearing a LH shirt? (That would not surprise me taking into consideration that LH is in fact not one of the two teams playing at that stadium at that given moment in time).
Or will I literally be the only person on that side of the stands, period? See, your english is inadequate and is hard to decode.

Also, would it not be "neither one is playing"?

Any who....

Who can provide some statistics for both teams? It should be interesting to see the strengths and weaknesses of both teams and how they match up.

In my opinion, a definite strength in Monahans favor will be their heart. You just can't measure the importance of that. Throw in the fact that they want to win the game and I feel they are a lock for the Region I title.

LH runs the Slot T and I agree that the Wing T and a good/great defence will win a game if both are run to perfection. Tell us about the dealer for Monahans and the guards.

I would be deer hunting no matter who is playing.

Do y'all have deer out there? Better question, does grass even grow out there? Even better question, when was the last time Monahans football won their region?

But yes, Monahans is still playing football. Well, for the next 96 hours or so.... Then it'll be an end to yet another below average playoff performance.

^He's witnessed what a nasty ball control offense can do. Granted LH was and still is vastly superior in talent and know how compared to Monahans... but still, a good ground attack that throws the rhythm of the game completely off kilter can go a long ways.

We are also 172 points away from the national high school record for points in a season. Even if we win out I don't see us getting that... 57-58 points per game is A LOT to ask in the three toughest games of the year.

One record that could be reached is extra points. Ellis has connected on 93 extra points this season.... only 5 less than the state record.

I can't wait to hear all of the excuses on Friday night. When Monahans wins, these guys won't even give Loboes credit and say that the Lions lost to a better team that night. They'll make up excuses instead like "It was too cold.", "The moon was too bright that night." or "The ball didn't have enough air in it."

Brownwood may think that the Wing-T is just a running offense and that all they have to worry about is stopping our run and they will win the game. But alot of people dont know that the Loboes are averaging over 100 yards passing a game on the year and have a qb who can throw the ball. If by some chance the Lions find a way to stop the run we'll just beat them with the pass. The Loboes are not a one dimensional team. They arent the most talented team but you can bet that they are one of the most fundamentally sound teams in the state of Texas.

They arent the most talented team but you can bet that they are one of the most fundamentally sound teams in the state of Texas.

The Wing T use to be Bwoood's bread and butter back in the day. If you can not throw out of it you may as well run the Wish Bone. I would suspect that the 100+ YDPG passing you are putting up is a result of trying to keep the defense honest and if your QB can't throw the ball all the D has to do is Tee off on the run. Looking forward to seeing Bwood slow you enough to get you out of your game plan.

No one in Brownwood thinks Monahans can't throw. The key to monahans success throwing is 100% dependent on their ability to run with success. When you run the ball, play action pass is yours for the taking. Think liberty hill. When they threw it was almost like a trick play. I have no clue how many yards they averaged passing a game, but it was the running that made it work.

If Monahans thinks they can win if Brownwood stops the run, you are dead wrong. My example would be stephenville and china spring this year. They were unable to run and FORCED to throw. They had no chance. This is the black hole of death rocket likes so much.

I think passing for monahans would be ill advised. 10 passes this game IMO will yield atleast 2 picks. Brownwood's DB have done it all year and I truely don't see why this game would be different. There is a reason why we have over 40 forced turnovers this year.

Highs in the mid 70's and lows in the mid 40's with little to no chance of precipitation.

That's about what I thought. I was curious because I read how snyder's coach said it's hard to score without the ball. Well it's hard to win the game if you score 1 out of 8 times lol. Give a lot of credit to Monahans D here.

People are saying it will be low scoring because of Monahans ground and pound but if we get the ball 8 times, we could realistically score 35-42 points. That's even with the 2 8-minute drives Friday night. Just thinking out loud not saying what will or won't happen, just what could.

One of the keys to stopping the Wing-T is having good DT's and LB's. Brownwood has some of the scrappiest DT's and best LB's I've seen all year. It'll be up to how well they read the QB. We shall see.

:) Not so fast...that 10 to 10 tie in 70 went to us on penatrations I believe.
That makes it 4 and 0.

By the way we went on that year to pick up State Title #5 I think. Meeting #5 between us will be exciteing with the same results as the last 4 games. I wish you a safe trip and no injuries...but thats about all.;) :D

Historical Significance in this game is useless and for the record Monahans and Brownwood have played 5 times:

1938 7 to 26 BW
1960 16 to 37 BW
1969 13 to 28 BW
1970 10 to 10 BW declared winner
1974 0 to 35 BW
1976 0 to 35 BW

These teams have not played in 34 years, so the histrical significance has nothing to do with this game. Unless it is going to be one of those Old-Timer Alumni Games where the Beer-Guts dictate the pace of the game.

Cant over look the additional 14 scored by BW on defense or special teams, whichever it was;)

Well I heard from a birdie that supposedly BW only scored 21 pts on offense, and if that is true it sure interesting cause thats how many Monahans scored too!

Cant over look the additional 14 scored by BW on defense or special teams, whichever it was;)

but according to the monahans posters monahans seems to be a team that plays a little more soundly that Borger....

Starting to look like a 23 pt spread might be a little too much!

I hope the game is decided on the last play:1popcorn:

Good luck both teams!

Your little birdie was wrong. Sorry but there was only one score that wasn't an offensive score and Brownwood pulled the starters early in the 4th quarter. You might want to find a different birdie. ;)

Stir it up brotha! It won't matter. If you saw the lack luster effort Brownwood's offense was displaying last Friday, you would know why only 28 pts were scored by the first team in the first 3 qrts. Mostly 2nd team in the 4th qtr. ;)

Look for a much improved effort this Friday night out of the Lions. Let's just say the +22 pts for Brownwood will be a modist prediction.

What do the BW posters think about this stat i stumbled upon::confused:

Monahans held Snyder to 14 total yds in the second half

I know it was under different circumstances, but when bw and snyder played early in the year i wonder if they held snyder to 14 yds in the second half.

Lets hear it! Actually I think it was 20 yards. :p :p

1 rushing TD
6 passing TD's
1 fumble returned
1 punt return

Mustang - the fumble return happened right at the end of the half while you and I were walking over for the M&G.

Both are 0-0 loser goes home. Both teams will bring it and leave it all on the field. It doesnt matter who has the best stats.Stats dont matter anymore this far in the playoffs.Everyone is good.Throw them stats out the window. The best team doesnt always win.Its the team that plays the best that day that wins!Monahans might not beat brownwood 9 out 10 times but if they beat them ONCE that day thats all that matters!

Can we just skip Wednesday and Thursday and go straight into Friday? I can't wait for this game. This is going to be a great game and I honestly feel that whichever team scores the most points will come out with the win. :taunt: :taunt:

I'm confused with a spelling, I don't comprehend,
Webster's says Loboes don't need a "e" at the end.
A lion don't care if it's spelled wrong or right,
The wolves will come howlin', just a tad smaller bite.
You just can't come messin' with a lions den....

Lions by 17. Next week, it gets tougher....

The way I understand it is Monahans has 6 cheerleaders and
Lobos is only five letters obviously. So, they added an E to enable
each cheerleader to hold up a letter......yes seriously.

How about just adding an ? at the end. LOBOS? Wouldn't that be more logical? :D

Too bad their not the "Jackrabbits" or they could have as many cheerleaders as players on the field.
