We werent talking about history, theres about 15-20 kids that were apart of the first ring. About 10 of which that were and still are starters:devil:

But that history is never going to win the game, i never said that either. All i was saying is that we are worthy of the #1 ranking and it's dumb to say anything otherwise. Yes, right now we aren't as strong as we were last year. But obviously we are still good enough to win our games, which is something you haven't done..so i think we are okay:D For now atleast..who knows what's going to happen friday night though? Brownwood is definitly a team that poises a very good chance to beat us.

And LH was a celler dweller for a long time before then. Like we have no history at all. The year before Vance got here LH went 2-8, his first year here we went 5-5 with pretty much the same talent. Ever since it's only gotten bettter.

We've had some good teams in the past. Nothing of the caliber that Brownwood has. True we were overall not very good. Most of this town doesn't remember any of our history and seems to think we just started playing football around 2004. That is not the case. Firstcat knows all about our history. She was there too. We also have had some talented players in the past. Most of which were related to Firstcat:D . We just didn't always harness this talent in an effective way.

I don't fail. You ask and you shall receive. LH has been to the playoffs for the last 6 seasons. At least 2 rounds deep. Vance's 1st year in LH the Panthers were 5-5. The next 2 years they were 9-0 going into the district finally against Burnet where they lost each year.
The 1st year in the playoffs the Panthers went 1-1.
The 2nd year they went 2-1 in the playoffs.
The 3rd year the Panthers went 4-1.
Then in 05' the Cats went 3-1.
Then...well we all know what happened in 06'...5-0...State Champs.
Then in 07' they had to outdo the 06' squad and go 6-0...and win yet another State Championship.

The last decent play-off run (pre-Jerry Vance era) was in 1984, under the tutelage of Coach Charlie Braun. We were the Area Champions that year and got beat out at Regionals.
After that there was a bit of a down-swing in LH Football and upswing in Basketball where we went to the STate Tournament several times.
Since Coach Vance arrived 7-8 years ago, the first year was pretty much a draw, not great and not horrible, but that was a building year. Then every year after was better and better we started out winning bi-district, then area, then got beat out at 1/4 finals by Cuero, then outed by Jasper at the Semi's, and then our two State Runs. There's you some LH History, maybe not Spot-On Accurate, but pretty darn close.

One of which, I am proud to say was inducted into the Tarleton State University Hall of Fame the same weekend we beat Abilene Wylie!

Another thing i've noticed:
Brownwood ran 41 plays against La Vega for 14 points and ran 52 plays against Stephenville for 28 points.

I have a hard time believing that Brownwood is going to get this many offensive attempts on Friday night:thinking: This just reinforces my claim that i said earlier in the thread about how Brownwood is going to have a very hard time against another ball controlling offense.

I would not equate the two. Cove and LH are not the same. LH doesn't rely upon one kid to handle the offense like Cove did. SO when you late hit LH's QB, it will not make a difference. I doubt any LH kids will get ejected also. Like Cove's did.

Also B-wood is missing some key parts from last years team....such as a certain FS who is now at Early. I saw the Cove game last year and he made some HUGE plays vs Cove.

All told, I KNOW Cove would like another shot at B-Wood.

Last year we had a decent defense, we just couldn't pull it together on offense. This year it is the other way around. Wylie gave Liberty Hill fits and if that is so, I see Brownwood doing the same thing and worse, much worse. Neither team can brag about defense, and they aren't and I understand that LH will do their best to make their offense their defense. We will see how all that plays out. It makes sense on paper, but the game can and will probably go a whole nutha way.

Brownwood is hungry for a win. It should be a great game and atmosphere. Regardless of who wins, this game will accomplish a purpose and that is preparing both teams for District.

I do hope your team is understimating our defense as much as you are. But I must believe that they are a bit more intelligent than that...Have you ever seen Liberty Hill play? Why don't you ask the Wylie Offense that scrambled on the goal line for four downs and was denied by a Thundering Wall...on more than one occasion! Ask the Manor Mustang offense that was sliding, as if in to home plate, just to keep from getting hit by one of our D-Backs!

Your references to the "circus offense" are getting old as well! Our offense is well executed and quite complicated. Ask the referrees who have blown our plays dead because THEY were watching the wrong back, while the ball was headed down field!

But, upon further thought, I think I realize why you keep saying "circus"...maybe it is because of that fearful vision you keep having of lions jumping through little hoops while we crack the whip!

The score didn't truly reflect what took place on the field...fewer panther mistakes and some less over-eager flag throwing on several trips into our red-zone, and the score would have been much more lopsided. But then that is High School Football, and on any given Friday...well, you know.

While I agree with you for the most part. The score was 28-12 with 9 minutes left in the 4th. So Wylie's halftime adjustments didn't really start to take over the game until then. Also since you watched the game how many blitzes did you see us run?

I couldn't tell you, I was watching the secondary and commenting to LHPM that it seemed to be the weak part of your team but that it would give Coach Vance something to work on since he probably didn't want the boys to think that they had nothing to work on after 2 games. I agree with you 100%. The key to our secondary is the pressure on the QB. One reason why Wylie was successful passing was we did not put much pressure on the QB. We blitzed one time and they burned us on a screen play. After that Coach Vance went very conservative on defense. He even said so himself after the game. He felt the defense wasn't ready to handle any complicated packages. Not making excuses because Wylie is a very well coached and extremely talented team.

That blown coverage I think you are refering to happened when our starting free safety came out of the game for two plays. It took one play for Sandifer to see this and he immediately attacked the deep middle of the field. And he ofcourse burned us for a TD. That was a prime example of what type of coach Wylie has.

Now back to our defense. I agree that if we have a weakness it is the secondary. As they get more comfortable and as our defense gets more comfortable up front, we will be just fine. As long as we can get pressure on Brownwood's QB we will be fine. If we cannot get pressure and we allow him to pick us apart. Then we are talking shootout. That is when the game gets real interesting. Pressure will be the key to this game for us.

I said something along the lines of "go out and beat La Vega and Liberty Hill and you will find the board a lot more respectful towards Brownwood". All we've heard is talk so far. I'm not what you would call a LH fan, but they have performed so far, and it's hard to argue with where they are. Talk's cheap. :)
