Don't forget 07...85 points through 6 games and only 10 to Alvarado. Wasn't Dixon coaching then? 2004-2007 were some pretty good defenses for Stephenville. Stephenville spent a good chuck of those years ranked in the top 5 in 4a in that time span.

Yeah but we only made it past the 2nd round once out of those 3 years. We also didn't have a schedule thru the first 6 games that included three top 10 teams including 2 top fives.

I really hope people keep thinking the Wardogs are just average to below average.

It was a good game and The Alvarado JV is a good team. They were coached well and played hard and mistake free football for the most part. Stephenville had a crucial turnover on a long pass that was fumbled as he was trying to score and Alvarado drove the lenght of the field to score. Stephenville did not convert on its 2 point attempt. All the kids played hard on both teams. I did not see anyone hurt other than 1 players from Alvarado hurt his back and had to ice it down.
Alvarado brought a bunch of players for a JV they must not have 2 JV teams.

It's Game Day Indians!!

Here's the short version

Alvarado offense:
Run the Power I smash mouth pound it out clock chewing style of offense behind a strong good sized O-line with very capable RB's, Thunder and Lightning. Execute it very well. Well enough to make long time consuming drives to keep the ball out of the Jackets possession and make it a close game at halftime. Just 1-2 mistakes by the Indians on offense or 1-2 stops by the Jackets defense could set the Indians back far enough point wise to play from behind the entire game.

Alvarado defense:
Physical good sized D-line and LB's they play fast and fly to the ball. The defensive secondary is average at best against the pass and will have to rely on the D-line to create pressure on the QB. The D-line will bring pressure through the line of scrimmage to try and disrupt any consistency by the Jacket offense. They must key on Jones and hold him in check or sacrifice a quick 5-8 play scoring drive. Overall the defense is very solid, tackles well and will play hard to the whistle.

Stephenville offense:
Run a power spread single/tandom back quick strike high octane style of offense behind a strong good sized O-line with a very capable dual threat QB, a solid RB and 4 very capable WR's. Execute it very well. Well enough to score on any given possession and keep the game out of reach with good play from the Jacket defense.

Stephenville defense:
Physical good sized D-line and LB's that play fast and fly to the ball. Even though stat wise the Jackets have given up more rushing yards they have a very capable defense against the run. The defensive secondary is above average in speed on the corners and a very solid FS. The D-line will bring pressure up the middle and edges to slow the Indians rushing attack. 1-2 key stops by the Jackets defense will open up windows for the offense. The key is stopping the Indians Thunder and Lightning and forcing the Indians into a 3rd and long passing situation. Overall the defense is very solid, tackles well and plays hard to the whistle.


Defensive play is key to success for both teams. The defense that trumps the oppositions offense the best will win this game. The Jackets defense has to stop 1-2 drives from Alvarado, and they have a very good chance of blowing this game wide open.

Example: This isn't to compare the teams themselves but the styles of offenses and defenses.
2010 Brownwood vs Monahans Regional Final game. Monahans ran a power running style offense that took alot of time off the clock. Brownwood ran a power spread style offense that could score on any given possession. Score was very close at halftime. Monahans controlled the possession game the first half. Second half, Brownwood made a couple of key stops and Katy bared the door! Forced Monahans out of their style of offense and the route was on.

This is what I'm expecting. Close game at halftime and with the Jackets making 1-2 key stops in the second half to pull ahead for good.

Good defensive game so far. Alvarado have some success running the ball. 18 play scoring drive ate up some clock. Penalties costing the offense.

Ville offense is as expected. Looks like they can bust one at any time. Ville success has been short passes to backs eating up yards. Alvardo defense bending but not breaking so far. Penalties costing defense as well.

11 (McNeil) was hurt for most of the second half. He is a gamer and stayed out there on defense. I'm sure Dixon would have used him more if he wasnt dinged up. Kicking game is getting old. We give up field position on every kick off and can't make extra points consistently. 2 of last three games we lost could have been won if we can just kick an extra point. Just kinda unlucky not having someone who is consistent. Most games it doesn't matter but playoff time it sure could.

Villes pass to the flat is flawless. The backs catch the ball in stride. Heck I don't see many pro teams execute that play that well. It was the difference maker tonight. We shut it down pretty well but for that. Your gonna need some very fast linebackers to defense that offense.

I am very positive about our chances in the playoffs. We still have a tough game in Glen Rose next week that probably is a toss up at this point. This is good however as we will be tested going into the playoffs.

We give up field position on every kick off and can't make extra points consistently. 2 of last three games we lost could have been won if we can just kick an extra point. Just kinda unlucky not having someone who is consistent. Most games it doesn't matter but playoff time it sure could.

Villes pass to the flat is flawless. The backs catch the ball in stride. Heck I don't see many pro teams execute that play that well. It was the difference maker tonight. We shut it down pretty well but for that. Your gonna need some very fast linebackers to defense that offense.



I am very positive about our chances in the playoffs. We still have a tough game in Glen Rose next week that probably is a toss up at this point. This is good however as we will be tested going into the playoffs.

I thought it was closer than it should have been. Turnovers killed Ville tonight. Should have scored 14 to 17 more points. Alvarado has a real good team but not much better than Glen Rose. The special team for Alvarillo is below average we started on the 40 almost every possession. I would not want to be going in the playoffs With that kicker. The D is good and the backs are good. The QB and receivers I thought played hard but were nothing special. Glen Rose has advantage in that area for sure.

Both teams made momentum changing mistakes... More so for Stephemville IMO.

The great TD saving play on the ball that the DB from AV made from a deep pass from Jones to Gunter. Had that ball been thrown an inch deeper, TD Ville.

The fumble on the 1 yard line? Huge momentum swing. The fumble Westbrook had in AV territory on a drive where Ville had the momentum? Ville left 14 points out there easily.

Same thing for Alvarado. Missed flea flicker that was thrown a foot too far. That would have went for 6. At least one shoe string TD saving tackle for tge Ville that could have went for a TD. Both teams missed opportunities. Like I said before, the Ville could afford a few more. Once AV got behind by 2 scores, they had to change their style of play and couldn't catch up.

Props to both teams for hard hits, good line play and executing their offenses.

I was really impressed with AV's QB, RB's #8 and #11 and the TE #88. Defense #51 and #99.

It almost worked out the way Alvarado needed this to go. A couple of big turnovers and a perfect game from Alvarado could have won this. Very nerve racking every time Ville had the ball. I don't see you guys losing unless you beat yourselves. Good luck the rest of the way.

Not sure about 90 (Vanderhof). He was injured before that kickoff happened. McNeil (11) also looks dinged up. Shoulder or collar. He stayed in and played tough.

#90 is not only a leader on varsity..he's a leader for the whole program..i know my son looks up to him, he is always encouraging the young guys in the program..not only verbaly but, by example too..i really hope he is ok.

It was closer than expected, but it was still a sweep as Stephenville (24-16, 8-0) raced past host Alvarado 25-18, 25-21, 25-18 to complete a perfect run through District 7-3A Friday.

The Honeybees, winners of 12 straight, have earned a bye in the opening round of the playoffs. Their district bye comes as other teams complete the regular season, so Stephenville is facing San Angelo Grape Creek, a team they swept early in the season, in Bangs at 6 p.m. Monday.

Stephenville won 24 of 25 sets in district play. Glen Rose was the only team to force a fourth set when the Bees visited the Lady Tigers in their 7-3A opener.

Friday's win featured 39 kills by Stephenville, 10 of them from Sheridan Stokes. Kristin Kaiser and Dani Huckabee landed nine and eight kills, respectively, while Natalie Tiner and Leslie Billings each added two.

Huckabee served up five aces on her way to a team-best 13 points. Stokes and Kaiser each finished with 10.

Stokes made it a double-double with 10 digs. Tiner led the team with 13 while Kaiser also had 10. Huckabee had seven, and so did Chrislyn Wells to go with 17 assists. Tiara Green had 12 assists and five digs.

Tiner had three solo blocks and a block assist to lead the defense at the net.

After facing Grape Creek, the Honeybees will visit Granbury in a playoff warm-up match at 3 p.m. next Saturday at James Waan Sports Complex.:cheerl::cheerl::cheerl::cheerl::cheerl:

Penalties and mistakes are a huge factor in this years team. Not a big problem facing lesser teams, but we cant afford it while playing high caliber teams like Stephenville!
Coach Dixon needs to light a fire under some butts and get this handled, or the post season will be a short one.! It will be kind of funny seeing you sport that "Football Momma" bling!



Stephenville will need the next 3 weeks to heal up, can wrap up the DC against Venus. Jackets left Alvarado in the game longer than they should have and the Indians almost took advantage. Indians fired as many arrows as they could and just ran out. You guys will be just fine come playoff time.

I hope that none of the Jackets were banged up too bad! Great team! I hope they can stay healthy!

The kicking game is crucial in your style of play. In my opinion Missing extra points and not being solid on field goals is a killer. And just as important is the punts. I have not seen a punter shank that bad all year and he did it over and over. Not the best odds in winning close grind it out style games. Better hope it gets better or your done and going home early.
