Of course I'm biased; I'm very biased toward Carthage; that's what makes me a fan. Not sure why you put that in quotes, because it wasn't part of my posts.
BTW, I heard something completely different that both of you guys. I heard that a certain stadium promoter threatened both coaches with bodily harm unless they played at Royse City, and they chose SMU knowing that he refused to show up there.
I'm keeding, I'm keeding....a lot of folks probably didn't see those posts at the beginning of the week and don't get the joke anyway....

There will probably be a 4 man race for QB in the spring. Hopefully one will step up the commitment to football and lead the next group of hungry leopards!

How good is Graham's front seven? They'll need to play lights out to have a chance against what I think is probably one of the best 3A offensive lines of all time.

This thread is actually pretty funny to read. Carthage is the best line of all time in 3a.....they are the strongest in this, best in that...
do they crap silver dollars?
Notice something else...the poll at the top of the page...pretty close don't you think....evidentally some people think Graham has a shot...

That is because all 92 people in Graham with a computer have voted.
Seen video, Carthage is good....but not exactly what I expected. Ill just leave it at that.
Side note: How did La Grange make it that far? Region 4 Div II must have been weaker then I thought.
Side note #2: Mexia let Carthage off the hook, they REALLY needed a kicker

That's just it, they aren't as advertised. Yes, they played 4a teams, but look at the record of those 4a teams, pathetic.
and 92 people with a computer in graham? Ya'll think we're nothing. A bunch of rednecks without internet? Well then as someone said last week on the gilmer poll.

IMO, the '09 team's Senior offensive line gives them the edge over '08.
The o-line was obviously good last year, but it sometimes took the freakish talent of Mr. Smith to turn what looked like a five-yard hole into an 80 yard juke-and-go. If he ran behind this year's line, it really wouldn't be fair. Of course Carthage would like to still have him, but...
...the o-line has stepped up their game to the point that the skill positions operate that much more efficiently around them.
The very talented O'Bryan Washington takes yardage in big chunks while QB Morgan is able to run through multiple reads to pick defenses apart. So..losing him has been minimalized. Losing him in the middle of last year might have been the end of the run, but this year's offense executes so well that they don't seem to miss him.
Here's a question for YOU. Only saw the final scores, but it looks like your Bulls gave Graham all they wanted both times. What was it that kept you guys from getting past them?

CARTHAGE, TEXAS (KLTV) - With just one more win, the Carthage Bulldogs will stake their claim as the best football team in East Texas.
The Bulldogs will play in the 3A Division II title game on Saturday against the Steers of Graham High School.
They will also be playing the McCoy family, yes, that McCoy family, the father and younger brother of Colt McCoy.
"We knew that Colt would be there coming off the Heisman trophy presentation last week," said Carthage head coach Scott Surratt, "I know he didn't get it, but he was there. I think that's pretty cool."
Some of the players, not so cordial towards playing the McCoy family.
"Because it's the big name McCoy versus little Morgan that nobody knows about," said quarterback Anthony Morgan, "I just want to demolish them. I just want to beat them and beat their face in."
"I think it will be pretty cool because I'm not a Texas fan myself," said receiver Jalen Claiborne, "I'm an Oklahoma fan."
The Bulldogs are coming off a win over La Grange in the semi's, while McCoy and the Steers knocked off fellow East Texan Pittsburg.
The title game is set for 6:00 from Gerald Ford Stadium at SMU.
WOW..very classy Mr. Morgan...

Because Bridgeport was a great team. Pure and simple...
Let me throw it back to you...I was looking earlier this evening at the records of the teams Carthage played during the regular season. Did any of them have better than a 5-5 record? Most of them had losing records...so yeah...tough games..
Graham had a harder schedule against better teams.
May the best team win.

This will not even come close to fueling the fire as to what they sent to the GISD field house. Coaches really used that as some fuel last night at the pep rally. I am not going to be the first to say what they did, but I know those boys last night had fire in their eyes when the superintendent was talking about it. And by the way props to the Graham fans last night at the pep rally. I bet there was well over 500 people that showed up to raise a little cain on the court house lawn, and Coach McCoy delivered a hell of a speach!!
What did they send to the field house? If you dont want to post it could you PM me?

Thanks for the props, TBone. In all honesty, the Bulls were a very good team, but probably not a great team. Bridgeport has a lot of familiarity with Graham---they run practically the same offense and anytime you play a team twice in the same season it is very hard to win them both---Graham did, and I hope I can say the Bulls lost twice to the eventual DII state champion.
Cheers for Steers! Go win that first State Title Saturday!

First of all I am from Pittsburg and have a fair knowledge of the Steers and their offense and defense. If the Bulldogs can put pressure on McCoy then look for a few turnovers. He doesn't throw the ball as well as when he has time to stand in the pocket and pick on the weaker DB's. The Bulldogs will have better pass coverage and will be able to put pressure on the QB. That is just a fact. Credit to the front of the Steers DL. They are quick and stronger than they look but, the OL of the Bulldogs should be able to open holes that were not there in the Pitt game. It also should be noted that the RB from Pitt was playing on a bad leg....not offering excuses just stating another fact. If the RB for the Bulldogs is healthy then he should be able to hit the holes quicker than Pitt's RB. Without a doubt the Steers can be passed on and this will further open up the running game for the Bulldogs. Best of luck to both teams and I wish that I could be there.

Burns isn't the whole team, they could of pulled it through without him. But, graham always finds a way to face the adversity ahead of them, and other than the final seconds at Brownwood, they have done it. Carthage sending the funeral reef was just plain ridiculous.

Just a thought.........we all know that the only ones on here thinking Graham is going to win are homers, myself included. If Pittsburg had went on to win how whould this thread be going. My thinking is that everyone on here whould be thinking it whould be a dogfight and alot more people whould give Pitt a better chance then they are giving Graham.I keep hearing how Graham is going to be surprised and overwhelmed by the Bulldogs but I am not so sure the entire state outside of our district will be shocked at how this turns out the other way.

I just dont think you are from Pittsburg. I think somebody from Carthage created a name and is blowing them up more then what everybody else has. You would think that with Pittsburg making a deep run you would have shown your head before now, especially in a thread that has nothing to do with Pittsburg.

I think that most people would still pick the Bulldogs over us except some of the teams that we have beaten. Repeating is difficult but if you have the players I believe that it works in your behalf. I do believe that we could move the ball on the Bulldogs but they would be able to move on us. Would have been a fun game....All East Texas.

No, I am from Pittsburg and as far as showing up just now....well I believe that the less said before you play a game the better off you are. If was a difficult loss to take. After the season is over go watch the game film again between Pitt/Steers. Both had turnovers that cost them points. Take a very close look at the last play of the 1st half and the last play of the game. You won and that is the way it goes...We will be back and make another deep run next year. Maybe sometime in August we can decide when the right time to post is and isn't. Best of luck.

Everyone says that we won't match up with Carthage because their size. I don't think they get much bigger than #78 for pitt is.

Haven't said much about this but what about that backward pass that should have been called a fumble and TD that wasn't. Don't go and say anything about half-time play. It's over with move on and good luck next year to Pittsburg.
P.S. The standing behind your team at the end shows the sportsmanship that our Team has been taught....... Please pass this on to some of your posters who have shown ill will towards our team because of this.

If you have read my posts I believe that I have made it clear that the game is over and we will wait until August to play again. I don't believe that anyone took the standing behind our team as anything but what it was....but #63 coming to our stands and pumping his fists in the air and beating his chest really isn't what I would suggest to my players if I was the coach. Having said that, I still believe that the Bulldogs will win by at least 14 and maybe more. Best of luck to both teams and I hope that no player gets hurt and it should be one heck of a game.

What fine example of Malevolence, Mr Morgan!! I truly feel sorry for you! You are the leader of your Team, and you should lead by example!!! If this is what you call leadership, I hope and pray that you have a Mutiny on your hands, and that your team holds themselves to a higher standard than you!! One of the great things about high school football is how a town can get behind each other and come together over a game. It is a game but what a game!!! Maybe it is time for all of us to tone down and let the coaches coach and the players play. Most of these kids are 16-18 yrs old and they all have some more lessons to learn in life, as we do no matter our age. Support your team and yell loud....this is the last game of the season. Best of luck again to both the Bulldogs and the Steers. My last post until August since someone took offense of me posting so late in the year!!! j/k I really don't care. Unless, the Steers win then I will come back and give props. Don't think so....have fun and come home and enjoy the holidays!

Its a diversion sent by someone from Carthage. They want to get fired up over that? No, they want to make us look no so classy. That would be a waste of time and money. Why would we retaliate to what Carthage has done that is so immature. They send a funeral reef to our locker room. They call us crackers on the radio. Then the quarterback says he's going to beat our face in. Just play the game. Your the defending state champs. Your supposed to represent the state of texas. It'll catch on, and it will all be chaos. And I would agree with you, especially if you had simply made your point in a mature manner. But to viciously attack a 17 year old High School kid via an internet forum says exactly what about you? Notice I didn't say Graham; this one is squarely on you.
I don't know what type of moderators are on this site, but if the other threads are also full of adults attacking High School athletes with this type of verbage, then it has no place being on the web, nor do you.
A lot worse will likely be said just before kick-off in both locker rooms; at least it has been that way for decades in the locker rooms I've been in. Is the battle cry "let's give 'em four quarters of he!!" a morally corrupt or criminal statement? What about wnen half of the coaches in the UIL scream "let's play four quarters of smashmouth football!" just before the game? Are you praying for them too? Hope so; prayer is good.
How about "let's step on their throat and never let up" or "let's knock their dobber in the dirt" (old school one).
Anthony's emotions got the best of him at an inappropriate time and place, and he's learned from it. Part of life for a teenager is also seeing good and bad examples in adults, but don't worry, Anthony is surrounded by people that will point out to him what they feel is appropriate or inappropriate without attacking him, so he'll be just fine.

He's a kid. He's fired up beyond belief. Who knows...he might of said it with a chuckle in his voice or with his teeth clenched, kind of like Dick Butkus or John Madden did many times. Don't take it too personal...I am sure he read it and probably didnt mean it the way it came out in print.

I understand where your coming from, and yes I probably should have just let it go. But I, we, Graham, have listened to all this McCoy this and McCoy that bad mouthing all year! I have said it before and I'll say it again, Pump your team up, be loud be proud!!! There is not a bigger Drum beater in the bunch, But don't make it personal!!! Their QB could have said anything about Graham, the Steers, the fans...etc. No problem!! I'm sorry if I offended anyone, by taking up for our QB, but dang it, somebody needed to! We have endured lot's of trash talking about Graham all year, we can't this and that, I don't care about all that. The Steers put the trash in the can, and W's in the books!! But it just gets old hearing people drag our QB and his dad through the mud because of what???? Something his son and brother did or didn't do?? That has nothing to do with this game or them. They just make for a nice whipping post!! How many posters feel our Qb was out of line for running down the field holding up his hand with the were #1. It was several I know that for a fact, they posted it all over this forum!!! Did the fact that he is also a high school student, keep any of them from posting how "classless our QB is", no it didn't!! And I feel bad now because I have lowered myself to their standards.

Going to go ahead and give my final thoughts because I will probably be to wired in the morning. Carthage is the defending state champions as we are all aware of. Only 1 team can take that away from them at this point, and thats Graham. As I have stated the last 2 weeks DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS. Graham has went out and proved the last 2 weeks that their D can flat out shut u down. And I truly believe that will happen tomorrow night. There is hardly anyone in the state of TX that believes that Graham can win this game but the Graham team and its fans. If we can play the type of ball tomorrow night that we are capable of, Graham will be the new STATE CHAMPIONS! We will have to score early and let the defense set the toan early by laying the wood! With that said, safe travels to all and lets see one tomorrow that people will talk about for years to come!!

Their web site only lists webcasts for the 4A Div I and II games.
Both 5A games and the 4A Div II game are televised.
Strangely, that means the 4A Div II game is on TV and is being webcast at the same time, but no love at all for 3A Div II.
3A Div I game didn't have to compete with other championship games going on that evening.

I was at that game and a hell of a game it was. I have a customer who's kids go to Celina and I was telling him all week about Dwight Smith and what an awesome running back he was and the Carhtage team as a whole. During the game I sat on the Carthage side and he sat on the Celina side. We text back and forth during the game. I laughed my butt off at some of the text he was sending me. He was stunned by Smith and the show he put on. I tried to tell him --- just like you and I have tried to tell the Graham posters --- but he like they, just didn't listen. Graham is in for a show tonight.

This kind of stuff is classless and you would never see this from a young man in Graham...the coaches would see to that. Also, rumored in hooterville is that someone from Carthage sent the Graham ISD a wreath that said RIP saw em off. In addition it does not take much research to find posters on certain east texas websites that state they want to get McCoy hurt.  This may not be the consensus of the whole town but things have started to add up so I believe and predict a whole lot of personal fouls from the Red dogs tonight. Whether they are called or not will be seen.
My wish for every game I see is for both teams to play with no turnovers, no injuries, and no dirty plays so when the dust settles you know who stepped up and played with their heart and soul and left it all on the field and can be crowned State Champion.
You will never see nothing but class and respect from the Graham Steers and even though some may misinterpret or think it is cheesy at the end of the day that is really what sports and sportsmanship are all about. This kind of attitude makes great young men that can step to the next level and not make troubles for their college coaches or team mates.

Let's remember that sometimes players do things that their coach would not want them to do or say. These kids are only 16-18 year old. Just a reminded that #63 came to the Pittsburg side after the last play and beat his chest with both hands and then pumped them toward the Pittsburg side. That is not a lot of class but at the sametime emotions took over and no one should hold that against the player. Play the game and see who wins.

Let's see, I will try to spell it like you guys do. I know you ain't into "areadin" and "awritin" but if you read my post, it said nothing about M, they are old news and I for one could care less. If you could read more and type less, you would see that the Graham Steers were mentioned at least twice during that post. I was pulling for Graham the night they blew out M and even more so the night they put B out by 4 points. You see you guys, lableled me as a fan of a certain team but as my name implies I am a fan of the West Texas teams. I know kids playing for Monahans, Wylie, Sweetwater, Snyder and Andrews to name a few. It hurt to watch Wylie lose and will hurt if Graham loses. But watching ole Bridgeport lose, now that my friends always goes down smoooooooooootthh. Since the almighty alperfect Bull fans own this board, I will float off into silence again. Congratulations Gilmer Buckeyes! 2009 D-1 Champions!
Congratulations to Graham and Abilene Wylie! Another pretty short list of districts that have had TWO teams play for a state championship in the same sport in the same year. I went to the game and here are a few observations:
1. Carthage impressed the heck out of me with the way they played tight and clean. Well coached.
2. Graham had 4 possesitions where they left points on the board. 2 4th downs not covereted in the red zone,a missed extra point, and the terrible call to fake the EP at the end.
3. Something happened to the Graham passing attack. It wasnt there. Did I miss something? Are they really a running team? It looked like the Carthage defense pressured McCoy but they really abandoned the pass tonight.
4. Carthage fans are classy as heck. The several I talked to said they have never been bullied like that in a game and they all felt lucky to win given Grahams failure to score max points on those 4 earlier talked about possessions. Proud of the defense that caused those 4 but lucky given the win by only one point.
5. Refs cant help but make TERRIBLE calls. The pass interference call against Graham in the endzone was the worst call I have seen in person in any high school game I have ever gone to. Props to Graham for not letting Carthage in after that free 1st down inside the 5.
6. Coach McCoy decides to leave Case on the sideline on the play that decides if you win the State Championship. One of the biggest coaching blunders I have ever witnessed.
7. Didnt feel like a State Championship game. Maybe it is the Division I or II thing but this didn't seem like the Vernon SLC games that I remember going to as a student.
8. Seems that HS football is a lot less about having one star player and much more about having seniors and good players at most every position. I think that is why the Vernon's of the world probably wont win too many more titles against growing cities who have constantly changing talent pools.

1. Equally impressed with Graham kids they fought to the bitter end.
2. Graham stopped Carthage in the Red zone 3 or 4 times with no points. Carthage has a strong kicker and I thought they should have kicked the field goal to go up 16 - 0 in the 4th qtr.
3. I think that McCoy thought he needed to keep the Carthage offense off the field and control the clock. It almost worked.
4. Carthage was lucky on D and unlucky on O. So was Graham.

If the coach had went for the tie, and lost in OT, he would be questioned. He was in a tough position and I"m sure made the call that he thought gave his team the best chance to suprise Carthage and bring home the State Championship. Although low scoring sounds like it would have been a great game to watch. Congratulations to Graham on a great season and to Carthage for another State Title. An awesome acomplishment.

Yeah...hero or scapegoat...I can see the reason to call such a play, but the percentages are very low for it...risky is not even the word for it.
But if they would have scored, we would be saying how incredibly smart Coach McCoy is. So....
Of course, Graham should not have even been in such a position...at least thats my take from reading up on the game.

Yes, the Dawgs had a lot more yards that the Steers but the Steers did make the stops when they had to.....So did the Dawgs. The only real questions of the game is why the Steers didn't try to pass more and why try to fake the pat at the end of the game? It just would have made more sense to line up and just run your best play to try to win the game.

No homer here, I am not from GRaham and yes Carthage was stopped as well a few times but twice from INT's and coming straight from SEVERAL families from CArthage they thought they were very fortunate to get away with a W.
I wouldhave gone for 2 as well but NEVER a fake XP.
I agree with the thinking McCoy thought keeping the ball on the ground would help witht he clock.
This was a tight game where I think they as equal as equal gets.

THIS! Nobody in the stadium thought they were actully going to kick the ball. If you are going to go for 2 then put your offense on the field.
Not trying to bash any kids, but you would figure that Graham could have found SOMEBODY throughout the course of the year that can kick a extra point on a consistant basis. I have said all year long that it was going to end up costing them a game and it did in the most crucial time possible.

Going for two and the win in that situation was not a good decision at all. Graham scored last ( momentum ) Graham had been solid in red zone defense ( OT's are basically red zone possessions ) that decision put the entire season outcome on one play. I have seen other decisions similiar to this, and it mostly comes from an offensive minded head coach. Go for two if you want to - by running your best play with your most talented player touching the ball, not a shift from an XP attempt. As time goes by it will be more evident that the call was not by the book and not with the percentages.

I guess one of us had a very different view of the pass interferance call. It looked like the defender pushed the WR before the pass got there. It was a good play because the reciever had position and was going to catch the pass. It ended up keeping Carthage out of the end zone.
I still can't believe they didn't get the ball in with 1st and goal from the 5. The Graham defense was scrappy and they gave the much larger offensive lineman from Carthage all they could handle.

Congrats to our boys from Graham on a heck of a season! They played their hearts out last night and proved that they were very deserving to be in the state title game. The game was a great defensive battle. Alot of fingers pointed here and there as to what we could have and should have done, but in the end Carthage wins and they deserve the credit. I personally feel that going for 2 at the end was the only thing to do, but I would have had Case in the game and let him try and make a play. There again though if we would have scored the other 3 times we were in the red zone none of this would matter. Once again I give credit to Carthage because they were as good as advertised.

Grahams kicker had missed his last 4 kicks, going for 2 was the right decision. The call following it was not the right decision

There again though if we would have scored the other 3 times we were in the red zone none of this would matter. Once again I give credit to Carthage because they were as good as advertised.
:iagree: :iagree: :iagree:
After thinking about it some more I still dont see how they thought they were going to suprise anybody with the fake attempt. First off the "kicker" who lined up to kick the ball had not kicked a extra point or FG all season long. Second the holder wasnt even the regular holder but yet your LB who you end up putting into motion.
I know this is some what off topic, but the way Graham lines up for their extra point attempts is the same way a lot of teams who run the spread do. They bring everybody to one side like they are going to run the swinging gate and then go line it up and kick the ball. In all of the Graham games I have seen in the McCoy era I had never seen the swinging gate, but I think it could have been beneficial in this situation.

Congratulations to the Carthage Bulldogs!!!! Your team played one hell of a game, and are deserving once again of the title
"State Champions". I hope all of the team are healthy, and proud of a job well done!! Ya'll have a very well rounded football team, awesome Defense, and a very focused Offense! Once again Congrats!!

Well said InmateBoss. Like I said a few days ago, the two best teams played for all the marbles. The score reflects this fact. What does next years team look like for Graham? How many starters are returning?

I read this thread a lot during the last week, but did not post...probably a good thing. I'm a diehard Carthage Bulldog fan and didn't like some of what I read; however, I want to say on this my only post...
GREAT GAME GRAHAM! You really gave us a run for the money...this was one of the most exciting Championships I've seen (even watching College and Pro...) maybe because it was our boys playing, but you really had my heart in my throat...Your defense managed to really shut down our offense and did it better than any team all year. Our defesnse had to work HARD all night to keep your guys under control. On a side note: keep an eye our #1 E. Pope...he's only a sophomore and he is gonna be something someday! And your #33 really showed what a great running back he is...I watch him drag #43 Deaton down the field and thought he was gonna drag him into the endzone! and Kyle is TOUGH... So, props to your team, your coaches and your fans! You are a class act at the game even if some of your posters aren't always on the message boards...but hey, our fans don't always show it on message boards either! Congratulations on a great year!
For those of you who didn't believe Carthage had what it takes...well, BACK2BACK championships should put any rumors to rest that we are the real deal... It wasnt a pretty win, it wasn't a blow out, but a WIN IS A WIN! and this one counts! GO DAWGS!!

The only real questions of the game is why the Steers didn't try to pass more and why try to fake the pat at the end of the game? It just would have made more sense to line up and just run your best play to try to win the game.
Why didn't the Steers pass more??? You didn't go to the game did you!!! We went with what was working!! The Carthage defense, kept us from passing more!! Plain and simple!! They were like fleas on a stray dog ( no pun ) they were everywhere!!
I could sit here and woulda, shoulda, coulda, but I'll stand by posts, when the clock runs out... 1 might as well be 100 it goes in the books as a"W".
I am not trying to stir anything up but I have a honest question to those directly involved in the Graham program. Was there nobody else in the school who could kick an extra point? Graham had struggled with their kicking game all season long and had not attempted to kick a FG until the playoffs due to the inconsistancy in their kicking game. I would figure SOMEBODY on campus could kick a extra point/FG on a consistant basis.

I have to disagree with this. Graham tried to stick to their game plan by trying to test them deep over and over. If you look at any previous film the Carthage safetys first steps are backwards and to the sides to prevent the deep ball. The short routes and stuff over the middle was open, but they didnt decide to take advantage of that stuff until after halftime.

I too thought our D did a fine job and made a heck of a stand when we need it!! As did ya'lls!! Wish we would have won, but it was still a killer game. I said before the game I hoped it would be down to wire, so that I would know that both teams were leaving it on the field!!! I got that part of my wish, 50/50 not bad!!

I like how you run off at the mouth with no factual substance to back you. Look at the film, as any coach will tell you the film doesnt lie.

I was talking to Inmateboss, and it is true. If he would go back and look at the video of the state game as well as several previous games by Carthage he would see what I am talking about....but that would make too much sense for him to comprehend.

Second the holder wasnt even the regular holder but yet your LB who you end up putting into motion.
Quote above from ZRO
Z-RO Not sure the above is correct? Number 8 held last night for the first extra point. Held during warm up also...........I believe he was the holder and threw the kicking tee out of the way.......Wasn't he their receiver on right side?

Oh now come on. It was a jump ball and there was NO PUSH at all. Not trying to punk you here at all but it was right in front of me and the other 1000 or so at that end and it was 100% a jump ball where there was ZERO contact to push the other player way from either player. It was 100% a jump ball. Worst call I have ever witnessed.

Yes it was the same holder that we have used all year long. He threw the tee then went in motion to left side.
For some reason I thought it was Hiser, my mistake. But that kicker for sure had not seen any action kicking the ball for extra points/field goals all season long.
Not trying to beat a dead horse or anything, but if you are going to use the holder to just block why not put somebody bigger in there to block?
Regardless Grahams kicking game finally bit them in the butt. Its not funny, but that is the difference from being called state champions and state runners up, I feel bad for those kids.

Hiser was the one set up to kick the ball, and no I do not believe he tried any extra points. I feel bad for them as well, but they should hold their heads high, as no one expected to make it this far!!

Not for sure Wimbo, we were a little senior heavy this year but we have some real studs in the ranks. We should be fine for the next 2-3 years, thats about as far back as i can tell ! It's good we have a long break, I'm just drained!!! And my son is just a freshman!!:D
