I was only going off of the article, a couple of pages back, about how Sinton was successful against Pearsall in the bad weather. I don't have other info or knowledge about how they will perform. I do know that Sinton's QB is the real deal. I saw that last year. But my statement about LG, was that the QB/Rec will have to play better in the cold/wet than they did against Bellville, to win this one. I also said that if they don't, the defense will have to play good to win this one too. I think that can be said of both teams, but I personally saw #9 play an unspectacular game against Bellville. He either played uninspired, felt the pressure, or the cold got to him. He obviously played alot better against others than he did Bellville.

I was at the Sinton/Royal game; Sinton made the plays and Royal did not. Royal made a couple of mistakes that hurt them. Sinton's receivers caught almost everyball thrown to them. A few of the catches were made with pressure in their face. Sinton's outside LBs played very well against the run. If Royal scores in the red zone in the first half and the second half, it is a different game. Sinton played with alot of passion and fire and threw out the kitchen sink at Royal. Royal played very hard but a couple of turnovers hurt their cause.

Good luck to both teams; should be a hell of a game!

It is what any team would try to do but we will see which team can do it. Devine tried to run the ball on us, when our defense totally shut them down they tried to pass which also worked in our favor. 3 INT's, just stating that it is nice to know we can run the ball if a defense shut's down our passing game. It will be interesting to watch our defense's line not have to worry about the run if you do pass and pass some more, just pen them ears back and get after the QB.

I was also at that game, I would give Bellville's defense and the field alot of the credit for the way we played offensively. It was definitely one of those night's that #9 did not have one of his best night's, that happens. Come Saturday night and you will see the real #9, the real deal not 1 game opinion. 86 receptions for the year has to say something.

Sinton averages over 100 yds a game rushing so they do mixed in some.

I didn't see anything on scoring offense. La Grange averages 35.9 points. Defense gives up 18.3. What are sinton's stats?

Good to hear the game will be played Sat night instead of in the snow and ice. I for one was concerned about driving in those conditions. Many drivers in this state, especially young ones and those driving Dodge Rams, think they are invincible and drive foolishly. Add in some sleet and ice and you get a recipe for disaster. LA GRANGE — A group of Leopards who give La Grange its offensive identity gathers every Wednesday night for a spirited game of football.

"We talk a lot of smack," quarterback Josh Schneider said.

The smile on the senior's face indicates it's all in fun, but pride's also at stake during the weekly NCAA football tournaments on an Xbox 360.

"All we do is basically meet up at different places, eat, laugh and joke around," junior wide receiver Brandon Wilkerson said.

The players call it "receivers night," and the location rotates. Schneider is invited because he's largely responsible for an electric passing game that has helped carry La Grange to the fourth round of the state playoffs.

The Leopards hope to keep their season alive Saturday, when they face Sinton in a Class 3A, Division II quarterfinal at Rutledge Stadium in Converse.

La Grange won state championships in 1975 and 2000 and was a finalist in 2001. The seeds for the success of this year's team, though, were planted after the Leopards (11-2) missed the playoffs last year.

Coach Wayne Walker said his 2009 team has been motivated by last year's finish. With only a pair of close losses on their slate — against Sealy (38-31) and Giddings (36-32) — the Leopards have erased last year's disappointment, while outscoring their three playoff opponents 131-55.

Much of the credit belongs to Schneider, who has carried the offense on his thick shoulders. One of the area's top quarterbacks, he has completed 253 of 421 passes for 3,455 yards, 36 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

The receiving tandem of Wilkerson (86 catches, 1,424 yards, 24 touchdowns) and senior running back Corbin McHazlett (85 receptions, 935 yards, 8 TDs) has given opponents fits, particularly in the playoffs. Schneider has passed for 778 yards and six scores in three postseason games.

Schneider's father, Steve, has been La Grange's offensive line coach for four years. Walker said Josh learned to play quarterback by "osmosis." Josh Schneider said football is the topic of conversation at home "24/7."

The team's best athlete is Wilkerson, who's also a key member of the school's basketball team. He and Schneider were fixtures on the football field nearly every day in the summer, working on their timing. For fun, they occasionally went to the bowling alley.

"Nobody thought we would be as good as we are, but we always believed we would be this good," Wilkerson said.

Wilkerson is a big-play specialist, averaging 16.5 yards a catch, but there is debate about his most spectacular play this season.

Schneider recalled: "Against Needville, he made a huge game-winning catch where I underthrew the ball a little bit. It bounced off the defender's hand, and Brandon grabbed it and ran for the game-winning touchdown."

Said Wilkerson: "I had a one-handed snag for a 40-yard catch against Giddings, and I caught a slant and juked five people to score a 35-yard touchdown against Goliad."

Schneider also remembered how Wilkerson caught a touchdown pass on a muddy and rainy night against Bellville. It was his only scoring pass of the game, but it helped the Leopards to a 10-7 victory.

"I honestly don't think there is anyone who can cover Brandon one on one," Schneider said. "Every team has tried it, and no one has been successful."

La Grange enters Saturday night's game without one of its chief offensive linemen. Senior left tackle Weston Klessel injured a knee last week in a 36-0 victory over Devine.

Schneider said "Band of Brothers" is the motto for this year's team.

It's a commitment the team made before the season "to make a run at being state champions."

The champion of the Xbox series, though, is still up for debate.

The Leps were excited to get an extra day of work. Some Kids came over last night and I asked them what they did and they said they had a football workout, lifted weights and went through their "Bulldog" which they love. The Leopards are addicted to weights. They lift 5 days a week, run at the beach(sand pit), and do bars. They have been doing this since August. The workouts have paid off cause the Leps keep getting stronger each week.

I was actually at the game in 2000 with Forney(not on the Forney side) and watched Forney and Blanton fumble it away!! Those are the breaks and LG took advantage. They deserved to win. Marlin was the real deal and the WIND and KICKING game played a factor in that outcome. Not too many teams gets chances to play for state titles, good luck when you play. Bushland wins 2a in their Division by the way.

You mention Forney's fumble without mentioning the hit put on him by Jancek the DT that caused it. Also forgot to mention the 94 yard drive Gunn lead to get the go ahead td. Or the crucial 4th and one from our own 20 yardline with a minute left in the game that Gunn converted by dragging the cb for the needed yard. Those were the decisive plays in that game imo.

The 2000 team and this 2009 team share much in common. Both had a few stellar players but mostly very good team players with great fundamentals and a strong commitment to do what is necessary to get the win. Right now the Leps need to take care of business and defeat a strong Sinton team. I think they will show up and get the win. Go Leps, Beat Sinton, Win State.

He kicked the game winning fg with 2 secs left in the game to b eat Orangefield and advance to Marlin. He led the Leopards to their next playoff year as a senior running back/kicker/safety for an 8-3 season losing to a gifted Sweeny team in round one. An all around athlete will rise to the top early in high school.

I like playing Sinton. It's a class program with many loyal fans some of whom post outrageous and slanderous stuff on this board about our Leps LOL. Go La Grange, Beat Sinton, Win State!:D

All I can say is WOW!
Sinton deserves respect as they never gave up and almost pulled out a win. You young men have nothing to be down about as you proved how great your TEAM was. Unbelievable game and THANK YOU for a game that will be talked about for along time.:clap::clap::clap::)

good crowds on both sides. Very spirited! Whoever walked in front the Sinton side and fired up the crowd. Two words:

Just got home from the game. What a great game it was. There isn't a bit of daylight between these two evenly matched teams. Ironically it came down to the kicking game. The kicking game has not been a strong suit for the Leps in the playoffs except for tonight. Henderson made all four PATS and went 2 for 2 on feild goals while Sinton missed an extra point on its first score and latter missed a 27 yard fg. Sinton was very tough and answered the Leps each time they managed to get a lead. Harrison impressed me with his poise and the Pirate receivers managed to get in the open all night casting some doubts on the Lep secondary coverage.

Hats off to the Pirates, fans and coaches all a class act. This was a memorable game and the Leps were fortunate to advance. Now it is time to prepare for Carthage. Go Leps Beat the Bulldogs!!!

Great game Sinton folks-very solid team. You should be proud of a very fine bunch of players, coaches, fans-i love your spirit and support for Sinton.
