Terrible and no excuse!

How can something like this happen without the Yoakum coaches not knowing? Don't they check the locker room last after all the players exit??? I'm fairly certain those coaches knew something on the way back to Yoakum on the bus......they had to have known. Shame on Yoakum players and coaches......this is totally unforgiveable of them. I'll guarantee the players also had knowledge of what parties were responsible. I wonder if there will be some suspensions in order for those players in the upcoming playoff game(s). Yoakum plays Columbus this week.
BTW......I'm just assuming since it was the players that last used this locker room.....that the damaged occurred at the time they were using it. The article says there is video evidence from the security cameras......Uh Oh.
Yesterdays are gone forever and tomorrows may never happen, but today you have the opportunity to make a difference.
The article says the damage was discovered after the game Friday night by one of Goliad's junior high coaches assigned to clean up the dressing room. If the Yoakum coaches......any of them......were aware of this incident, you would have to think they should have made a call to Goliad's athletic department with an apology before the story was released in the Victoria Advocate on Monday. The article infers that no such contact was made.......that's even worse!! The only other possible explanation is that someone trashed this locker room AFTER the team AND Yoakum coaches exited.......meaning the Yoakum football team is completely innocent of any vandalism of this locker room.

Statement from Yoakum superintendent Tom Kelley:
Yoakum ISD has launched an investigation into the vandalizing of the Goliad locker room after the game between Yoakum and Goliad on Friday night. This conduct does not conform with the high standards that Yoakum ISD sets for its students. Although friendly community rivalries can be entertaining, this type of conduct has no place in interscholastic competition. Yoakum ISD will address this situation in accordance with the YISD Student Code of Conduct. Due to federal education privacy laws, the district cannot comment more specifically.
The district has offered to pay for the damage and sincerely apologizes to Goliad ISD, its administrators, employees, students and families. Yoakum ISD wishes Goliad ISD well in its upcoming playoff game.
What are the ramifications for the upcoming playoff game(s).....if any......and does the UIL have any rules in place to cover this kind of incident? What if some of the culprits of this incident were players that should have been suspended for any upcoming games and they played? What would happen in this circumstance?

I wasn’t at the game but have two nephews who play for Yoakum. I do know some of the coaches including the HC Bo Robinson. Who ever did this, will be punished severely because there is No reason for that kind of behavior. It’s good they have video so they can pin point exactly who to punish. If Bo knew of this damage he would of contacted the Goliad HC before they left Goliad, because Bo will not stand for crap like this.
Freaking disgrace. YISD will cover all expenses and those responsible will (have) be punished by the law. So sorry Goliad.
YnoT us?
It was really stupid for all kinds of reasons......but just for a football reason the chances Goliad and Yoakum will meet in the playoffs in 2 weeks is very high. That alone shows how stupid this act was......but let's face it.......sometimes teenage boys lose their composure and those male hormones go to work. I guess someone had difficulty controlling his emotions and didn't have the common sense to direct them in a different manner. He or they will pay dearly for their foolish behavior. Chalk it up to another life lesson learned.....I hope.

Of course now we are all interested to know who the culprit(s) were and what sort of punishment will be enforced. This all should occur today or tomorrow.....before Friday's playoff game with Columbus......and be made public......it's a public issue now.

There is no way this will be made public. Privacy laws prevent a school from releasing information about students. None of your business even if you think you are entitled to know. You'll just have to listen to rumors. Students privacy come first for a reason, they are a minor and schools have rules to go by. Just have to trust the Coach and Administration will handle it. Not trying to be ugly, but the world of media we live in wants INSTANT gratification and has created an atmosphere where we have some kind of RIGHT to know. Incorrect.
cui bono?
Hard to believe players from Yoakum would do this as they would have had to know they would be caught. On the other hand who benefits from this? Let's see how the investigation goes before assigning blame to Yoakum, one of the classiest teams in the region.
After reading the news report I think it could be a roving gang of renegade senior citizens.
Not sure about that in this type of scenario. It's a criminal misdemeanor......vandalism......which means Goliad ISD has every right to know the specifics of the guilty party and the punishment doled out. Besides....the player(s) name(s) need to be made public so that any suspensions doled out can be validated during the playoffs. Otherwise......where is our checks and balances system in adherence to UIL rules......especially during the playoffs?
