Default Playing with some realignment #s

Lots of talk about the UIL "fixing 3A" by putting more teams in to eliminate the open districts...basically when looking at #'s the only way I could get somewhat reasonable distict alignments along with filling all 32 districts was a range of 433-1030.....pretty wide range and doubtful it happens...just thought it was interesting..

    I've done a 5A, 4A and 3A realignment and here's what I have as ranges

    5A:2052-up
    4A: 1033-2046.5 (no schools between 2046.5 and 2052)
    3A: 433-1030 (no schools between 1030-1033)

Part of the problem I'm seeing is there just aren't enough schools in the low 1000's to fill the bottom of 4A so it widens the gap to try and either fill 3A or 4A at some point

When will you have a guess of the 1a 2a cutoff?

Is it possible that the split in 2A will actually require the bottom # being raised, and leave 3A stuck with open districts yet again ?

3A will either have open districts or the 2:1 ratio is not happening, its pick your poison

The other possibility would be to shrink 3A down to 16 districts (with zones if needed) like the old 4A was prior to 1988. That way they could actually decrease the total number of 3A schools, fill all the districts and keep the ratio less than 2:1.

So kind of like how 5A does it in the Houston area?

Only one 5A district has zones (the Fort Bend District), they started it last year after Ike.

District 7-4A (Fort Worth ISD) has been using zone for about six years or so.

I could see 3A going to that....Division 1 playoffs would be odd with just 16 teams.

Wow, that would put Stephenville at the smallest school in 4A. Hope your numbers re off by about 10 students.

UIL will hold to the 2.2 rule.

So if you say the top # of 3A is 1030, then the bottom will be 468.

Here is an article in which Cliff Odenwald is quoted as saying the 2A-4A will each consist of approximately 200 schools and that the UIL will be using a 2.0 ratio.
