Default A list of the 52 current applicants for the Sweetwater job.

In my never ending struggle to find HS basketball standings, I
    stumbled across this.

Maybe ya'll can help fill in some of the locations of these applicants
and want their current title is.

Football: Sweetwater starts search for new head coach

    January 22, 2009 - 11:06 PM

    ODESSA AMERICAN

Sweetwater ISD has announced the first preliminary list of applicants for its vacant head coaching/athletic director position.

Fort Stockton defensive coordinator B.J. Carlton is the only local name among the first list of applicants, a list that includes 52 names.

The deadline to submit applications is Feb. 6. Interviews are through Feb. 16, and the district prefers the new coach starts March 2, though that is negotiable, according to the Web site.

The coach, which includes a full-time secretary and no teaching duties, will direct a team that last season was picked by coaches to finish fifth in a loaded District 2-3A but finished 10-3, including a 38-7 loss to Liberty Hill in a Class 3A Division II regional playoff.

Former Sweetwater head coach Kent Jackson, also a former Odessa High boys track and field coach, officially took over the football program at Frisco Heritage on Monday.

Jackson, a Seminole native, had a 126-53-1 overall record and finished 78-26 at Sweetwater, advancing to the Class 3A Division II semifinals in 2005.

Whoever gets Green from Windthorst is getting a quality coach.
I noticed that he is applying for several jobs this year.

He has always had competitive teams at 1A Windthorst, and he will coach 'em up.

Man...Bellville's coach didn't apply for this one too? I guess he doesn't think as highly of Sweetwater as he does of Brownwood and PN-G!
This boy is not the most athletic kid or strong kid. He is just tall and has a huge frame and heart. He wants his body to perform at a varsity level, but he can't make it do it. He knows he is not there yet and so do I. His words; "Dad I can start at some of those other schools, but at (random school), I will be the best I can be. I may never start on varsity, but I will know I gave it my best." Soon to be an after-school special.

Well they are accepting applications until Feb 6th, so I figure the list will be longer.

Green would be a good choice. Too bad he doesn't have any sons still playing.

Is Mario Heredia the brother of Sweetwater assistant principal Tony?

I had the oppurtunity to work for Coach Mayfield. Good guy.

I know Tony has a brother that coaches but I don't know if that is him or not, Tony was not the best coach I was ever around.

Don't know if Mario Heredia is related, but Mario is a Sweetwater Alum class of '88.
