Who's the pitcher for Huntington? Apparently pretty good shutting out first Splendora and now Giddings.
they played at 7:30. a couple of my friends umpired the game.
they said the pitcher for huntington was a freshman. to my
knowledge, I don't think she has given up a run in the playoffs.
giddings had 1 hit, in the 7th inning. they are a very good hitting
team, so she must be really good. lol to giddings on sat., get
those bats going. the game was at shsu, will be there tomorrow
as well. 94.1 fm. from brenham was at the game.

so it should be on the radio tomorrow?
You are right, Huntington has not given up a run in these playoffs.
From what I have found out, they have not given up any runs except for one game during district.
4/3: Huntington 5, Hudson 4;
However, my sources did not have the complete results from district 20.
Huntington's overall record at one point in late April was 21-1-1.
Yep, nothing else was on Coach Hicks site.Originally posted by 3aSoftball4Mom

Devilettes 1 win from state tourney
Thomas one-hits Giddings

HUNTSVILLE — The Huntington Devilettes took a long step toward a run to the Class 3A state tournament by defeating the Giddings Lady Buffaloes 2-0 in the first game of a best-of-three series at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville Thursday night.
The win puts Huntington just one win away from its first ever state tournament berth. The Devilettes will look to take that final step when the series resumes on Saturday morning.
With one out in the top of the first inning, Huntington pitcher Carlie Thomas hit Giddings' Jordan Masek with a pitch. Masek attempted to steal and was erased on a perfect throw from catcher Brittney Batten to shortstop Caitlyn Ivy.
That was the only baserunner Thomas would allow until the seventh inning when the Lady Buffs' Masek singled and Regan Fritsche reached on an error. Both runners were stranded as Thomas retired the last two batters of the game on a fly out to third base and a one-hop grounder back to the mound to preserve the win.
The freshman hurler finished the night with a one-hitter, as she hit just one batter and walked one while fanning 11.
Huntington jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning as Presley Modisette singled, advanced to third on a base hit by Katie Mills and scored on a passed ball by the Giddings catcher.
The Devilettes threatened to break the game open in the second inning on a walk by Jenny Winthrop, a fielder's choice by Bowden and a single by Maria Yount. But the bases were left loaded as Giddings remained within striking distance.
The Devilettes added an insurance run in the third inning on a triple by Katie Mills and an RBI single by Batten, producing the eventual final score of 2-0.
Hitters for Huntington included Presley Modisette (single, run), Mills (single, triple, run), Batten (single, RBI), Mallory Brandenburg (sacrifice), Winthrop and Nikki Bowden (walk) and Yount (single).
The Devilettes and Lady Buffaloes will play the second game of the series on Saturday morning at 10:30 at Sam Houston State University. A third game, if necessary, would be played 30 minutes after the finish of the second game.
Huntington improves to 31-2-1. Giddings drops to 25-8.

so, there was no other info on it about Huntington?
funny, never paid much attention to them before playoffs. Even saw them play Taylor in the second round and still didn't think much of them.

You just never know! Not many, if any posters from Huntington on here I guess. This freshman pitcher must get a lot of movement on the ball and locate very well. Hopefully rain clears out so they can finish series.Originally posted by 3aSoftball4Mom

funny thing is their star pitcher has not pitched in the playoffs because she got hurt. The freshman had to come in and pick it up, and she has done a great job.
Did the freshman get any pitching time during the regular season?Originally posted by mistanice

Looks like she's done a great job, hope the other pitcher is going to be ok.
It was very hard to keep up with their district all year. The only coach who sent any information to me was the Huntington coach. Several of the schools in their district don't have newspaper internet coverage, or the coverage is spotty. I get better results from Laredo and Amarillo papers than East Texas. I tried to get what I could from the Lufkin paper.
I feel that Giddings will be ready for today, but I know Huntington is very confident they are going to win. Should be a great game this morning if the weather holds up.
