The game was a very significant historical occasion. Remember SHSU is the oldest university in Texas while UT is the biggest state university. This game was the first time these two titans ever played against each other. Hence the aweness of history.

Phil...did you realize that Texas has never played the university that is closest to them??? That would be Concordia. Also, they only played SW Texas 1 time (1930) and have never played Texas State. They have also never played UTEP. Look at all the in-state rivalries they have passed up on.
