It might not be a bad idea to mention the team you are referencing.

That's what happens when all of the local radio stations get bought up by Clear Channel and other large companies. "serving the public interest" doesn't mean a whole lot to them.
KVNS-1700 AM (Clear Channel owned) did a "game of the week" 2 years ago and was quite popular, but for some reason decided not to continue it last year.
All we have is ESPN-1240 and their "Valley Football Update" show that runs from 7:30-10:00 on Friday nights. The station has about 10 correspondents stationed at games around the RGV and they call in with live updates via cell phone.

Well that isnt any good at all.
However, we probably have the most unique scoreboard show in the state.
Hugo De La Cruz and his "Football Scoreboard show on KGBT-1530/98.5. Cruz has done the show for over 30 years and is known all around the Valley as "Mr. Ni-**-Ni-Fa". The show is totally in Spanish, features crying babies for teams who got beat, "corridos", which are Spanish songs that people write and record for their favorite teams and of course his trademark phrase of "Ni-**-Ni-Fa" that he uses when a team gets shut out.The phrase is a slang term that loosely translated, means "not a damn thing".
A particular score given by De La Cruz might sound something like this........
"Los Tarpons de Puerto Isabel....Cuarenta y nueve, Los Piratas de Hidalgo........."NI-**-NI-FA!!!!!!" (49-0) followed by the crying baby noise

As a 3A in the DFW area, it's virtually impossible to get any airtime. Sometimes, very rarely, a station will pick up a single game.
