not to hate on the kids that make this list...but this list always cracks me up. It is essentially the kids that do very well in the classroom but their performance in their sport doesn't matter at all. I had friends that were 1st team academic all state in football that played maybe 5 plays on special teams...but because they lettered they were eligible for this award. Like I said, I'm not taking anything away from the kids...but at least in college it's a combination of good grades and exceptional performance in your sport.

Don't think that is the case with this list. I recognize 12 names on this list and every one of them at least made their all-district team. Three of the players on this list, including Football4life, made the all-state team. David Hill, the kid from Greenwood on the list, was our district's Offensive Player of the Year.

What's too hate? They excel in the classroom while others excel on the field. They spend just as much time in practice as their teammates. Some of these cats are even on All-District and All-Region Teams as well for their athletic prowess as well.

That may be the case now...I was saying that in 2000 and 2001 when I was in HS, Wylie would have 6 or 7 kids that were 1st team Academic All-State in football...yet they weren't ever playing on the field. You would think that some standard of athletic acomplishment would be required to receive this award instead of it being an award for kids that excel in academics and only have to sign up for athletics to receive this award. I think the award should recognize those who excel in BOTH academics AND athletics.
