Why do most teams seem afraid to kick a ball deep on a kickoff? Don't the coaches teach kick coverage anymore?

I guess to kick the ball to someone that doesn't usually handle the ball and then they might fumble!!! Other than that i would kick it deep all the time unless my coverage was absolutely horrible!!Originally posted by kepdawg

SOme coaches would trade field position by squibbing, rather than give up a long return.....usually coaches squib or pooch if they do not have alot of speed

My how times haved changed.............I don't recall willingness having anything to do with being on kick off teams. It had more to with not running sprints and laps the rest of your days!!!!!!

Conditioning is a big part of special teams especially if you have starters on special teams!!!

there are kids that can do it and some that cant suck it up and go.....one kid gets lazy on one KO and 7 points and Mo have gone to the other team.

What is really bad is to squib when you have a kicker that consistently kicks it into the endzone!
