Default What's the average starting salary for teachers in your district?

My girlfriend needed something to compare to... she's going to be an elementary teacher. If anybody could help that would be awesome.

Also, if anybody knows the salary for a first-year bilingual education teacher in your school district, that info would be great too.

Starting salaries are $50,000 to $60,000…depending on where you are at in the state and to what level of degree you obtain. With the pay grade up as high as $95,000 annually. That is also based on what level of degrees that you obtain. My neighbor is the Superintendent of one of the schools out in the valley. He alone makes over $100,000 per year.

This scale is in regards to the Anchorage, Mat Su Valley and the Fairbanks school districts. I am not sure of what the average is in Juneau, Valdez or elsewhere in the state..

Of the 2.25 Billion dollars per year, 1/3 of the States Budget is spent on education that is some $800,000,000 (annually).

I know that this sounds too hard to believe, don’t take my word for it just follow up on it if you wish. Here is an illustration that I had herd on the radio just the other day, while driving into Anchorge. I didn’t catch all of the news, but there was a Special Education teacher that worked for the Anchorage school district, that has retired after som 27 years. She is drawing almost $12,000 per month in retirement under two retirement compensations…almost $8,000 on one and nearly $4,000 on another form of retirement compensation. It depends upon the pay scale.

…One more thing big daddy russ. The cost of living up here is exceptionally high. Maybe as just as expensive as anywhere else…I am not sure. But I do know $50,000 doesn’t go along way up here. But it’s a pretty place, if you’ve never been, and then again, it’s all what a person gets used to.
