Post Question about the Ratings Game???

Okay, curious about the way ratings are assigned. Can a team move up even if the teams ahead of it did not lose? Example being Newton (#6)...Jasper(#2) had a bye, but Newton played an awesome game. Would you expect them to move?
Same question can apply to my adopted high school team--Hemphill (2A) is rated #3 currently, and tonight beat the #8 team. Can they move up any if the #1 and #2 teams don't move.
Just curious...I know that they are just numbers, but it sure is exciting when you see that your hometown teams are considered the best in the state.

Yeah Twinkle, it is pretty exciting to see the ratings.

I take them completely with a grain of salt. HS Football is sooo hard to rank accurately, hence the number of different polls out there.

And as some wise people once said on this board, The only poll that counts is the last game in December!

    Congrats to Hemphill this year,

Ditto Slpybear! The only thing polls are good for is putting a big bullseye on your back. Someone is always trying to knock you off.
