Default Any Basketball Coaches or Experts please explain

When a player is running toward the basket how many steps is he allowed to make toward the basket after the last dribble before he is traveling? This is for Texas high school basketball and not NBA.

    Thank you PPHSfan and Keith7!

    In the NBA:

If the drive results in a dunk: 9
    If it's not a dunk: 6
    If you're Kobe Bryant: 14
    If you're Michael Jordan: 27

I've been gritching about carrying the BB for years, but most folks don't seem to care. I think great dribbling ability should be rewarded, not frowned on by letting players haul the ball to the basket.
