Default Only Man to be Head Football Coach at both UT and Texas A&M

was Dana X. Bible (1891 - 1980). The X stood for Xanophon. He coached at Texas A&M in 1917 and 1919 - 1928 (He was a pilot in 1918 in WW1) where he had an outstanding 72-19-9. From 1929 to 1936 he coached at Nebraska and had another outstanding record at 50 - 15 -17. In 1937 he started coaching at UT and was the head coach there until 1946 where he had another great record at 63 - 13 - 3. After the 1946 he served as athletic director at UT for several years and was instrumental in getting Darrell Royal hired in 1957.

That is ironic because he coached two teams that had perfect records at Texas A&M in 1917 and 1919 and the 1927 team won all its' games except for one tie. He also coached the Aggies to their first bowl win in 1921 in the Dixie Classic which the Aggies won over Centre 22 to 14. Maybe they didn't name one after him because they were bitter that he later coached at UT.

Go Sinton Pirates and Lady Pirates! I also like old movies like "Dawn at Socorro." I also like the Tour de France. I like the Pelican West Band located at South Padre Island, Texas. Phil is PhiI is Bill is the compassion police. He is also the Sinton Matador. Some call him the Sinton Prophet. {Also Captain Obvious. } BEWARE OF THE HOWLING BEAR! He's going for the Corner - he's got it! Roy Orbison rules.

That is right Pirate. He left Nebraska for Texas because Texas offered him a salary of $15,000 a year which was a top salary at that time. Plus the University allocated money so he could hire some top notch assistant coaches.
