    Quote from a NOAA website:

But when this massive undersea wave reached the shallow water near the coast of India and the other countries in the area, it began to rear its ugly head. The trough of the wave hit first, and so water along the shore rushed out to fill it. This is exactly what survivors reported. Suddenly there was a vast expanse of new beach where there had been many feet of water minutes before. The crest followed the trough and as it entered ever more shallow water, friction with the ocean floor slowed it somewhat but at the same time it piled up‚ on itself, just like wind driven waves. The crest of this wave reached heights as high as 40 feet, creating a surge of water racing inland destroying everything in its path

    hmm...it's a curious picture
but think about it...couldn't the waves have been higher away from the coast and hit the actual land at 20 or 40 feet high

It looks real doctored up...the picture is obviously a fake. The water can't be that blue if it was stirred up; it should be a brown muddy color.

I believe that it could have reached as high as 30-40 feet but this is with out a doubt that this picture is hoax...just my opinion...
