    Default Sinton Pirate Baseball 2023

A bit early but since there's not much else being posted I figured why not. Sinton had a little celebration honoring the Pirates 2022 state championship this past week at the baseball field unveiling the new banners in right and left centerfield, adding 2022 to the state title and state tournament banners. The players also received the state title rings as well.

The 2023 group will drift a little bit back toward the rest of the contenders, but they will still be tough to beat. Pitching and fielding will be their strengths this year. 4 of the 5 pitchers return from a year ago and every position will have some one who started last year in at least 5 games. They won't be as strong at the plate but they still have some pretty good hitters. Won't see 35 homeruns but they'll get their share for sure. Run It Back!!

Pitching is stout, defense should be good as last year and offensively might take some time to see who fills in for the Galvan twins production, some bombs from those two and clutch hits and ability to steal a base so those two will be big shoes to fill.

Blake Mitchell and Jaque Stewart HR threats each time they come to bat and imo think Fr from last season Derek Garcia might add some power to line up to go along with Braeden Brown and Kaden McCoy started showing power half through season and was the #9 batter. Marco Gonzales and Nick Flores look out they could have big offensive numbers this year. Kline Chester like his brother from last year Canon clutch hitter with some pop and look for Aidan Moody and Aidan Lazano to provide some pop on offense also.

Pitchers looks like (Sr) Stewart(0.00 era 5-0 in 2021 and 0.16 era 7-0 in 2022), (Sr) Blake Mitchell hasn't loss a game from Fr to current tops out at 97 mph, (Sr) Braeden Brown been winning since his Fr season when he went 5-0 and 7-0 last season and lost just one game his soph year. Aidan Moody most likely replacing the only senior they lost in Wyatt Wiatrek, Moody was 3-0 with 2 saves and 0.60 era. Next two will be Aidan Lozano and Derek Garcia so overall might be more deep than last year in pitching.

In 31 game win streak Sinton gave up only 25 runs with 19 shut outs and 7 no hitters. Wimberley with 1 run in game 1 and 8 in game 2 so props to Wimberley both those games were tough even in gm 1 took Sinton late to open that one up and game 2 took extra innings to take the lead.

Sinton best shot to repeat is this year.

Aiden Lozano didn't have many at bats because Rene Galvan was DH in his place. The only time he got to bat was when Wiatrick was pitching. So his plate appearances were limited and didn't see much success when he did bat. This year Galvan won't be there to DH for him so he'll have to get better hitting the ball. Same with Kline Chester. If those 2 can better at the plate Sinton will be a better team overall.

Pirates started the season hosting their own tournament winning all 4 games they played and then played this weekend at the Calallen tournament going 5-0 . Pirates now at 9-0 on the year and have extended their win streak to 40 straight. I will say they have not been as dominant compared to the last couple years, but they keep grinding to get them wins. Tuesday they take on Rockport in a district matchup and then travel to Dripping Springs Thursday for that tournament. If the Pirates are going to lose any games it will be in this tournament. But if they win out it will be a pretty good chance they'll be unbeaten going in to the playoffs.

Jaquae Stewart was the winning pitcher throwing a no-hitter with 7 strikeouts walking one batter and 1 hit by pitch in 5 innings of work. Pirates batters produced 16 hits so a pretty good day at the park overall.
