    Default El Campo vs. Gonzales

El Campo is coming to Gonzales for what I believe is the first meeting between the Ricebirds and the Apaches. EC has a full stable of running backs. Gonzales also is stacked at that position. New qb for Gonzales. not sure who it will be, but Apaches have a huge offensive line returning.

Reuben Owens is a bad man. Going to be a really tough first-game assignment for the Apache defense. I'd lean towards the Ricebirds in this first matchup, but would love to see Gonzales make a game of it. This is a fun season-opening matchup. Probably a little underrated outside of those two fan bases.

Only having one scrimmage is hard on everyone. It should be a good game. Gonzales line is huge from what we hear!!

Yeah not much live action for these kiddos yet. These first games could be a bit sloppy. Either way, all things holding equal, this one should be pretty fun to watch.

Coach said the team would be better challenged by playing against the larger schools. All the pre-district games are against 4AD1 schools, EC, Burnet, Fredericksburg and La Vernia as well as 4A2 Jarrell. Don't think they would have been opening against you anyway. May be right about EC putting a whipping on us, but if they do, it will be a learning experience for the kids.

Owens is everything he is advertised to be. Hell of it is, we have to play them again next year at their place. Score was 35-0, but EC killed the Apaches early with the big play. Ran the opening kickoff back 93 yards for a td and then broke an 83 yarder on their next offensive possession. All in all, the Apaches represented themselves pretty well. El Campo was badly hurt by penalties.

Yeah, heard it could of been 70-zip had they not fouled so much. GZ differently got challenged then some here. I still like the rivalry matchups of the past. Always entertaining. You'd think coach could of mustard one 3A in his pre-season schedule though.

You get better playing teams that are better than you are. I don't think that 70-0 would have been plausible. Apaches played pretty good defense considering all the speed they were going up against. They contained Owens a few times, but you put too much emphasis on him and that other guy will kill you
