Argyle Lady Eagles 6th straight appearance and going for a record 5 straight State Championships. Played the entire year without stellar Clemson commit Supersoph Sydney Standifer. She is recovering this entire season from surgery of a torn ACL she injured in summer league last year. She should be back for her junior year next season to help Argyle try to make it back for a 7th straight appearance.

The Argyle Lady Eagles will be playing Hardin Jefferson tomorrow at 7 pm in the Alamodome for the State Championship. If they win....the Argyle Lady Eagles will have won the State Championship for the last 5 yrs. in a row. They were not favored to even reach the State Tournament this year without Standifer in the lineup, but have defeated #1 Canyon, #2 Levelland, #4 Dallas Lincoln, and now will be playing #3 Hardin-Jefferson for the State Championship. Argyle finished the regular season ranked #5 in the TABC rankings. That's running the toughest road to the championship of any team in playoffs.....maybe in all classificatiions. So if they win tomorrow night......they will have earned it the hard way.

    GO LADY EAGLES......put up a 5-Spot.

Congrats to the Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill Lady Red Devils on their perfect season and winning the Class 3A State Basketball Championship. They defeated a very very good Woodville team in the final today to claim their very first title on their first trip to the finals. Woodville had a record of 39-1 before falling to the Red Devils in the final. It's a special thing to go undefeated in a season in basketball....and really special when your team wins against another stellar opponent in the State Championship game. I was very impressed with this Chapel Hill team.....they were just well coached and made good decisions on the court. They all handled the ball well and passed off to the open player for the best shot, and drove to the basket. Chapel Hill converted an unheard of 23 out of 24 at the charity stripe today.....98%.....just unbelievable. That Perfect Season of 37-0 will live forever in these girls hearts.

Looks like the Argyle Lady Eagles basketball program proved itself again this season as being among the very best in the nation at its level.....despite missing its most talented player the entire season. They won their 5th straight State Basketball Championship tonight against a very talented Hardin Jefferson team that came in ranked #3 with a record of (35-4). Argyle(33-7) lost all 7 games early against 5A and 6A schools in predistrict before reeling off 23 straight wins to claim another State Title. At one time early in their schedule, Argyle stood at (10-7), but then never lost another game after that. The Lady Eagles lose senior starter Kennedy Reaves and backup Maggie Adams to graduation, but gain Standifer back as a starter again next season. The rest of the squad will be returning to try to set a record 6th straight state championship.....it's never been done before in UIL history. There's some very quality competition in this classification, but looks like Argyle will be a very formidable opponent again next season.....and so will Hardin Jefferson and quite a few others. It's not an easy task to keep winning every game when the competition is also very talented and capable. But that's why the game is so popular worldwide now. It's an American sport expanded almost universally.

BTW......for those that don't follow women's basketball......Argyle standout graduate Vivian Gray is the 2nd leading scorer in the Big 12 at Okla. State this season. It's her first season after transferring and being named MVP of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference last season where she averaged 18.5 pts/game in her freshman season. This season, Gray was named as one of 5 Unanimous All Big 12 Team Honors and Newcomer of the Year in the Big 12. She averaged 19.5 pts/game and shot 84.2% from the free-throw line, but has raised her pts/game average in league play to 21.6 per outing. She ranks 26th nationally in points/game while accumulating 16 20-point outings and 3 games of over 30 points scored. Keep an eye on this former Lady Eagle as she furthers her collegiate career at Oklahoma State......she should set even more records. I enjoy watching her play on televised Big 12 games just to see how much more her game has progressed since her senior season at Argyle.
