I wasn't there live, but listened to the game and have since watched some of the film. I'm really impressed with Wilmer-Hutchins. Are they world beaters? Not by any means. But you look at what that school's been through, and you look at the socio-economics of that district, and you've got a recipe for habitual losing. But that team was so well coached, it was impressive. But for a couple of small mistakes, they would've walked away with a huge playoff win.

Overall, WH had the most team speed that Celina's seen all year, and that's including Argyle and Melissa. The WH Eagles were just slicing and dicing the Bobcats with empty-set packages, four-wide packages, diamond looks, etc. They would just run small crossing routes, quick hits and then BOOM they'd rip off a huge pass over the middle. The QB was, apart from Argyle's Hogenboom, one of the more accurate QBs Celina has faced this year. I know things didn't turn out the way the Eagles wanted, but this is a great year for WH to build on. They were the better team, but Celina just found a way to grind out the win.

From the Bobcats' perspective, it was an oddly called game, defensively. Celina would look like they were going to play press coverage, then the DBs would bail before the snap, and the WH QB would just sling the ball as soon as he touched it, and the receivers would have an easy 7-8 yards before they even ran into contact. The Bobcats kept blitzing all night, but they just never could quite get to the WH QB — although there were a few crucial 'hurries' there near the end — and he was able to just slice-and-dice the exhausted Celina secondary. You could probably count on just your two hands how many times the Eagles ran the ball. They didn't even bother in the second half. They just kept throwing it, and the Bobcats' DBs were gassed. It took forever for the Celina staff to make any defensive adjustments, but when they finally did, the Bobcats made a couple of crucial stops and set up the win.

A HUGE interception and return by Riley Briscoe, and an inspired offensive rally to get the go-ahead score, and then a great defensive stand in the waning seconds, and you go from Celina's dead-in-the-water to moving on to the area round to (probably) take on Stephenville.

It wasn't pretty. But this time of year, it's just survive-and-advance, and do what you've got to do to see another day.
    Texas Forever.
