Default Gidding's Jamie Dixon to be recommmended for Industrial ISD head football coaches job

    From the Victoria Advocate

Giddings has played one of the most difficult non-district schedules in the state over the last four years.

But the tough competition has helped the Buffaloes win three consecutive district championships.

“I can tell you from being up here in Giddings, we played one of the toughest schedules around,” said Jamie Dixon, who has been at Giddings for six years, the last four as the offensive coordinator. “You can’t be shy of your schedule, you’ve got to meet it head on.

“In the last four years in Giddings, we’ve done a lot of great things and won a lot of ballgames. We won three straight district championships and you can’t be scared of the hard people you’re going to have to play.”

Dixon’s next challenge will come at Industrial after being recommended as the school’s athletic director and head football coach by superintendent Paul Darilek.

Dixon, who was one of 80 applicants for the position, is expected to be approved for the position at Monday’s meeting of the Industrial board of trustees.

“I’ve got a young family with two young kids,” said the 41-yard old Dixon. “I’m originally from Ingleside. You look at schools for your kids and Industrial is a good school district.”

Dixon has also been an assistant at La Marque, Ingleside and Gonzales.

He will replace Kensey Allen, who resigned in February after three seasons as athletic director and head football coach.

The Cobras had a 3-6 record last season and moved into a football district with Yoakum, Edna, Hallettsville, Goliad and Luling.

I know they’re in a tough district, but that doesn’t bother me,” Dixon said. “I think they’ve competed in every sport. They just haven’t had the success in football they’ve had in other sports. I welcome the challenge.”

Dixon, who also coaches the girls track team at Giddings, plans to meet the athletes at Industrial next week.

“I want to get the offseason program going so we can begin getting stronger,” Dixon said. “I want to start teaching them how to compete and things like that. I think the kids at Industrial are going to respond and we’re going to compete well.”

I'm surprised they got 80 applicants.

This will be a tough challenge and good opportunity for a really good coach to start this part of his career. He will work those kids and prepare them for each challenge. Good luck to Coach Dixon and Industrial.
