Gary Zeinert’s fifth season as athletic director and head football coach at Rice Consolidated will be his last.

Zeinert has resigned from the position, although he will remain with the school district until June 30.

Zeinert wrote a letter announcing his resignation, and it was approved Thursday night by the Rice Consolidated school district board of trustees.

Zeinert was the offensive coordinator at Rice Consolidated under Brad Dumont before taking over as athletic director and head football coach in 2013.

He was also the head football coach at Charlotte for two seasons and was an assistant at Pleasanton.

Zeinert has an overall head coaching record of 34-42 and went 26-30 at Rice Consolidated.

The Raiders made the playoffs in Zeinert’s first four seasons before going 4-5 and finishing fifth in District 14-3A, Division I last season.

The district is advertising the position on its website and accepting applications through April 5.

Rice Consolidated will compete in football District 13-3A, Division I next season against Palacios, Boling, Columbus, Hempstead and Hitchcock.

Along with Rice Consolidated, Bay City and Industrial are seeking athletic directors and head football coaches.
