    Houston Wheatley 46

Totally unexpected that the Argyle Girls would even make it back to the State Tournament this year after graduating Vivian Gray, Madison Ralston, and Jocelyn Pierce last season. This team is young with a first year coach Westmoreland that guided Brock to 2 previous state championships. Also totally unexpected was the way the Lady Eagles dominated play in the 2nd half of this game and completely took the Wheatley Girls out of their gameplan. Argyle did it on both sides of the court with stellar defense combined with solid offensive ball control and quality shots. Argyle will be playing again tomorrow night at 7 pm for their 4th straight championship in 5 consecutive trips to the state tournament. Congrats to this young team and the 1st year coaching staff for a job well done all season.

After watching the Denver City/SA Veterans Memorial semifinal on NFHS tape delay......I must admit I was very impressed with the Patriots high quality play. Looks to me like they are no slouch whatsoever, and should be able to give the Argyle Lady Eagles all they want in the final tomorrow night. This team is in its first year of varsity play......they have been playing together at the junior varsity level for several years. There are no seniors on the Patriots team, but some outstanding juniors and sophs......with one freshman. Good luck to both teams tomorrow night in the State Championship game......it should prove to be very close and worth the price to watch.

    GO LADY EAGLES!!!

Veterans Memorial is a new school in the Judson ISD. This is their first year playing at the varsity level in basketball in the girls program. They have been playing football at the junior varsity level also, but I believe the Boys Basketball team had a very successful season last year playing at the varsity level. Enrollment is 606. I suspect we will see them playing football next season at the varsity level. I think this may be the Patriots 4th year in existence as a school......don't really know much about them and what the history is over the first few years.

Class 4A State Championship Girls Basketball Tournament Final

    Argyle Lady Eagles(34-7) 60
    S. A. Veterans Memorial Lady Patriots(33-10) 41

    Final

The Argyle Lady Eagles win their 4th straight basketball championship in 5 consecutive trips to the finals and 7th overall. It was the Standifer Sisters Gabby & Sidney leading the way, with Rhyle McKinney helping with 18 points. Of the 60 points the Lady Eagles scored.......57 were scored by these 3 players. Gabby wins her 4th S.C. medal in 4 yrs and will be playing for Fresno State next season. Sister Sidney is only a freshman......but what a talent she is. McKinney and Brooklyn Carl are both sophomore starters and also very talented. Argyle's bench is stacked with young talent getting quality minutes and experience for the future. Argyle loses only 3 seniors this year......one starter......so should be a very formidable force next season as well. Congratulations to a very excellent Veterans Memorial Lady Patriots team on having just a stellar season in their very first varsity year. This group is also young and does not have a senior on the team. They should pose to be a very competitive team again next season as well. Both coaching staffs should feel very proud of what their girls accomplished this season in a very competitive playoff scenario. It's always difficult to reach the State Tournament. Congrats to first year head coach Chance Westmoreland and his first year staff on their State Championship trophy. Looks like Argyle Girls Basketball may be building a legacy of championship titles.

Here's a capsule of the season records the past six seasons for the Lady Eagles........very impressive!!
    2017-18 (34-7) State Champion
    2016-17 (38-2) State Champion
    2015-16 (35-1) State Champion
    2014-15 (32-5) State Champion
    2013-14 (34-2) State Finalist
    2012-13 (25-7) Region Finalist

(198 -24) in the past 6 seasons against perhaps the toughest schedules in Class 4A. Most losses were against larger classification schools. This run began 6 seasons ago, but there were two other Lady Eagles teams to make the finals in 2005(State Champion) and 2009(State Finalist). That's 7 trips to the State Tournament in 15 seasons as a program, winning 5 State Championships. Not too shabby for the Lady Eagles.
