Total offense in this one with both qb's completing passes for big yards. Lovejoy close to the goal now. He's hit hard and driven back. 3rd and goal from the 2 for Lovejoy. Rainey hit at the one but gets a push and scores. Extra point is good.

    Argyle 21
    Lovejoy 14

Don Williams picks up 9 on first down after a touchback on the kickoff. Now Williams for another 8 yds. Cale Nanny picks up a couple and that's the end of the quarter. Looks like Don Williams may already have right at 100 yds rushing in the first quarter.
    End of 1st.

Argyle to start of the 2nd quarter now......pass complete to Soph. Alex Gonzales for a first down on that inside screen.

Jon Copeland goes deep to Cale Nanny and he's all over his back at the 5 yd line. Interference there by Lovejoy may have saved a TD. Now from the 36, Copeland hits Nanny as he takes it down to the 12 yd line.

It certainly appears that way. Argyle looked - and largely was - unstoppable against Lovejoy. Eagles could be on a collision course with Carthage at Texas Stadium in a few months.

Seems like quite a few of the better teams in most classifications put up some good offensive numbers to start the season. Why do you think this happens??? Probably because it's easier to score on defenses early in the season than it is when they finally mesh as a defensive unit. What does this really mean? It means it's too early to get all keyed up over just the season opener......regardless of the competition. Obviously, Argyle's offense looked unstoppable......but so did alot of other teams offenses in class 4A to start the season. The big question is what about Argyle's defense this season against a very good offense? From the boxscore, it appears that Lovejoy was too much one-dimensional in the passing game, and that made it easier for the Argyle defense. Not saying Argyle is not a very good football team......just saying it's too early to say that with full certainty. There are plenty of things the coaches saw that need some work. It's a natural tendency to rate a team highly that has had so much success in the past. Let's give the players a chance to prove themselves worthy first. Good first game win.......against what we believe will be a fairly good team.......that's all it was.

Seeing things that need work and deciding whether or not a team is 'very good' or not are two separate things.

Does Argyle have things they need to work on? Of course. Every single team in the state has things they need to work on. And that sentence will be as true today as it will be for those few, those happy few, who play at Texas Stadium in December. That has zero bearing on whether or not we have the ability to project Argyle as a very good team, even an elite team. We can't project their final landing place this season, of course, but we can say, with certainty, that they are a very good team.

Of course there are certain things that need improvements on, seen several myself. But this team is so much further ahead then I've seen in the past. The scary part is when they do start clicking on all cylinders. Argyle is a very dangerous team with several weapons on both sides of the ball. Going to be a fun season to watch.
