Default Longhorns to play in Texas Bowl at Houston

Source: Longhorns likely to play in Texas Bowl for postseason
    34 minutes ago

Following a 48-10 loss to TCU on Thanksgiving night the next game for the Texas Longhorns will likely be at Houston's NRG Stadium for the Advocare Texas Bowl.

A source with knowledge of the situation told Horns247 the Dec. 29 game, which is operated by the Houston Texans of the NFL, is where the Longhorns are expected to travel for the postseason.

“It's not a done deal, but it's pretty close to one,” the source said. “Not 100 percent, but real close.”

If the Longhorns (6-6, 5-4 in the Big 12) do play in the Texas Bowl it will be against a team from the Southeastern Conference. The likely opponent in that situation would either be Texas A&M (7-5) or Arkansas (6-6), but unlike the Big 12 where the bowls select the teams not in the College Football Playoff or associated bowl games the SEC chooses which teams go to which bowls.

Latest word today Texas will play either Arkansas or LSU at Texas Bowl or Liberty Bowl, definitely no Texas- ATM matchup.

Something could possible change but highly unlikely from what I am hearing, I know the players and fans would like to see it happen.

Y'all's offense sucks and our defense sucks. Something's gotta give... LOL

I think itd be a pretty low scoring game, maybe 20-17 ish

It is the sec 's decision who they want their teams to be paired against unlike other conferences, just saying.

Yeah, and I'm sure little ol Texas has no say what so ever in the matter.

I'm wondering if A&M has any "say" in the matter. I'd expect UT to win by 2 scores at this point in A&M's season.
The problem with socialism is, eventually you run out of other peoples' money.

I just pointed a fact that sec is the only conference to slot their teams in bowl games, while other conferences do not have that option.

I'm on the Tiger Rant forums a lot and the consensus over there is, is that it's either the Texas Bowl or the one in Florida. I'm praying it's LSU and Texas. My first LSU game ever was the Cotton Bowl in 2001 (I think that was the year). I was eleven years old and still have no idea how that Texas team didn't do better. Vasher, Sims, BJ Johnson, Roy Wiliams, there were stars all over the field.

It would be nice to get another LSU game under my belt this year.
