    Default Radiant Barriers

Has anyone used them in your attic? If so, what's your opinion of them? I've read mixed reviews

Radiant barriers are a UL tested product that actually work. In the summer, it keeps the attic cooler, trapping the cool air and reflecting away the hot air from permeating thru from the outside(mainlly your roof area). In the winter, it keeps the heat from escaping thru the attic and the cold air from entering. The cost associated with installation of radiant barriers is usually high, unless you are reroofing. Then you can get some form of radiant barrier installed onto the roof deck will help. Total encapsulation of the attic with radiant barrier rolls is the best, but most expensive. If you plan to stay in the house for 8-10 yrs., it is worth the cost for the electrical savings.
