Bought 1/2 gallon of fresh dewberries from a lady selling them near HEB in Wharton on Firiday

Looked up some receipes and made two pies today-They came out great

My mom used to make them a lot when I was a kid

I know this question is going to show my ignorance, but I'm asking anyway. What exactly is a dewberry?
Sometimes it is entirely appropriate to kill a fly with a sledgehammer!

It's a wild blackberry that grows in ditches and brush country. The dewberry bushes seem to attract rattlesnakes too. They lie in wait for the birds and what ever else enjoy eating the delicious berries!!

I see a rattlesnake story on the horizon.
