Post He Is Only A Boy

You've probably read this before, but it was in our program this week and I thought it was worth another read.

Please don't curse the boy down there
He is my son you see.
He's only just a boy you know
He means a lot to me.
I did not raise my son, dear fan,
For you to call him names.
He may not be a super-star,
It's just a high school game.

So please don't curse those boys down there,
They do the best they can.
They never tried to lose a game,
    They're boys and you're a man.

The game belongs to them you see.
    You are just a guest.
They do not need a fan like you,
    They need the very best.
If you have nothing nice to say
    Please leave the boys alone.
And if you have no manners,
Why don't you stay at home.

So please don't curse those boys down there,
    Each one's his parent's son.
Win or lose or tie, you see,
    To us they're "NUMBER ONE."

Ranger MOm, this reminds me of a song I heard on 95.9, the weatherford station. I was driving back from Granbury several weeks ago and I heard this tearjerker C&W song about a boy who never gets to play, but his dad always comes to game, then he gets sick and can't go to the game, his son gets put in and wins the game for the team, but the dad passes away. It was really sad, but also good.

Anyone know the name of it?

There is another song I just rememberd to, kind of sums up Texas and football. It is called "Dropkick me Jesus." It goes something like...

Dropkick me Jesus through the goal posts of life,
End over end neither left nor the right.
(Then something about a heavenly quarterback)
Dropkick me Jesus through the goal post of life...

It is a hoot. I will have to go to Kazaa and see if anyone has a copy.

That is ironic that you brought up "Drop Kick Me Jesus". My boss wanted me to order him that CD a few weeks ago. I had never heard the song so I went to Limewire and downloaded it. I ordered him the CD but can't think of who sings it now.

That's a touching poem Ranger Mom. I never heard it before. I'm going to print that and take it to booster club meeting Wednesday. Maybe they can incorporate it into the programs. We have a few fanatics here that have to be reminded.

slpybear i have heard that song too, but cannot remember who sung it.

Dropkick meJesus is sung by Bobby Bear, I think. I am picking it up right now.

Don't know about the other song.

    DROP KICK ME JESUS

    Chorus

Dropkick me Jesus through the Goal Posts of life,
End over end neither left nor to right,
Straight through the heart of those righteous uprights,
Dropkick me Jesus through the Goal Posts of life.

    Verse 1

Make me, O make me Lord more than I am,
Make me a piece in your Master game plan,
Free from the earthly tempestion below,
I've got the will Lord if You've got the Toe.

    Repeat Chorus

    Verse 2

Bring on the brothers who've gone on before,
and all of the sisters who've knocked on your door,
and all the departed, dear loved ones of mine,
and stick 'em up front in the offensive line.

    repeat Chorus
    repeat Chorus

La Grange has printed that poem in their programs. It really makes the point doesn't it? We all must remember, coaches and fans, that we are working with 14-17 year old kids who from time to time will make a mistake! We need to remember that we are role models for these kids, not just coaches and fans.

I think the song is by Kenny Rogers man, but I may be thinking of a different song. It may be named something like "The game" or something like that.
