    Post Standout 3A Linemen

We all know about most of the top players at the skill positions, but what I would like to hear about are the linemen, offense and defense that you guys think could challenge for All-State honors, or just really make a difference from the trenches. I will start out by naming Eddie Rollman and Joe Saldivar of Burnet. Rollman is an OL, 6-5 265 senior with good feet that is a good run blocker and pass protector, he should be in the balloting this season. Saldivar is an interior DL 5-10 225 Junior, he is not that large in stature but this kid is a beast. He is a great powerlifter and plays with a mean streak, he should be a major force in the middle this fall. Burnet has a few others that could be on the list, but these are the two that I think will have the most impact on this year's team. The linemen don't garner the recognition like the skill guys, but most know that the games ARE won in the trenches, so let's hear about some impact linemen from your team.

For Ingleside, senior Robert Haughie (6-2, 280) is a hoss on both the offensive and defensive sides of the line. For Aransas Pass look out for sophomore offensive tackle TJ Sanchez (5-10, 275) and seniors Paul Martinez (6-1, 230), Andrew Byrnes (6-2, 260) and Polito Palma (5-11, 225). Byrnes, who'll likely fill the spot at center vacated by his older brother Tony, and Sanchez are almost strictly offensive guys. Sanchez started last year as a freshman on a stout line, and should be much better with a year under his belt. He's extremely quick and explosive for a 275-pounder. Martinez and Palma have been the defensive ends on the line since they were sophomores, and have garnered All-District attention every year since then. Palma will probably be the best defensive lineman in District 30-3A this year and is someone I'm keeping an eye on for All-State honors. I'd even go as far as to group Palma in as one of the top ten d-linemen in the state. Martinez is just a manchild with a hell of a mean streak, more of a bull rusher. Martinez will also likely see considerable time on the offensive side of the ball, probably as tackle opposite Sanchez. The Aransas Pass line is nowhere near as big as they were last year but they're still going to be tough.

Mexia graduated 4 seniors from the O-line last year but have some up coming guys who have experience and can fill in. Look for senior 3-year starter RG Ricky Lopez (6-0, 245, 4.9), senior LT Wallace High (6-3, 250, 5.0), and senior C Kenard Calhoun (6-2, 245, 5.0). All of these guys have the strength, the speed, quickness, stamina, and the intelligence to do what it takes to be on the O-line. All 3 of these guys go both ways as well. And the O-line coach at Mexia knows how to use these guys to his advantage. Mexia is always deep at the line spots to make sure their guys get plenty of rest throughout the game, so when it comes crunch time they are ready to go. These guys will be ready to go, so D-lines better watch out.

    D. Coy, i believe plays line for Sinton. Small guy, big heart, bigger hungriness. Played almost all of last season with a broken arm.

I think Jasper's "little" Offensive lineman is returning. The name is SirVincent if I remember correctly. About 6-4 and around 270 pounds. He is listed on Rivals list of top 300 players.
Maybe if you didn't try to be so clever, you wouldn't end up looking so stupid.

Cameron has Matt Lopez returning. He was the newcomer of the year last year as a sophomore. Not a tall kid but very stocky and hard to block.

Bridge City has basically a completely new line coming up from JV. I have heard of only 2 or 3 that are returning from the line. Funny thing is the jv line last year was bigger than the varsity line by far. Not as strong or fast, but definitely bigger with a few 250+.
