Post Quite possibly the worst football game ever played.

    Winnsboro 2 - North Lamar 0

I sat through two hours of this game. Unfortunately, I'll never get those two hours of my life back.

Apparently you should have watched the Luling Wimberley shoot-out 32-31 Luling in OT!

Who were you there supporting? I thought that Winnsboro played a better game but turnovers are what killed them. By all right it should have at least been 21 to 0.

I was thinking there must have been a forfiet. 2 to 0 doesnt excite me at all. Still counts as a win though.

I was supporting NL. I didn't see 21-0 at all. Winnsboro moved the ball better than NL, but combined they probably still had less than 200 total yards of offense. Both teams had turnovers deep in their opponent's territory. Two really good defenses and two relatively inept offenses.

Some defensive battles are fun to watch, though. I remember a game back in '87 between Jasper and West Orange-Stark when they were ranked 1 and 2 in 4A. It wasn't cold and it wasn't raining...just intense defensive football. By the end of the game, there wasn't 50 yards of offense combined and the only points came as a result of a Jasper fumble deep in their own territory. WO-S 3, Jasper 0. It was a classic and I'll never forget it...

According to the write up in the Tyler paper Winnsboro had over 300 yards by themselves compared to only 34 for NL. A win is a win no matter how it looked. I was disappointed to by the performance of both teams considering what a good game in Winnsboro they played last year. Remember also that this was the first game of the season and both teams will get better.
Good luck to your Panthers the rest of the season. If you have lived in the Paris area for a while can you tell me what has happened to the coach that used to be there by the name of Phillip Holt. He used to coach at Winnsboro.

You're right last year's game was great. Good game all around. The stats for this year's game are as follows:

NL 31 total yards of offense on 29 plays
Winnsboro rushing 167 yds on 51 plays
passing 21 yds on 1 of 8 passing

Last year was when they had over 300 (312 to be exact). Coach Holt is the high school vice principal, but has retired from coaching and athletic director positions. Is Coach Giddens still at Winnsboro?

Coach Giddens left Winnsboro in the early 60's and went to either Talco or Bogota and he has more than likely retired also by now. I will research it and get back to you just as soon as possible. You are talking about Robert Giddens?

Terry Giddens... maybe his son? He coached at NL and then went to (I think) Winnsboro sometime in the past 5 years. I may be mistaken.
