how is remaining the AD stepping down?...he is still the Boss Hogg there..make no mistake about that!!

I was shocked by the move and I wonder how much input he will have on the day to day business of Football.

He might give more input than most head coaches would want to receive.
Maybe that's why they named one of his long time assistants to be the "interim" head coach.;)
