Could be a close one but the Bulldogs should win
Could be a close one but the Bulldogs should win
Don't have a lot of info on the Leps. They do lead D 12 in Team Defense.
Sweeny leads D 11 in both Offense and Defense although the district is very top heavy.
Should be exciting as always when the Leps and Dogs tangle.
La Grange has a very stout defense this year. On offense they have an explosive running game and rely on short play action passing plays to keep the defense honest. Unlike recent teams post Dobbins era, we have both size and speed so they should be able to hang with Sweeny. D12 had more parity than D11 with 5 competitive teams and Royal. For example, Bellville lost in OT to Gddings by a FG, beat LG 14-6 and got beat by 5th place Caldwell 33-25 at home! Going with strength of schedule and our districts parity won loss records really do not count much in terms of predicting the outcome for this game. Finally, our special team play has been excellent which can make the difference in a close game with lots of punts by both teams. Against Giddings our punter pinned the Buffs inside the 5 twice. We had great field position which lead to one of our two tds . It probably will be close like a one possession game. I'll take our chances and go with the Leps by a td.
I look for this to be one of the better 1st round games.Sweeny is favored but I wouldn't sleep on La Grange.
Sweeny got a wake up call from Wharton. Leps may have to pay for it. Bulldogs 27 Leps 10
Sweeny by tds plus
Should be a very good game. Special teams and turnovers will be a big factor. If LG can control the line of scrimmage and hang onto the ball they win in a close one. I know LG can't get in a track meet and it appears Sweeny has had several of those type games this year.
Kates et al will have the LEPS ready. Go LEPS , LG by 3 1/2.
Sweeny really has only been tested twice this year and lost one of those. They have played a very weak schedule. Not saying they aren't that good in spite of their schedule just need to play better teams before I'm sold.
Sweeny 22
La Grange 21
I want a hot dog from someone if the score pegs this prediction.
Friday night can't come soon enough. GATA Dogs!!!!
 :1popcorn:
Clearly from the action on this thread this game is one of the most interesting Bi-District games this week. I think LG is underrated. Both their losses to ranked teams (Bellville and Giddings) were close. If the Leps can stop shooting themselves in the foot with penalties (chop blocks ??? 4 in two games?? really?) they should have a chance to steal this one.
I think this game could go either way. If Sweeny gets ahead by a couple TD's early it could be tough for La Grange to recover.
It's going to come down to ball control. The LG offense must gain the advantage in time of possession while the defense gets a few stops. Field position will be critical so special teams and good coaching come into play. Sweeny has an explosive offense so the Leps have their work cut out for them.
Be watching this one.We get the winner.
Sweeny has played 3 games with a running clock this year. One of which started at the beginning of the 2nd QTR. It will be nice to see them play a full game again. Conditioning should not be a problem as I know the coaches have the boys in great shape. We have also used several different skill players during the season.
Interesting that Sweeny is coming off 3 easy wins (Houston teams)while LG is coming off 2 close hard fought losses to giddings and Bellville. Our boys expecting another physical ballgame and are prepped and playing up to speed. We lost three starters in those games, 2 on defense and one on offense so we are a little banged up but the bench is deep this year especially on Defense.
Sweeny has too been in track meets. They've been the only ones running. Sorry for not being specific.
Leps by 3 1/2

Game day! LG comes into this game looking for a win after two close and tough losses to very physical teams, Bellville and Giddings. Sweeny will be another tough team and will challenge the Leps to play better. It's all on the table tonight. See you at 7PM.
Sweeny has a very good defense. (very good)
Yep that's exactly what happened. Dogs got up 21-0 in the 2nd until the Leps scored before the half. The second half was a different story. After some adjustments the Lep D started to get a grip and shut down the potent Sweeny offense and allowed the Lep O to get back in the game. To quote Vince Lombardi "We didn't lose the game we just ran out of time". Good luck Bulldogs. I'll be pulling for you against WOS next week. This could be a big run for Bulldogs this year.
That was a hard fought battle. I tip my cap to LG for their fight and tenacity. The young men from LG brought it last night. I believe this was the best matchup in the state for 4A. We will have our hands full once again next week as to me this is the toughest region in the class.
