Honestly if high schools can’t afford to properly test then imo there should be no season.
IMO, they need to switch Fall & Spring sports, at least for this coming school year.
UIL's 100th year, they want a full season. If that can't happen, might delay till next year or the spring.
If they try to move football to spring then wouldn't many of the college recruits go ahead and just enroll for spring ball at the college they choose to attend . I am sure a lot of the college coaches would prefer they not play or encourage them to not play and risk injury that close to the college fall season.
If there is a fall football will be Sept 8 the earliest kids can start practice, first games October. Probably district games only.
UIL meeting today - Mon. 20th - No news out today, maybe tomorrow.
All Texas HS athletics continue as scheduled !!!https://www.uiltexas.org/policy/covid-19
Correction (after looking at the UIL revisions effective 8/1/2020. 5A and 6A will delay 5 weeks until 9/8/2020.
I understand Coach Metzel is currently trying to find replacements for scheduled 5A opponents Pine Tree (second scrimmage) and Lindale (Sept. 18 game).
Oops. Forgot that Lindale moved down to 4A, so no problem there.
Good God after reading the UIL's Risk Mitigation Guideline Requirements I don't really see the point as half these items I doubt will be strictly enforced especially if you expect the students to be the one to do the cleaning and disinfecting of equipment, locker room, and other items. Plus football players will be sharing sweat towels and water bottles on the sidelines and during timeouts while on the field . To me the UIL wrote these guidelines to protect their A$% but know that the reality is that several of these requirements will be implemented with a wink and a nod!
The UIL announced that attendance will be capped at 50% capacity for football games.
