No dog in the fight here. But--one of the best HS games I ever witnessed. Both teams left it on the field. Ref's sux. But, they sux both ways. So, that makes them fair in my book. Regal, you b1tch and moan about everything. Your Goliad bunch have nothing to hang their head about. Man, Tiger stud's all over the field and they battled back in this game several times.
Regarding the venue to be Gobbler Stadium and even the ref's. I think both coaches has a say where and who is used to cover this classic contest. Wow, glad I got to be 1 of 12,000 in attendance, as a fan only---to witness this epic matchup. Fan's 6 deep outside fences in both endzones, and the extra bleachers brought in, stuffed.
PS: Cuero ISD, this is how you host a playoff game. So welcoming and a staff that appreciated our business as fan's.
It just seemed lop-sided at that venue to me. Looked like everyone from Yoakum and Cuero were there together pulling for Yoakum. It sounded like the vast majority of fans in attendance were Bulldog fans. My thought is the site should be more neutral.....even though Gobbler Stadium is a great facility. That last "fumble" called a fumble was actually a strip when the player was stopped and down. It stopped Goliad's final drive....which was looking like they would score. I think it happened on about the Yoakum 30 with 3 defenders ripping at Clay....two holding him while the other tried to strip the ball way after he was stopped. It's on the tape for anyone who wants to see it. Not the right call with the game in the balance so late. Not the right call anytime, really. Very quick flags all game against Goliad for calls I couldn't even see. No calls against Yoakum except very obvious ones. I just don't think the venue was a "neutral" site.
