District Preview: Overview
Columbia could likely make another deep postseason run. If they stumble Sweeny will gladly take the title back. Needville will look to make a few heads turn again, but will need to rebuild on the defensive side of the ball.
Columbia Head Coach: Leland Surovik Returning Starters O/D 5/8
After a great run that included the district championship and finished in the State Semi's the Roughneck's expect nothing less this season. They will have to replace the very athletic QB Daymond Lewis and replace some of their OL. Look's like Willis Johnson will get the honor of leading the Neck's potent attack. However the cupboard is still stocked with talent. The District's leading rusher Floyd Bess (1,300yds and 10 TD's) is joined in the backfield with FB Broderick Thomas and RB Sean Flannel with Treylon Johnican at WR. All District and All County DE Bradley Swanks (75 Tackles) will lead a defense that returns 8 starters.
Needville Head Coach: Jamie Valentine Returning Starters O/D 6/2
BlueJay QB Terry Matlock returns to lead the offense after an injury in 2010. Protecting Matlock will be the massive OT Blake Herman (6-8 295).
Palacios Head Coach: Mike Treybig Returning Starters O/D 6/9
QB Anthony Garcia (466 yds 3 TD's) is the district's leading passer. WR/FS Dustin Tedder (3 INT's) will be a game changer for the Shark's. He will be joined by OL/DT Dai Pham (64 Tackles) on defense.
Sweeny Head Coach: Brett Sawyer Returning Starters O/D 4/7
Sweeny has some holes to fill on offense (QB, WR, OL), but Coach Sawyer feels they will be fine. RB Craig Bell (943 yds 7 TD's), WR/DB Gary Woodard (256 yds 4 TD's) (106 Tackles) also doubled at RB. DE Adrian McBride (42 Tackles 5 Sacks) and LB Joel Higgins return to what could be a very strong defense with 7 returning starters.
Wharton Head Coach: Brad Wright Returning Starters O/D 4/5
QB Andrew Cruz (609 yds 10 TD's rushing; 465 yds 3 TD's passing is a dual threat. WR Demetrius Peacock (49 catches 240 yds 2 TD's) is his favorite target. DB Jamal Gillis (46 Tackles) heads up the defense.
