I think, they have to be played some time this weekend (UIL deadlines). You may want to check the UIL web site (www.uil.utexas.edu) for updates, sometimes they have game info.

I would like to give one more shout out to the Sinton Pirate baseball team. I would like to say good luck in your best-of-three series against PI. Don't know much about them except that they have made it this far. So that alone say's enough to me about this PI team. I will not be able to attend any of the games but in my heart I will be there. Win or lose I will still be proud of you guy's. It has taken a lot of heart to get you guy's this far, so don't let up. I know I will love to see you guy's back here in Austin playing for your "Fourth State Title". You have played with a lot of class these past few years(not saying that they have never played that way), but it has shown more, too me, this past couple of years. Best of luck to both teams. May God watch with a helpful hand to make sure everyone makes it out and comes back safe.
Go Pirates!!!!
Bring home another Title, to show all those who dout you guy's in Corpus(not saying any names), that Champs are made in Sinton.

PI’s Moore overcomes illness to lead Tarpons

By M.E. Benavides
The Brownsville Herald

The term ‘easy’ is foreign in the Tarpons’ vocabulary.

After clinching their sixth consecutive trip to the postseason, the Tarpon’s were hit hard with the news that shortstop Dante Delgadillo would not be able to continue the season after the senior captain was diagnosed with a blood clot in his right arm.

Despite the distressing circumstances, Port Isabel swept its first round playoff series with Devine.

“It’s been tough,” said Port Isabel head coach Robert Holland. “This is just a game and other things are much more important than a baseball game.

“In life, nothing comes without sacrifices. We just try to go out there and do our best and have fun.”

If ever there was a poster boy for what the Tarpons’ ball club is going through, it is third baseman Holsen Moore.

During last year’s playoff run, the then junior started loosing a large amount of weight and fatiguing with every practice and game.

“During a band competition I felt very tired and got taken to the doctor,” Moore said. “Once there they found scarring of the tissue on my kidneys. This isn’t something common in my family. If anything heart disease is common, but not kidney.”

The affliction escalated to the point that Moore lost close to 60 pounds in a very short period of time.

Asked to lessen his activities, Moore was forced to step away from baseball.

“The doctor told me I couldn’t do any athletic activity,” Moore said. “After about month, I started bugging my doctor to let me back out there. Finally after about two months, the doctor let me play.”

Once back, Moore struggled to return to full form. The significant weight loss affected his play.

“It was clear he wasn’t himself,” Holland said. “He came back weaker and his numbers went down. But he fought hard, showed up and played.”

Behind a regimen of medicine, regular blood work, exercise and monthly doctor visits Moore returned this season ready to help the Tarpons get back into the postseason.

Hitting close to .500, the senior’s contribution to the Tarpons’ offense is apparent.

“It feels good to get back to the playoffs,” Moore said. “It was something I was looking forward to since last year.”

Moore also had to adjust to a new position. After playing second base since his freshman year, Moore was asked to switch to the ‘hot corner’ midway through the season.

“I asked him to move over and help us at third,” Holland said. “He was all for the move if it helped the team. Once there, he never missed a beat. Once we made the switch, all the players involved have done excellent.”

The Tarpons’ road through the postseason continues with a second round three-game series with defending Class 3A state champion Sinton starting Friday in Kingsville.

Despite the daunting task, Moore has a basic outlook on the daunting task before the Tarpons.

“It’s just another team,” the senior said. “It’s a simple game and the team that goes out there and plays the hardest will win.”

Good advice from someone that is already winning the game of life – one inning, one game and one season at a time.

Were you expecting him to show up in blue tights and a red cape? Even Nolan Ryan had bad nights occasionally. From what I've heard, he had an average night in that game. Sounds like the Sinton bats didn't come through on Friday like they did on Saturday. You gotta give the kid his due simply because he was able to keep his unbeaten streak alive. Right? And, by the way, the Corpus paper says he drove in 3 of their 4 runs that night(and scored the other one). Sounds like he almost single-handedly won that game. See: http://www.caller.com/ccct/high_school_sports/article/0,1641,CCCT_821_1969006,00.html

The fact that he didn't strike you out puts you in the category of batters that have managed a combined .140 average against him. Not too shabby is it? wink

Everyone on here gives their 2 cents, so here's mine ....Going into the Yoakum series, all we heard was how fast and amazing their pitcher was, it had us worried for sure. Then we start playing and sure, he was good, but not un-hittable. I mean I was expecting each inning to be "3 up and 3 down", but that didn't happen at all! I'm just saying that pre-game hype isn't always accurate. And,after playing the 2nd game, they really didn't have another pitcher to worry about. We scored 6 runs, first bat up! Besides one player,no matter what position cannot win the game alone!

No high school pitcher is unhittable, and anyone that expects one to be is sure to be disappointed. In fact I don't know of any pitcher at any level that would fit that description. Even Adrian Alaniz is not unhittable, but in his case, the key consideration is you have to make those hits count when you get them, because there won't be a whole lot of them.

True. Well, Bandera has several good pitchers, who can stand with the best, so if and when we meet,it should be a good game. How is Sinton's hitting? We have alot of good hitters, that's probably what we are known best for.

Sinton's top five are hitting above .400. They have 2 of those above .500. If you want, go to the district website and check the stats. www.sintonisd.net (http://www.sintonisd.net) Click on the High School and then on 2003 Baseball Stats in the left column. Do you guys have stats you can share?

Sorry, I don't know for sure, let me see if I can get some stats and I'll get back to you. Sounds like our two teams would be a good match up!

Sinton, found out some hard facts...and you can call the San Antonio Express News to back it up.....we lead in hitting,as a team, over ALL teams in SA, including 4A and 5A teams..We have at least 7 hitting over .400, most over .500..Josh Faglie was leading city wide with stats of over .600! One game we hit 7 homers, another 6. Check us out in the Texas High School Baseball Mag...Against Yoakum, our smallest batter hit a homer...Although we didn't really do our best hitting against Yoakum...when we do..
WATCH OUT!! :D

Yes and we are faster then a speeding bullet (except for Josh ) , and can leap tall buildings with a single bound. Most eat calf fries for breakfast, after harvesting them, and we definetely have the most kids with common last names that no one can pronounce.

Grrrrrrr.......

LOL...ok Sinton66  ....SUPERMAN?.LOL..I wouldnt even consider him a Wonderwoman.......all i was saying is that his pitching wasnt as fast as I thought it would be...but i guess you take it as an insult or something...whatever..and i DID give him his due as you put it,but i dont know maybe you couldnt read the post or something......well we didnt do to bad considering that were a "valley team" as one of your players put it...but well be back...we have alot of players returning...im just hoping that one of our pitchers that was dormant this whole year becomes more acccurate......because this yr. he was a sophmore throwing mid 80's he shoud be ready for next yr. though.....anyways GOOD LUCK TO YALL IN THE REST OF YOUR SEASON !!!!!

Tarpon2004, I'm not insulted, just trying to educate you a little. You know, throwing heat isn't the only way to play this game. If you're up against a good hitting team, in fact it might be the worst thing you could do. wink Alaniz can throw some heat, but it's not his money pitch.

Man you people get everything soooo confuuuseeed  ......I NEVER said that Alaniz wasn't impressive.....I know that in order for a pitcher to be successful he needs to have a variety of pitches...I hand it to Alaniz that he's a hell of a pitcher wink ...and I KNOW that HEAT isn't the only way to win games but I never said it was.....ALL I was saying these past couple of posts was that his fastball wasnt as fast I THOUGHT it was going to be......like I thought when he would throw it, it would be like a blurr or something....lol....and when I found out he was averaging 92 mph against us I was surprised that I could see the ball all the way to the mitt........."Tarpon2004 u can get ready for next season knowing theres nobody that can strike u out after u faced somebody that wasnt so impressive".....LOL RIIIIGHT I have had my share of strike-outs this season......AND ONCE AGAIN......I never said he wasn't impressive  ........all I simply said was that his fastball wasn't as impressive as I THOUGHT it would be.........so I guess what im trying to say is that 90mph pitching isn't that bad.....try to understand that down here in the "valley" we dont see 90mph pitching and when u hear hype about someone throwing in the 90's it kinda gets to you..........and for some reason alot of you guys thought I was saying that Adrian sucked as a pitcher...but what I WAS REALLY saying was that his "HEAT" wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.............okay there........LOL....now that im done writing my BOOK ...lol...I am gonna head out........and for the LAST TIME GOOD LUCK PIRATES!!!!!!!!!!!!...lol.............. :p

Ok,Ok, hey we gotta razz you a bit, don't we? I remember when the Rangers acquired Bert Blyleven back in the 70's. This is the only pitcher I have ever seen that could consistently throw the fastball at 108 mph. He lost most of the games he pitched for the Rangers by one run (1-0,2-1, etc.). The problem was that whenever a good fastball hitter would make solid contact, it went right out of the park. I actually felt sorry for the guy, he could really pitch that fastball.
As far as a rematch next year, it won't be the same Sinton team. We will graduate at least seven starters this year. But thanks for the kind thoughts and well wishes. Good luck to you guys next year! wink

P.S- I wouldnt mind a Sinton vs Port Isabel football game.........I would be interested to see which side would have the most fans..........peace!
