Even though Texas got eliminated last night in the baseball college world series by Rice help is on the way! His name is Adrian Alaniz from Sinton and he is great. He is a great pitcher and never recorded a loss as a pitcher. He will help Texas with their pitching when he is needed next year. He can also play shortstop or first base and probably even second base and third base if need. He is also an outstanding batter and hit several home runs and doubles and triples during the year. I have seen him in town and he is already wearing his Longhorn Orange and will be coming to Austin soon. Texas may have lost to Rice but with him coming Texas has got to be smiling.

Hell, I was pullin' for Rice. I was especially pleased when the main reason I don't like'em(that thug playing 2nd base) cost'em the game. He should have been removed from the team a year ago. I have zero respect for the UT baseball coach.

Hey Jacket I hope Rice can win it all this year now. They should because they have everything working for them. I don't know if Texas is losing any players to the MLB but if they get most of them back and with Adrian coming get ready to be unpleased a lot next year because the Texas Longhorns will make another run.

Jacket...every college program has its problem children.....none are oblivious to it. From the way I understand it...the victim hit the "thugs" g/f...I don't know about you....but at that point I'm kickin' someones a&# also.
Phil C....whats the story on Alaniz??? I know he's a very good HS pitcher but did I miss him getting drafted? I'm thinking that no team took a shot at him even in the middle rounds...that I don't understand!!
And lastly Congrats to Rice...they have a great ballclub and I hope they bring the trophy back to Texas. Horns...great season...thanks for making it such a fun one!!!!!

Rholl he didn't get drafted which was a surprise to everyone because several teams were interested. I don't know what happen but it is to Texas benefit. I have a feeling a lot of teams are going to be kicking themselves in the future for not drafting him. In the meantime Texas should be smiling.

Phil..that is a UT benefit.....I'm hoping Frank Anderson stays at UT as pitching coach instead of leaving for one of the numerous HC positions for which he is a candidate. Still can't belive not one single team even took a chance with say a 40th round pick...thanks for verifying the thought that he didn't get drafted!

[QB]It was two-on-one. So, why was his accomplice involved? Besides, if that was the case, it wouldn't still be pending a year later. Either way, he should have been at least suspended, but the UT coach didn't have the guts to do it. Not much different from the situation at Vernon last season when Coach Portwood's 2000+ yard rusher was sent to an alternative school. Team policy was that he would be removed from the program, and he was. That coach will forever have my respect.

The case is still pending because there were two people involved?

If he was the ONLY ONE involved it would still be pending...

The law doesn't care whether or not you're defending a person who cannot defend themselves and it doesn't care how many people you use... If you wanna defend that person, pick them up and carry them away from the confrontation... Atleast that's what the law expects you to do... Self-defense only covers one's SELF, and you have to have no route of escape (cornered) before you can fight back, and if the cornered person is unable to defend themselves and you react, you're not covered by self-defense and there is no such thing as defense for another person... So either way this case would still be pending... The law is just screwed up that way...

Yet, if his girlfriend was cornered and he didn't react, and the way she got out was to shoot the attacker and kill him, she has a chance of pretty much getting away free... Now, if she was 300 pounds and 7 foot tall and the attacker was a 70 year old midget, she'd be in tha slammer...

If my girlfriend was hit by someone I'd lay into that person and would pay the least bit of attention to who else was jumping in with me... I'm not a thug, I just don't think you should hit a woman, and if it happened to someone else's girlfriend and they jumped in, I'd jump in with them...

Whatever the reason was, he and another man waited in a dark apartment parking lot for the victim. When he came into the parking lot, Moss and his accomplice jumped him. Doesnt sound like he was defending his girlfriend to me. And if by chance he was, it sure was a cowardly way to do it.

Maybe it wasn't right for him to have an accomplice... I can see your arguement there... But if I had to wait in a dark apartment parking lot to do it, I'd atleast confront him verbally if not physically, and I cannot say that I wouldn't physically confront him, I've never had anyone hit my girlfriend...

RHOLL I also forgot to mention another good thing about Adrian Alaniz is that he is an outstanding student and made the honor roll at graduation.

Sigh,

Phil I guess I am going to have to correct your spelling in order to get off of the girlfriend incident.

Did you mean despair? :D

By the way, I am sure Adrian will do well in Austin.

J2KThat's bull. There is no cowardly way to stick up for a woman. Period. I've beat the hell outta one of my BEST friends after finding out that he beat up his girlfriend and then beat the hell outta one of my other good buddies because he just sat back and watched. There is absolutely no room for that crap and I'm glad that "thug" of a second baseman had the respect to do something about it. Damn this world's way too politcally correct. I wish it was still like the old days when five huge guys would drag some ol' boy out back and teach him a lesson about hitting women.

P.S. I'm off my soapbox now and PPHS, congrats on your 1100th post. By the way, Adrian throws mid-90's and has some nasty stuff. He will be an awesome player at the college level.

You are absolutely correct on my spelling PPHS. I saw it too late after I had posted it.

Well, this is the first Ive heard about his g/f being involved. I just heard that someone pissed him off so he and a buddy waited for him in the parking lot and jumped him from behind.

I would love to see Adrian pitch for UT, but I think Adrian would do well at 3rd base (but I'm not the coach wink ) not to mention his ability to get the ball into play. Like I said before, I just want to see him play for UT.

Not saying Houston didn't do a good job, because he stepped in when they needed him. But they (the media) seem to think the coaches would rather just keep him "safe" in the dugout for pitching.

But firsts thing first---football season (specifically, high school) is SLOWLY approaching. :D Can't wait to see what this group of kids can put together.

I heard several people say that the pro scouts were looking for lefties this year, and that's why Alaniz didn't get an offer.

Adrian probably will not start as a pitcher his freshman year at UT. I would imagine one has to earn their way into the starting rotation. If they pitch him at all, it will most likely be as a mid-range reliever. I'm sure the pitching coach wants a chance to work with him a little before throwing him to the wolves.

He is indeed an outstanding shortstop also, and is talented enough to play anywhere else on the infield. They might stick him in the infield somewhere his first year just to take advantage of his big bat.

You know, 66, that kid has awesome range and with his arm strength I wouldn't be suprised at all to see him at SS or (as pirate4state mentioned) third. But I think he might be more of a defensive specialist to start off with. He's got a great bat, but those first-year college players typically have problems with adjusting to the level of pitching and watching the ball. I wouldn't put it past the kid to break out as a freshman, but give him two years and he'll be an absolute stud.

Yea, it's a big step up, but if anyone can do it, it would be Adrian. I think he will be a tremendous asset for Texas over the next four years. We've watched this kid grow through his high school years, and he has been pretty darn successful at everything he tries. I really love Texas baseball, and I'm very proud he will be a part of it.
