Padding stats for scholarship hopefuls?

Wouldn't it help college scholarship hopefuls to pad their stats in blowout games? I understand that coaches don't want to run up the score in games, but from another perspective, maybe they should. It could only help skill players to have gaudy stats. I know colleges look for size, speed, technique, attitude, grades, etc....but stats have to be one of the top attractions. Especially if a coach is not proactive about putting his player's names out there. I wonder how many would look at a RB with 1500 yards, compared to a RB with 2500 yards? Or a WR/TE with 400 yards, compared to 600-900 yards? How much does a coach even think about trying to help his scholarship hopefuls?

I don't believe that it would help all that much anyways. From what I've seen, your play in the game is only a slim part of what gets players recruited by D1 schools. The summer camps that they go to is what gets them recruited.
